I have a high pitched buzz going on in my ear, and it itches. Now the other ear feels dull. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there something homeopathic I can take?

When ever I have ear ringing, heart throb sounds, or aching deep in the ear canal....

I use peppermint essential oil and rub it down the lymph node below the ear into the neck and all around the ear on the outside. Within an hour, it works wonders for me.

Sorry to hear this...my tinnitus is bad too, but not as bad as what you are describing. Keep us posted.

BTW I'm ramping up on my babs/protozoan protocol. Buckle your seatbelt.

Stop all Rx, and all OTC stuff, too - until you can determine if any are ototoxic.

If you have a LL doctor, I assume you've already called them for advice.

Be sure to have good stable liver & kidney support, though that's no guarantee. No "event" based detox, though, for reasons in the Liver links.

Be sure any peppermint or other essential oil is diluted in a CARRIER oil as, otherwise, it could really burn your skin.

Gently rubbing lymph may be of help but also do the full body lymph self massage.

Watch your posture, too. Might there be some kind of nerve impingement from neck, etc. that is also to be considered.

There may be some specific homeopathics to take but peppermint oil will cancel out any homeopathic.

Still, this is a medical emergency and should be addressed as such. Though, many regular MDs won't know what to do, see if your LLMD thinks you should contact TODAY a hearing specialist.

If no LL doctor, find the best neurotologist in your area and ask to talk with their nurse so you might further assess the next step.

Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen treatments, mHBOT have been of help in restoring sudden hearing loss.

I tend to take words at their meanings so when I read you "can't hear" I'm thinking that very thing.

It's hard to tell if there is actual deafness or the tinnitus is just so loud you cannot hear. Either way, it's a major warning sign to address as an emergency.

Be careful if an ear doctor suggests steroids, of course, as they are wont to do.

Avoid acetaminophen as well as ibuprofen or aspirin. All 3 are ototoxic can cause hearing loss for some, under certain circumstances.

yet do include anti-inflammatory with liver support. Turmeric, Pycnolognel (sp?) are good choices.

some liver support is also anti-inflame. that but not all. Milk Thistle / Dandelion top liver supports.

Olive Leaf Extract may be good as it has many properties and may also help tame some kinds of infections while providing anti-inflame. support. But most are not all that good. SEAGATE is one good source or find one that uses their same good principles.

Take care.

Oh, and avoid all in the ear buds and even music headphones.

Wear ear plugs even with a hair dryer and the special dB rated muffs for anything louder. Even a blender.

Avoid ALL athletic events or concerts. Soft music can be helpful, though.

Do not shout or talk loud. Be mindful of this if you cannot hear as you could cause damage by a loud voice to very tender tissue right now.

such high tinnitus can also be a very clear sign that something serious yet This could get better, I hope, with a multi-prong approach.

While I mentioned it's best to avoid steroids, it may not be that easy.

Sudden deafness may - or may not - reverse. It's vital to pull out all the stops, so to speak if permanent deafness can be prevented.

STeroids can be a double edged sword, though. And I do think some other anti-inflammatories might serve better with less risk.

MAGNESIUM just came to mind, too. Perhaps a shot or even an IV DRIP - not a push.

STill, if you have a LL doctor, ask them for their advice and - maybe - maybe - steroids might be considered short term WITH appropriate protection regarding the "blooming" of lyme or other infection .

I just don't have the energy or the hand endurance to continue, though while you wait for your LL doctor or ear specialists office to return any message I hope you left,

the next step would be to cross search magn. regarding

"sudden deafness"

because it might be of great help to the nerve fibers as well as anti-inflame.

Keeblers onto something about circulation...

I had ear problems too... esp sensitive hearing. Mine improved with six grams of arginine, 30 mg of vinpocetine and 400 mg of magnesium daily!

btw, I am also on a heavy antiprotozoal/babesia protocol too though.

I don't think about diluting essential oils because I've never applied an oil except neat.

That's my skin and my body that loves all oils, full force.

Some have sensitive skin and do need to apply with another oil, such as olive, coconut oil or another carrier oil.

The only treatment that ever had an effect on my tinnitus was using a PEMF machine, 400-700 gauss strength -

I held a coil while the machine clicked magnetic pulses. At first I only tolerated 10 seconds, then grew to tolerating an hour of it.

My tinnitus would quiet completely for around 6 hours. A top Lyme doctor said it probably quieted down the nerves to the ears.

Wow thanks Keebler! I thought about going to the doctor but docs are just so darn clueless. I bought some peppermint oil today and it helped open up my ear a bit. Pain came back later so I had some reiki. It really helped with pain but the buzz is still there.

I have a Sota magnetic pulser but I don't know if I can use it on my head. Robin, what kind of PEMF machine did you use?

Keebler, I'm off to the store tomorrow to get some of your recommendations, thank you.

Thanks bcb! Hang in there.

Thanks Fozy lady!

Thanks Pam, I will keep trying the peppermint and far away from homeopathics (thanks Keebler).

Keebler, you were so right (ototoxic)! I ordered the book but it's not in yet. Do you know if glutamine or colloidial silver are ototoxic? What about nac? I have to go shopping.

Please do not take glutamine as a supplement. It can destroy nerve tissue. It is toxic to the nerve tissue in many with neurological illnesses.

I have the 2nd (not 3rd) ed. of the Ototoxic book and will look later - can't now. Still, there are very real reasons to avoid any supplementation of glutamine.

link will come in a little while to explain why it certainly can be ototoxic for reasons that are different than the scope of other ototoxic substances.

colloidial silver - that's not going to be as clear but silver can collect in the body and it harder to eliminate, some who have studied this say although it's not in the same class as mercury, a very toxic heavy metal you still just don't want to accumulate a ton of this stuff.

It's action is generally safe, though, it's the accumulation over time that is a matter to study.

Still, SOME silver is very helpful and colloidial silver can be very helpful against a range of infections and many with lyme / other chronic stealth infections have done rather well with it as part of a plan at times.

If you take colloidial silver start very slow and low, as with anything and just don't go overboard. Let it sit in your mouth for a little while and be certain it's a reputable brand as the exact kind of water it's made from is extremely important.

I do not think it has the capacity to restore ear nerves that might be damaged due to ototoxic chemicals or noise, though.

back later.

How GLUTAMINE, L-Glutamine / Glutamic Acid can destroy nerve fibers:

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/1/113775?#000000

Topic: Amino Acid Information Link

See post: Caution: Aspartate; Glutamine; and Phenylalanine (3 excitatory amino acids that can be wrong for us when added as supplements, beyond a normal dietary level)

Seaweed has its own natural MSG (monosodium glutamate) and can be very excitatory

NAC, I do not know all about that yet it's an important liver support and generally helpful for the body to help metabolize waste. It may help prevent ototoxicity but nothing is a sure bet.

Some people don't do well with it, though. Milk Thistle &/ or Dandelion would have a broader range of liver support, though.

I don't have the energy to search out NAC as to why some don't do well with it and other do just great, though if you take it, go slow and low as it can be a bit rough to start off.

And if it works for you after some time, that usually is a sign you are one of the people for whom it can benefit.

It's best to contact a LL ND regarding that question.

You have not said if your hearing has returned, so I'm assuming it has not.

You do say now that "the buzz is still there"

That tinnitus is a sign of ear nerve / brain auditory nerve damage.

You really do need to see an ear specialist ASAP, call Monday a.m. Find a NEUROTOLOGIST, that's an ear expert with extra neuro training.

They have tests to determine what is going on with your ear nerves. You could still be in the window of recovery though with each day, each hour, that window tightens up.

mHBOT has been successful in some cases of sudden hearing loss. There may be other methods but you really need to see a medical expert if you truly "can't hear" .

If I take that term too literally (how else would one?) well, if you mean that the tinnitus is just so loud as to make it hard to hear, that is still in the danger zone as tinnitus is the number one alarm system.

NOISE? Were you around sudden or sustained noise recently? In your PAST? it could be that it just caught up.

Still, an ear expert can assess the physical structure / function and help determine the scene better.

I'm glad you ordered the Ototoxic book for there is detail in that that is just not found on the web.

Yet, IF you are in a window of opportunity for mHBOT or some other treatment that might help reverse hearing loss at this point in time, time is of the essence to get a proper assessment with an expert.

L-GLUTATHINE might be something to consider, even as an IV it has some real help for ototoxic situataions and with support for ear nerves.

Actual nerve damage is hard to reverse, of course, yet in some cases when attended to soon enough, there have been cases of reversal of hearing loss [as there are so many variables].

Stopping any and all substances that may be ototoxic is one thing, [yet if you have a life saving Rx, of course check with your experts on that first], and resting at a 30 degree angle is vital, avoiding noise

and attending to adrenal support as well as that can be so very connected to ear damage from high cortisol that zooms up with stress and weak adrenal function . . .

but there may be other methods that might need to be employed, too.

I simply cannot urge you strongly enough to find a specialist who knows all about ear / auditory brain nerve structure and physiology.

L-GLUTATHIONE is not to be confused with glutamine, though, very different.

MILK THISTLE helps the body make glutathione.

Acetaminophen BLOCKS glutathione in all cells, so that's very important to avoid.

Just looked in my 2nd ed. Ototoxic Drug book. I do not see Glutamine listed there. As a component of food, an actual amino acid, it's not toxic in and of itself.

In my thread on this topic, see the articles that explain how - in certain people with neurological issues to do with myelin sheath around nerves, how in THOSE people, it most certain can be toxic and damage nerve fibers, though.

Please do not take any supplement of glutamine, L-Glutamine or glutamic acid. You might also consider lowering the amount if foods you consume are high in that. Food lists in the links set.

You do need some, but too much can be toxic.

NAC, you asked about that. My file notes' only entry is scrambled [when I switched computers, many of my files just went all undecipherable]. My headline to that is:

"NAC, why GiGi and Dr. K say NO to NAC"

that does remind me that there is some reason to avoid it. Still, other liver supports will work quiet well in its place.

you can scout the archives, too.

NAC is N-acetyl cysteine

http://www.betterhealthguy.com/klinghardt-2016

Dr. K. Conference Notes - compiled by Scott F.

12 July 2016

nearly 2/3 of the way down:

. . . NAC should generally be used only for short periods of time. You can destroy biofilms in the gut and acquire leaky gut from it. It breaks down biofilms, but also impacts the gut as well. High does of NAC are not a good option generally. . . .

Could be because some people have the CBS gene mutation?

"Supplements high in sulfur/thiol groups

ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid or Thioctic Acid). Obviously this needs to be used for chelation purposes at some point, whether you are sulfur intolerant or not,

but it MUST always be used properly, and according to its half-life, as described in Andy Cutler’s oral chelation protocol.

If you are sulfur-sensitive, you may only tolerate small amounts of ALA, so start low just in case. This is not always true, but worth remembering.

Also, do not take ALA during your sulfur exclusion trial.
bromelain and papain (use enzymes derived from animals)
chlorella,
cysteine
dairy source acidophilus,
DMSO,
extracts of the high sulphur foods,
glutathione,
NAC,
MSM,
Methionine (converts down into cysteine)

Turmeric is really good at raising thiol levels." [Frown]

I just saw this thread, Catgirl. I am so sorry you are suffering with hearing loss and increased tinnitus. It is so distressing when this happens.

I have single sided deafness and when I lost my hearing, my tinnitus was off the charts - just horrible. It also put me in fight or flight mode. I think my limbic system was all messed up and this caused the tinnitus to worsen.

I have discovered an essential oil that is very good for hearing and vestibular nerves. For some it has actually brought back hearing. For many it has decreased the buzzing.

It is helichrysum italicum. I purchased some through Amazon and it is hard to know for sure that this is what helped me or whether it is my other antibiotic treatment, but my tinnitus is noticeably getting better. I still have some bad days in between, but there is definitely some improvement.

https://healingthedizzies.wordpress.com/2015/06/13/helichrysum-essential-oil-for-hearing-loss-tinnitus-and-ear-healing/

I rub a drop behind and below my ear at bedtime and also there is an area on the bottom of my foot behind the two smaller toes to put a dab that will affect hearing nerves. I hope you get some relief.

I have tinnitus of my right ear and swelling around that ear. Dr. Axe said he had people drop tea tree oil directly into the ear which I do. I also rub a diluted oregano oil, diluted with vegetable oil, around that ear.

You have to be sure your essential oil is not too hot and that is why I dilute my oregano oil. It helps quite a bit.
