I know it's bad for Lyme. Like real bad.

However, I haven't been diagnosed with lyme by a doctor and just saw a Neurologist. He says I have peripheral neuropathy and wants me to take prednisone for 3 days to help with inflammation. And also Lyrica.

He believes I have inflammation and that is what has been causing my neuropathy problems.

However, he doesn't know the root cause. I am having another 15 or so tests done including another, more advanced, lyme test done other than the one I had done 3 weeks ago.

Will 3 days of it make me a lot worse, considering I've been feeling quite well lately. Compared to the last few years.

I mean, what if it actually some sort of other autoimmune disease?! I've never been on a steroid so I can't say how I have ever felt on it in the past.

Should I risk it?

If you have Lyme, yes, it will make you feel worse. I, personally, would not risk it.

Lyme is not autoimmune, it's a bacterial infection, and steroids can give it the opportunity to come out since they're immunosuppressive.

The Lyrica wouldn't be a problem, my LLMD had me take it for sleep.

I would see an LLMD for proper diagnosis. You're unlikely to get diagnosed with Lyme (if you have it) from a regular doctor no matter what the specialty.

It will mess up your test also.

Okay I'll see what I can do. He has me off all pain medication. I was taking quite a bit for constant headaches and lower back pain that I've been having the last month or so.

I am now fighting a cold and feel like crap.

He said the steroid would help my back, but I truly believe I have Lyme and I'm so scared. I haven't been having the unbearable joint pain in a few months. Except a little here and there.

This is incredibly frustrating.

Topic: what do STEROIDS actually do to those with lyme -

or for someone who MIGHT have undiagnosed lyme or any other kind of tick-borne or chronic stealth infection.

Risks, long term damage discussed. Links.

And why BIOLOGICS that also dampen immune function can also be just as damaging if infections are not being properly identified & thorough addressed.

ishan-- my dad has debilitating peripheral neuropathy (can barely walk or cut his food now). He grew up in an endemic area. I have always thought it was Lyme but my dad has never been willing to do a true Lyme test where they test all the bands - IgeneX. I have accepted though sadly, you can lead a horse to water....

Have you done this? Bless you. I know personally peripheral neuropathy is awful!Hang in there and DO NOT GIVE UP!!! [group hug]
