Hey friends,

I could really use your good wishes, kind thoughts, and prayers right now.

I've been in the hospital for Acute Pancreatitis since Thursday (3rd time in two years...).

The pain woke me up Thursday morning at 3am but I didn't want to admit that that was what was going on. So only broke down & went to hospital at noon when in absolute dire agony.

So plan is simply to keep hydrated for now with IV & try to keep pain tolerable. Should get better over next couple days.

We are unsure why I keep getting the Pancreatitis. Hopefully we will figure that out soon.

5 days before Pancreatitis, started having fevers, felt sicker in general, had aversion to food, & when did eat felt much sicker.

Thanks for caring...

This is such a complex disease. It's very hard. I hope you'll be able to figure out what's going on soon.

We don't know each other personally, but I am wishing you strength, courage and hope, from the other side of the world.

Keep fighting, Sammy.

Pain is the absolute worst.

When admitted, was diagnosed with uncomplicated Acute pancreatitis. If so, my symptoms would have begun to subside.

The docs are now concerned that it is actually complicated Acute pancreatitis. This can cause very serious complications.

Tomorrow they will begin to run a battery of tests to find any possible complications. So will you all please think of me?

We were supposed to start testing today but had to hold everything when my Peripheral IV lines failed repeatedly. Tomorrow the "PICC team" will use ultrasound (+experience) to attempt placement of an "extended dwell line". Please pray, cross fingers, etc...

Thanks friends!

Oh, no, sammy!! I am so sorry to hear this! You have been through so much; you most certainly don't deserve this.

I'll have to look up what "complicated Acute Pancreatitits" means. Obviously, NOT good!

And now your port lines not working?? Arghhh! Did they try CathFlo? I'm sure that they, or you, would think of that, if that were appropriate.

Extended dwell line? Again not sure what that means, more research.

Oh, sammy, I will be praying for you for them to find the cause of both problems and to be able to help you quickly and well.

Are they giving you good pain control?

May God cradle you with grace and love and protection.

PS I hope that you are in the best hospital available! Are you? If you have any doubts, can you be transferred to the best one available, ie, a teaching hospital with a really good reputation?

Thank you all so very much for your kind thoughts & prayers. Your friendships mean so much to me.

I'm having a very difficult time expressing myself here so please bear with me.

Things have been so nightmarishly difficult for me over these past couple years that it became obvious to me that I should no longer post directly about myself. My life, my health, & my experiences are not typical so could easily promote undue fears/ anxiety.

Yes, I have Lyme. But the picture of my health does not primarily revolve around Lyme. It's far more complex.

So about this rare topic, we aren't sure why I've been getting acute pancreatitis. This is the 3rd time in about 15months. Causes have been extensively investigated with no lead.

While inpatient, I was under the care of a well respected university hospital. The GI team had immediate access to all other important specialists records. They also consulted regularly with my own GI specialist.

So I had excellent care. Even though I'd suffered complications, I was happy when they finally discussed discharge.

Despite my best efforts, I haven't been able to meet my daily nutrition/ hydration goals. I'm unable to control the severe pancreas pain & nausea.

The clock is ticking though, no time to be sick. My life is ruled by other more important variables...

Dear sammy, I am so relieved to hear from you. However, it sounds terrible that you are still in so much pain and nausea and that you can't meet your nutritional and hydration needs!!

It sounds like you need TPN, much as no one wants to have to do that. Please, please in spite of the other intense issues going on, don't neglect your own health. I know you may think that you have to, but this is life and death for you.

Did your port start working again? Or did they replace it? I don't know if TPN is done through a port or not.

I'm sending love and prayers to you and your mom.

I'm so sorry you're not past this yet. I always read your post as my Dad has had several attacks of pancreatitis, the last one 3 months ago. He has lyme (which he refuses to treat) and doctors can't figure out the cause of his attacks either.

Thank you for sharing even in the midst of this storm. You matter to so many here. You're in my prayers.
