My 5 year old son has stacked 3 antibiotics starting in June. He tested positive for babesia, bartonella and erhlichia. LLMD wants us to add Bactrim so he will be taking a total of 4 antibiotics a day. Has anyone stacked this many? From the research I have done, Bactrim has so many side effects.

Yikes.... I do hope you have him on tons of probiotics taken several times a day at least 2 hours away from antibiotics.

So sorry! My 8 year old son is on month 10 of treatment for Babesia/Lyme/Bartonella (passed from mom at birth). He has to take 3 antibiotics+Mepron daily (was on IV also for the initial 4 months due to trouble with amox). He seems to be OK with just Florastor - when we added probiotics it actually caused stomach issues, believe it or not. Everyone is different, but kids I think in general are more resilient which is a good thing flighting these horrible infections.

Four sure seems like a lot for a little guy. I've done four, but I'm in my 30s. Bactrim has actually been great for me, no side effects whatsoever. Most other antibiotics give me at least minor side effects.

Go by gut feeling.
I would never do that to my child, but I guess, it's a decision you got to do yourself.
how is his gut condition?
Is he allergic?
Does he have any hyperactivity symptoms or the like ?
I took Bactrim without problem, but alone. It is in fact, one of the few antibiotics I don't feel THAT much pain.

He does have a lot of allergies and hyperactivity/irritability. Our LLMD said that 1 capsule of the prescript assist pro is enough probiotics. Do you all think I should give him more?
Also Bactrim says to stay out of the sun, has anyone had any adverse affects from being in the sun?

Personally I have totally ignored the sun warning and I've been fine. (: I love being in when sun. It's good to be cautious though, just in case it really is a problem for him.
I think I'd probably add at least sachromyces boulardii to the prescript assist.

I would do my own reading about microbiota and allergies. Allergies are connected to unhealthy GI flora, that can be caused by toxins or antibiotics.
Another thing to read: how many strains of probiotics are destroyed with ONE course of Ceftin, for example? A paper suggests: 1/3 of the species are destroyed, for long term.
That means about 200 probiotic strains are wiped out with one course of Ceftin. Some return, some will not return even long term.
So, giving certain probiotics can help (but not all).
Knowing that hyperactivity or ADHD syndrome is part of the autistic spectrum (but light), I would read what autistic children parents think.
They have experience with antibiotics, because autistic children have lower immune systems and suffer from several types of infections.
Autistic kids usually have several allergies too.
After reading that all, I would decide what to do, knowing what I'm risking and knowing what I'm betting (pros and cons).
I would go through herbs and energy treatments. That is what I did to my daughter. But we did try antibiotics in the beginning, and I did regret, that is why I'm writing you that.
It's a decision you should make on your own, though. I'm just writing my own thoughts and experience.
A last thing to google: 'long term damage of antibiotics' specially to young children. It's also important to know, in my opinion.
