So long story short, I was very sick starting about two years ago. I was positive through a westernblot and so I started treating lyme last march with an LLMD and went through several antibiotic combinations. I saw some improvement in fatigue, but was still very sick with dizzyness, fatigue, brain fog, weakness, sore feet, chills, sweats, heart palpitations, blurred vision, etc.

Then, in November of last year we decided to start hitting coinfections since I was not seeing improvements anymore. We started with Mepron and Zithromax to target babesia. I was on that combo up until last thursday with no imrpovements. I feel worse.

I did a test using DNA Connexions and was positive only for Bartonella. Babesia, and borrellia were negative. So, last thrusday morning I stopped the mepron and started Rifampin that night.

By saturday I had this really strange pain in the left side of my stomach and it is numb to the touch. I still have this today even though I didnt take the rifampin yesterday hoping that it would go away.

Has anyone else had this? It's really scary.. Is this from the mepron? A herx from bartonella? A drug interaction? Ulcer?

Nic!

Welcome to LymeNet!

I'm sorry I can't say what could be the source of your pain and numbness. It could be many different things.

Personally, I've not heard of the symptoms you describe being related to anything you mentioned, however, it very well could be.

Wish I had more to offer, but the one thing you can/should do, is contact your doctors office and ask about it.

Please let us know what you find out and please note....

You are not alone!

Thank you so much for the reply.

My LLMD said that she thinks it's due to a herx. She said since bartonella affects the nervous system so much it makes sense that there could be some numbness when killing it.. Hopefully she's right and there isn't permanent damage going on here...

Nic, is it in the spleen area? The spleen with latest research says it is a partner of the immune system.

Also Bart is famous for causing gut issues. I used to have lots of pain in the spleen area. My spleen would be very ticked off if I was toxic and not detoxing enough.

So many weird symptoms pop up and scares us with this whole mess. Dr K now calls Bartonella the heavy hitter. He finds it more difficult to treat than Lyme and Babesia.

Pam,

Thank you so much for your response. Luckily the numbness has kind of gone away for the time being. It is still there, just not as noticeable. It's actually below the spleen area, closer to the waist.

Since the numbness has subsided a bit I think I will start the rifampin back up with either zithromax or biaxin. I am leaning towards biaxin because I think it is easier on my gut. I have had so much pressure, bloating and weight gain. Not sure if it was from the mepron and zithromax from treating babesia or what.

Did you see improvements while treating bartonella pretty quick? I have read some people who see a turnaround in just a couple weeks. That would be amazing.

Nic, no bart doesn't go away without a fight. You might be able to put it in remission in a short time.

But these bacteria(s) are known to lie low and let the other take the charge. In other words, bart symptoms can go away then....

Lyme might take control, or babesia rears it's ugly head. Please know that heavy duty symptoms can come on one day and be gone the next.

Sometimes those horrible symptoms had on for months. It's a vicious cycle. But it can get better.
