My immune system is testing quite low, and LLMD is recommending IVIG. After speaking with my primary care M.D. regarding IVIG, he states that it does help boost immune system, but it is only temporary. Has this been your experience if you were prescribed IVIG? Thanks for your input.

Here is a great thread on IVIG, how to qualify for insurance covered treatment, my experience. I am still on monthly IVIG to this day.
To be honest, it is NOT a silver bullet. It is another tool in your arsenal to beat this stealth infection. Hope this helps.

I 'was' very very low and did IVIG every three weeks for over a year. My numbers would come up but not stay up.
I could see no difference or improvement in the way I felt. I've been off for 9 weeks now and will talk with the immunologist next week.
I have bee treating for very high mercury and lead since August. Since heavy metals suppress the immune system, I hope that detoxing these will bring the immune system up to a normal.
IVIG is not the silver bullet I'd hoped.

I saw Dr N last night and she has me on the same track to see Dr PN at Faulkner Hosp in Jamaica Plains. We pulled blood for a bunch of auto-immune related tests so PN would have results at my first visit to speed things along.
Looks like a pretty expensive process. The Quest test list totaled over $14k which should be greatly reduced by BCBS contracted prices, but I still have to hit my $5500 out of pocket deductible before they pay anything.
I'll call for appt later today.

Yes, IgG has helped me. I do subq at home -- side effects are more minimal that way, and you can control the dose so it's tolerable. IVIG can have serious side effects, like death, so I feel more comfortable with the SQig .
IgG infusions are not a cure for infections, but the IgG will keep you from ending up dead if you contract the common cold or pneumonia. It is replacing what you don't make on your own, and the antibodies do die off in 2-4 weeks.
