Just came off nearly a month of Suprax - was not feeling better so dr prescribed a course of flagyl 500mg 2 x day with the intent of opening cysts to do more blood testing in 10 days.

2 doses into it and I feel horrible - all my joints are aching and I have terrible stomach pains and my eyes feel so tired.

Does this mean something is working? Do I tough it out? Are these normal side effects? I was thinking of cutting the dose in half.

Those are all the same questions we all have as we start something new. It sounds like a herx to me.

You have to decide what you can handle. I'm not very good at handling herxes, so many times I've backed off the dose until I can tolerate it.

Make sure you are detoxing the best you can.

I would let your LLMD know to be safe and then he or she can advise you. It could be a herx but it could also be a negative reaction to this drug - or even a virus.

I am taking IV flagyl, but only twice a week and it actually seems to make me feel better but maybe if I took it every day, it would make me feel worse...

That is A LOT of flagyl to begin with. A LOT!!

Even a SLIVER of one flagyl pill can bring a man to his knees.

So... your choice!!!

Do keep in mind to be on the lookout for any type of nerve damage .. any unusual pain.

And stay FAR FAR AWAY from any alcohol ..even mouthwash.

--and yes, contact your doctor--

I was one of those brought to my knees by Flagyl, actually it was my butt because I couldn't walk for 10 days. Flagyl made my bugs come out in droves.

It essentially uncovered the Lyme. I made it 3.5 days on the same dosage you are taking, and then had to cease and desist.

I think it killed a lot of bugs because one month later, after the 3.5 days of Flagyl and then Doxy, Ceftin and Sulfa, I felt great. I am now (4 months later) leading a normal life: working full time, spinning and lifting at the Y, ridng my horse a few times a week, the frequency of the latter will increase with Spring!

Bottom line, I think Flagyl, even for just 3.5 days, is just what I needed to get the ball rolling in the right direction.

Thanks so much everyone. I just couldn't take it and I wasn't even doing full dose.

Of course now I don't know if bugs came out and made me feel bad in addition to the flagyl whacking me.

Battling on and off for 20 years. Confused as to where to turn next at this point. Really feel I have had enough of abx.
