I drink water, lots of it. 95% of the time, I drink enough. I DO NOT like lemons or the taste of lemon, period.

However, with treating I make sure to drink lemon water about 4 times a week. On days where I don't drink lemon water, my urine is normal and clear (light yellow).

On days where I drink lemon water, my urine is MUCH darker. It only happens when I drink lemon water. On the days I drink the lemon water, I drink it for the whole day.

I only use 1-2 slices of the lemon for the whole day in all of my drinks, reusing the lemon as I pour more water.

Is this normal? Is this a good correlation or something to be concerned about. I know drinking lemon water is good for you, but not sure why it affects my urine.

Thanks for any thoughts!

Do you have Babesia? It can cause dark urine.

Dehydration can also cause it, but it definitely sounds like you are drinking enough.

Yes, I have Babesia. So maybe the art and other meds killing off the Babs...hopefully anyway! [Smile]

Thanks Sammi

I'm thinking you're probably processing a lot more through your kidneys when your urine is dark and that's probably a good thing. If it were dark all the time no matter what you did, I'd worry about a kidney infection, but when it's only happening with the lemon water, I'd guess it's clearing more toxins.

I read once, and it was an interesting point, that if you flushed your toilet and the water came out clear on the other side, that wouldn't be good because it meant all the waste was still in the toilet.

Likewise, when your urine is clear, that means you're holding onto the waste.

I thought it was a good point.

That is a great point and analogy. I was hoping that would be the case, but sometimes always want to check in case my thinking is off! [Smile]

Mrs Farmer, is it only lemon water doing that, or are you already following A. William's recommendations - meaning a lot of raw veggies and fruits?

My urine came almost as dark as Coke when I went first fasting, then started raw foods only. It was impressive.

For weeks on, non stop.

But as Sixgk says, if it gets dark all the time, you gotta watch out for kidney or bladder infections, as too many toxins - we all know - will probably cause pathogens to grow (because cells can't work properly)

It happened to me more than once, and to Sixgk too. The infection can be nasty (as most UTIs are).

I have the impression drinking pure water does not detoxify me.

I need what A. William suggests - I need 'special water': from fruits, plants, or teas, or squeezed lemon in water. Then my body goes detoxing.

But if I eat a lot of animal protein, fats, sh.. things (gluten, chocolate, etc) well, it blocks detox too.

I suspect that the body concentrates its energy into the liver + gut pathways, and not lymph + Kidney pathways...

The moment my liver is free - not many animal proteins, not much fat, clean food, lots of easily digestible veggies and fruits - my lymph starts moving LIKE HELL, and I get those dark urine episodes.

My whole skin shrinks, it may look scary even...

Coconut water causes me that too, if my liver is free as said above.

1-2 cups of coconut water make my skin shrink.

Eating a lot of celery too.

the moment I start eating lots of cooked foods or heavier foods, it's harder to see the direct relation between drinking 'good' water from smoothies + lemon water + coconut water to a direct lymph drainage-effect.

In my case, the moment my skin shrinks, I feel my joints detoxing, my nostrils detoxing, my brain, eyes, neck nerves, even my skin (on feet and hands, starts tingling)...

A nice feeling, usually, but it can come with bits of pain (at first, my joints and nerves, neck + back nerves went a bit painful).

Lately I noticed some smoothies clean the thyroid, and I will feel pricking sensations after certain foods or smoothies (like mango smoothie).

Maybe your lemon water is working better because your diet got lighter too (and the liver is not charged, and the lymph + kidney systems are allowed to work then?)

There may be variables not accounted for beside the lemon.

Dark urine can be a sign of porphryia. If so, fasting can be fatal. Seriously. Be sure to learn all you can about this:

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/1/91842?#000000"

what type of M.D. tests for PORPHYRIA? Includes detail about: HPU / KPU . . . .

Some links here are expired yet you can find the detail by searching with article titles / authors.

It is only with lemon water and I haven't changed my diet in any other way. So I haven't started following William's recommendations yet until I continue to read more.

I am slowly getting to the book when I can! [Smile]

I haven't had lemon water in the last two days (we have been on the road extensively with my son's travel baseball team), and nice light yellow...no darkness at all.

Even if I slack off and don't drink as much as I should and normally do during the day, there really isn't any change, just light urine.

I don't seem to have any of the symptoms listed for porphyria, at least as they describe it skin-wise. Many of the neuro issues are what I have related to lyme, so yet another thing that overlaps!

However, I do not fast anyway. I am far too skinny and have lost too much weight fighting this disease to skip any meals! [Smile]

https://health.clevelandclinic.org/2013/10/what-the-color-of-your-urine-says-about-you-infographic/

For example, my urine which is usually (see chart above) pale straw or transparent yellow, after drinking lemon water will get to the amber/honey stage. I have not put it out in the sun however...not much sun around here in the north this time of year! LOL!

**My apologies for the "too much information", but I do appreciate everyone's response! [Smile]
