I know many of us have thyroid and hormonal issues. I do. I'm seeing a new obg who is a DO, to go over some fibroid and cyst results. I picked her over the mds bc I'm hoping she'll be more outside the box.
Anyway, I was reading that overall, urine testing for female hormones is best as it shows free and bound hormones as well as metabolites, which both saliva and serum can't.
Is this covered by any insurance? I'm guessing no bc that would make too much sense and be too helpful and sane.... As we're all rolling in money, as most ppl are that need this type of thorough assessment...

I've been deep in the thyroid world of education for 3 years and I've never heard of anyone having urine testing for thyroid.
Factually thyroid blood tests are just as worthless and factual as Lyme testing. Not!
There are guidelines with wide lab ranges for thyroid. It's BS testing. Sound familiar?
Again it's about how the patient feels on treatment. One must also have a doctor that knows how to read and understand a complete thyroid panel.
Telling a Lyme patient their blood tests are all normal is exactly what you get in the majority of the thyroid world testing.
I'm sorry but the patient needs to be as educated as the doctor when it comes to thyroid testing, treatment & options. If you want further recommendations on where to start your education, including female hormones, let me know.

I agree about the thyroid. And thyroid affects other hormones. My female hormones have also been off. My question was more for female hormones. I'm going to ask her to get the urine test but if she won't, I'll try to ask my ND or lyme doc. I was hoping to have SOMETHING covered.
I need an OAT test and spectracell, and that's 1000 right there. I'm sick to death of paying for this. So was hoping I wouldn't have to pay for this too. I make 200 A MONTH and have 27k of credit card debt all due to medical.
I'm awaiting a court date for disability. Which is 1.5 years. It amazes me how much sick ppl are treated in this joke of a country. Worth reporting to amnesty international.
I would appreciate a rec for a thyroid specialist that takes bcbs medicaid in IL.

I'm ok with that too. But as I explained, my question was more re female hormonal testing. I'd def like to get a full picture, eg bound and nonbound and metabolites. Which cannot be done by blood.

The urine testing for hormones is good .. but yes, still pricey.
