I was prescribed plaquinal recently for rheumatoid arthritis 400 mg. daily. I was told to start 200 mg. for the first week then jump up to 400 the second week. I started it three days ago and I think I am herxing on it because my babesia symptoms are worse.

I have a terrible headache, more anxiety, sweating, etc. Could this be possible? I am not on any meds at the moment for either lyme or babs as my llmd wanted me to get use to this med for the RA first, then she was going to add in mepron in a few weeks.

any thoughts here please? Also can someone suggest what to take for this horrible headache that I have had for months. Nothing seems to take it away, right above my eyes.

thank you for any advice.

You just wrote a couple days ago that your were not going to take the plaquenil as your new doctor advised against taking it?????

Yes, plaquenil can take one into a herx. Many symptoms and many new one will come on day after day.

I spoke to new llmd a few days ago and she told me to start it since I am having so much pain with the RA. She did not tell me that I could herx from it though. Thanks for letting me know that what I am experiencing is a herx. Feel like crap. How long will this last, does anyone know.

she was hoping that some of the supplements would help the Ra but I haven't even received them yet, never mind started them. I am in so much pain with the RA she decided I best start the plaquinal on a lower dose.

What to expect when starting treatment ;

I'm so sorry to say that you will have more bad days than good when starting treatment. Start a daily journal of all your symptoms. Slowly, very important, you must be patient, you will notice a few good days popping up. That will give you the incentive to keep fighting.

Stay the coarse, keep treating, and don't ever give up.

thank you Bartenderbonnie for replying. So I guess the answer is yes, I am herxing on this stuff. Well I need to stay on it since my RA is so bad and maybe it will hit the babesia as well. I will start the journal as you mentioned. Hopefully in a few days, it will get better, I sure hope so. I am so dizzy and the headaches are horrible.

At least you know for sure that your big problem is babesia.

Do what you can to detox.

detox such as lemon water, Epson salts, anything else? I was never really told how to, ugh?

linda, I was reading this today and thought of you. Make sure you continue reading and take in what this great doc has to say about RA and the cause.

I just read the article, interesting, so taking plaquinal is a waste of time???? I was never tested for mycoplasma. I wonder if I should be?

I have always felt that my RA came out of the blue when I got sick with lyme so I am not surprised there is a connection. When I asked my llmd if there was a connection, she said no there was not. she was the one who told me to get on plaquinal and see a specialist for the RA which I did. I got a second opinion from another llnp and she said do not take the plaquinal, treat it with anti-inflammatory supplements instead. Who do I believe???

I think the plaquinel could be killing some of the babesia. Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't plaquinel similar to anti-malarial drugs?

Posted by lindadanis (Member # 51204) on :

yes it is and my lyme doctor also wants me to start mepron soon which is also an anti-malarial drug so I will be on both soon. This advice was from my old llmd, my new llnp told me not to start plaquinal but because my RA is so bad, she decided that I should start it. I have not yet received any of the supplements that she wanted me to start as of yet.

This really helped me. [Smile]

Research it and see if it would be a good fit for your protocol.
Ask your LLMD on their opinion. You could also ask your rheumatiod Doctor about it but I would bet they haven't a clue about this product.

I have been taking mepron for babesia, but have been having migraines every day. My LLMD just switched me to plaquinel (well, generic: hydroxychloraquin). So, I get the impression they both are antimalarials.

that so weird because I have been having major headaches for months and now I think they started when I started the mepron. My RA doctor put me on plaquinal and my llmd put me on mepron together with it. Not sure why I would be on two antimalarial drugs together except one is treating the arthritis. Were you on another med with the mepron?

Mepron is totally out of the pocket reach for most folks. $$$$ and months of it. Most insurance co will fight tooth and nail on this one too.

Many folks fail this tx or slip back in illness after stopping it.

There are other ways of treating.

Pam, my insurance company has been paying for it, so I guess I am lucky but I am not getting any better on it. You mentioned other ways of treating, can u share what you mean, like what? I have had horrible headaches ever since I started it. Nothing takes them away but I thought the headaches were a symptom of babesia.

The problem is in my back, maybe one of my vertebrae is pressing on a nerve, thereby causing the headache. I myself was in terrible pain for two weeks, it was two hellish weeks. I took a bunch of sedatives, and because of that my brain just shut down for a while. Massage at 대전출장안마 helped me. Not only did they give me a massage, but they gave me a whole therapy. I'm so grateful to the people who got me out of this pain. Not even my enemy would wish to experience such pain in my head. So the choice is yours to keep poisoning yourself with pills or try something really effective.
