lately the pain in my neck and upper back gets severe. must be the arthritis and bulges.

I cannot seem to relax those muscles. they stay very tight and sore.

for those with neck issues, how do you relax?

Magnesium lotion is worth a try.

I am detriggering the right side of my neck with a strong left hand thumb on it! I lie down, bend my left arm over my face and dig the left hand thumb into any neck muscles until they start to radiate sensation and soften a little. I've had enough detriggering massage work done to me in the past to recognize the muscle release feelings.

So if you need a session with a detriggering massage therapist to understand what I'm talking about, then I suggest you schedule one. Especially for the upper back which I don't think you'll be able to handle.

It takes awhile to do - I started this project 6 months ago, and it's little by little in terms of softening the muscles. I do some of it on painkiller med.

When I started, I could not turn my neck more than 45 degrees to the right, and now I can turn it 90 degrees!! I'm proud of my work! It can be done.

My physical therapist explained that the body reabsorbs the scar tissue back in and gets rid of it. Interesting.

Maybe you can find a PT who is well-versed in "active release" .. is that the same thing, Robin?

I had great relief from it years ago.
