I went to see my Lyme doc this week. He just took some regular bloodwork, CBC and so on, and everything is normal except now I have high platelets.

No too high, 449 with a cutoff of 400.

I gotta say Im feeling a lot better. I have symptoms that I can ignore now because my energy is better and I don't feel so overwhelmed by everything. Gotta say though I am totally burned out on worrying about Lyme.

Do high platelets mean anything? Or is it just one of those transient issues we all run into?

Until you talk with your LLMD next about any changes to your current support efforts, this explains what's most likely happening and is nothing to be concerned about since you already know infection is on board - though I would say yours are elevated more than "high" -- and if from anemia, there may be other markers to consider (and also evaluate Babesia / treatment as well as nutrient intake).

excerpt from Healthgrades website:

. . . high platelets occurs as a symptom of another disease or condition, such as anemia, infection . . . .

Right, that's about what I read too, thanks Keebler.

I thought it also had something to do with inflammation??

My platelets are getting higher. I think it's around 360? I found out recently that my ferritin is low.

Jordana - I just had the same thing happen.
CBC and CP normal except for elevated platelets.
Ref. range 150-379.
I'm usually in the 340's.
A month ago they were in the 430's.
I retested two weeks later - down to low 400's.

The only thing different - that might explain?? - months ago I started on the SLIT allergy drops - and also started doing BVT. Just a few stings a few times per week. For pain and possibly for Lyme - not sure if could ever make it to 10 stings.

I haven't been able to get in my mHBOT chamber because of my severe pain - oh the irony.

IIRC you had been doing BVT?

To mention: I did have one other thing elevated - oddly enough - Serum Magnesium. Can't figure that one out. Mostly I have been taking Mag.Ox. which is the least bio-available.

I stopped taking any kind of Mag. supplement - retested and its still elevated at 24.

Nuts.
And.........I feel horrible.

I've read inflammation but I just got a subscription to this dial a doc thing and asked some guy why I had high platets, He said since it was slightly elevated it was probably a response to somethng transient.

I said like an infection? He said no, anything, even stress. All my other numbers are normal and it's the first time it happened. so i guess it doesn't mean anything on its own.

susank I did do BVT but this in combination with mino and rifampin put me in the er twice in one weekend for a grand total of an uncovered 14,000 dollars.

[Smile] . Funny enough my platelets were normal.

Serum magnesium is a funny one. It measures free mag in the blood, not in the cells, so you really don't know how much your cells are absorbing. One possibility is that they're rejecting the mag or there's some kind of problem with atp production in your mitochondria.

This falls under that vague science stuff we read about on the internet that no doctor has ever heard of.If you're interested you could google "mito cocktail" which has a bunch of stuff in that seems to help people with mitochondrial disease like b2 and thiamin and ketoacids. All very interesting; can't really hurt if you're inclined to try.
