I have had 2 MRIs which show I have Osteoarthritis in my knees and my left knee is wearing into the meniscus.

I had this same dx a few years ago in my right knee, and was given 2 shots of Supartz (rooster combs) with no reaction.

Last Friday I had a shot of Orthovisc which is seemingly a different brand, but synthetic. I was in so much pain I didn't really research much about it and I told the Ortho I have Lyme Disease and am always nervous about flares happening from new drugs.

I have had what appears to be a really bad Lyme flare since Friday night. I started feeling achey, headache, had loose stools, nausea, over all malaise about 8 hours after the shot.

Anyone have experience with this/ I just read the super fine print in the brochure and it says "Orthovisc is contraindicated for patients with hypersensitivity to gram positive bacterial proteins." Is that us?

I called the on call Ortho on Saturday because my Dr was on vacation, about my reaction and he said he never heard of this type of reaction. Although on the Orthovisc website it clearly says these adverse reactions are possible.

I would appreciate any input.

Well since we all carry many more bacteria than just Lyme, we just don't truly know how they will react to a threat.

You have stirred something up with that Orthovisc. I call BS on the company not having this complaint before, because I was able to pull up complaint after complaint.

Thank you for your reply.

I did some research and I see that Hyaluronanic Acid is part of the Dr K. protocol to coax out Lyme bacteria.

I emailed my LLMD, and he just said to increase probiotics. I emailed him back and asked about going on abx to get through this.

The questions is, should I tough it out and do another shot, scheduled for this Thursday (they are sequential and have to be given one week apart) or just throw in the towel on this?

Again, this shot did help my knee, but I am not sure its worth feeling so terrible for this many days.

I have increased all detox and today I don't feel much better. It's kind of scary.

Looking at a DR K private FB page, it looks like he includes this HA in with many other things to draw out the Lyme and mop up.

So you might want to research further what and why he has a protocol that goes along with it HA. There is a reason for his madness. [Smile]

Also is there any other ingredients in that Orthovisc?

I wouldn't do an abx to suppress your immune system while you are reacting to this. I would do anything and everything to help my immune system.

These are the ingredients in each injection:

"Ingredients: Each mL of ORTHOVISC contains 15 mg of sodium hyaluronate adjusted to 20,000 – 70,000 centistokes, 9 mg of sodium chloride and q.s. Sterile Water for Injection USP."

I hesitate to post the link to the rest of Dr. K's protocol, so I will just copy and paste what I found:

1)Cistus tea (prevention of tick bites, biofilm- dissolving, borreliocidal) – start with 2 cups per day, slowly increase to 8 cups per day. As soon as any improvement is noticed, stay with that dose without further increase. If a die-off effect or worsening occurs, go back to the last tolerated dose

2)Binders – 2 options:

Lava Vitae (special zeolite – has scooper inside): 2 scoops 2-3 times daily between meals and/or at bedtime

Chlorella: 8-16 tablets (250 mg each) 3 times per day 30 min before meals or at bedtime (binders have the job to capture mobilized biotoxins in the intestinal tract to prevent their re-absorption)

3)Hyaluronic Acid Liquid: teases microbes out of protected hiding places; nutrient for joints and connective tissue. The Ki-Science product has the exact Dalton molecular size for complete sublingual uptake. Take 3 – 4 dropper-full twice daily. If joint pain is the main presenting issue, consider a third dose.

4)Cistus Incanus Plus Tincture 10 to 15 drops twice daily.

Edited to add that sodium hyaluronate, and Hyaluronic Acid are the same thing.
