I need some help. I haven't anyone to talk to and, heaven knows, I can't talk to husband. he's one of those "they're doctors and they know what's best. you don't know anything so do whatever they tell you and shut up."
I've had more bp issues the last few days. the cardio gave me metropolol. last night it was 213/104, before that 181, then 160. it's going crazy.
I was on nadolol 20 at night. because of shortness of breath and some chest pain, he switched me to metropolol and a water pill.
I called and said it was raising not lowering my bp and leg swelling, head and ear pain were almost unbearable.
so they call back and say oh stay on it only we're adding amlodipine, or norvasc. wth!!! they gave me that in the hopital and it was worse. dizziness, headache, sore throat. it didn't lower it a bit.
they said stay on these drugs until my appt for the angiogram on wednesday.
I told my husband I was concerned they were giving me drugs that were raising my bp to dangerous levels.
I know this cardio is supposed to be one of the best in dallas but, damn, I know my body and 213 is bloody well dangerous.
strokes and heart attacks run in my family so, of course, I'm scared witless.
also my sisters have tried both these drugs. same reactions, so its familial.
are they not listening to me??? I feel like screaming "you're going to freakin kill me and nobody gives a damn".
I'm not crazy, I'm not stupid.
but is there something wrong with this picture???

Have your sisters found any bp meds that work for them?
If so, call doc and ask for these meds. Tell doc that the side effects of current meds are unbearable. Tell him you have stopped the meds for this reason.
Call first thing in the morning. He will likely give you any bp med you request.
Is it all beta blockers that have these effects on you??

I believe one sister is on atenolol and I'm not sure about the other.
I told the nurse but she was adamant and just ignored me, kept repeating that I needed to take both drugs.
I'd been diovan and nadolol for at least 20 years.
my husband says "look, you're not going to die in two days. at least try to do what the doctors say".

So you ARE having an angiogram? Thank goodness because I was about to suggest you go ahead and ASK for one.
You may have a blocked artery.
I WOULD TAKE THE MEDS.

its a chemical angiogram. he does not believe in doing the more invasive vein angiogram unless its absolutely necessary.
I'm putting off walking until after all these tests. he's also going to do a full metabolic panel.

apparently they give you a drug through an iv. called a 64 spect scan nuclear angiogram. cost 1200 versus 12 thousand for the one done in a hospital where they run some kind of camera thingy up your groin vein.
because I failed the basic nuclear this is supposed to be far more detailed and much stronger. guess it can pass through the breast tissue easier too.

Oh .. I looked it up.. This is the one I thought was called a nuclear test. That's why I was confused when you said the stress test was a nuclear test.
This is the one where you have to put your arms over your head.

the nuclear stress test was also with hands over my head. also had to do the treadmill with the iv where they injected some stuff. then had ekg and back in machine.
I don't think this has the treadmill part. at this point, I'm going jus find out what the freakin problem is.
sure wish I had a dr kildare tho....lol

Hope they can find out, because that BP has to be taken care of.
Someone on FB tonight was telling another friend with high BP that he gets high BP from peanuts. He said it could be an allergic reaction to just about any food.

Have you tried atenolol? Or, as Lymetoo was asking, do you have trouble with all beta blockers?? If I were you, I would not want to stay on meds that were makig it worse! Do ask your sisters what they could tolerate.
Yes, as you know, something COULD happen in 2 days! Well, 1 1/2 days now, but still.
It does sound like, aside from the testing and getting the meds right, later, you need testing to see what foods you may be sensitive to. I know that's not the immediate concern. but . . . .

Atenolol was the first drug I was given .. about 17 years ago. Same as Inderal, randi.

I, too, have crazy blood pressure results. We've tested our cuff and it's accurate. My son started a diary to record it. The variance between high and low was up to 50 points. It was so low in am that I couldn't get up. I do have a left bundle blockage and family history so cardiologist advised that eventually he might need to install a pacemaker. I take, from my LLMD, Bystolic and Florinef to help regulate it. Drinking water with electrolytes helps.Salt tablets and Midodrine help raise it.Complete rest helps to lower it. I suggest interviewing various pharmacists and choosing one to help you. She can tell you what side effects it has, what meds interact with it, alternative choices, etc.Sometimes they know more than the doctors. Mine has served me well for 15 years.
