I just started mephron and zith this week for babesia. I had a fever yesterday and felt like I was getting the flu. Could mephron cause this?

So sorry you're sufferring lindadanis.

I do not have babs, never tried mephron.
But I can still help you.

You need to read and study, what I call the Lyme bible.
Written by a doctor, who also suffered from Lyme.
He explains treatment protocols for co-infections.
Babs is on pages 22 - 24.

Hang in there friend.

Maybe you ARE getting the flu??

Mepron can bring out any and ALL of the symptoms of babesia. I'm not sure you would get a fever with a herx, but anything is possible.

thank you very much. I only had the fever and flu symptoms for one day. my llmd told me to stop the mephron for a few days and see how I feel. I felt fine yesterday but didn't take this medication either. Now I need to call and see if she wants me to start it up again. I know a side affect of this is flu like symptoms., and to go off the medication if that happens and seek medical help.

linda, 3-5 days after starting antibiotics is typical for more symptoms to kick in. It is not a pleasant experience.

One must hang in there and continue the course BUT, if the herx reaction becomes too too much, cause serious symptoms....then you can take a couple day break.

Yes, you would want to start the process again. It's not pleasant but killing of bad guys is the purpose.

I'm sorry there is not an easy way through this. Please read on this site by clicking the search button above on detox protocols. There are hundreds of posts about ways to survive, or calm you during the herx.

Mepron can be a very rough & tumble drug to take. Of course, babesia is even rougher but it does not go down easily.

Indeed, if it's too much, bad down or take a little time off. It's never good to push too hard - for various reasons.

Call your LLMD about this, though, as they really need to know how you are faring with this and have a chance to add their wisdom.

In case you might be coming down with flu, it's likely best to stop the mepron as it can be a burden too much during a flu.

This is true often for most things, if the body has an acute flu or cold, it's best to take a break from other longer-term treatments - sometimes, of course depends on what's being treated but for lyme and other chronic tick borne infections -- the body needs most of its attention to give to the flu recovery.

However, your LLMD is best to advise as some of the effects of this Rx as well as the liver & kidney load can be to blame, too.

Your liver support may need to be adjusted. Be sure it's a couple hours - both clock directions - away from Mepron, though. If taken too close together, most "liver support" options such as Milk Thistle can mean the liver moves Rx through too quickly and then the therapeutic dose drops.

You MUST have some kind of liver support on board. That can vary but it has to be with you. That often helps lessen treatment "herx" effects.

thanks everyone. my llmd never mentioned liver support? I do not know what to take? My main issue before I was diagnosed was severe anxiety and panic and terrible sweating. are these all signs of babesia or lyme?

It can be.. I have Babesia and Lyme and struggle with anxiety and panic...

Tryptophan has helped me feel calmer... and you could try 5htp or Sam-e....

thank you everyone. What is tryptophan? I never heard of it and where do I get it? I take Ativan for the anxiety but am weaning off of it. Don't want to be on benzo's forever. Foxy loxy, can I ask you what have you taken for the babesia?

Tryptophan is a natural supplement that can boost serotonin in your brain which calms you down. You can find it on amazon, ebay... etc. the best brand is supposedly LIDTKE and that is the brand I take and I find it effective.

5htp, and Sam-e do similar things in the brain. I believe you can even combine tryptophan and sam-e together.

Google them and see what you think.

I have taken just about everything out there drug wise for babesia.

Mepron
Clindamycin
azithromycin
daraprim
artimesinin
cryprolepis
malerone
quinine

None, of these drugs have been effective. I stilll had air hunger and night sweats...

I finally have begun Stephen Buhner's herbal tincture protocol for Babesia. I haven't been on it long, but my air hunger is getting better for the first time.

I still have a lot of head/brain problems though.

Oh, and I have found l arginine to be very helpful
