Seeking more information on Prolotherapy or PRP injections for joints.

Might be a better alternative than a steroid shot.

Thanks.

I did tons of them about 15-20 years ago. I think it helped. It's pretty painful, though.

I always drugged up when I had it done. LOL.

Prolotherapy helped me the MOST for lower back herniated disks. Pain be gone. I hardly ever mention my back anymore.

Insurance companies consider it 'investigational' so they refuse to pay for it. Just like Lyme treatments. Penny-wise, pound foolish.

My LLMD marked all of my painful areas and injected a solution of dextrose and procaine. Your natural immune system will recognize the foreign substance and send in the troops to heal that area. It is very painful. I took a pain pill and an aspirin beforehand. DO NOT TAKE ASPIRIN PRODUCTS!!!! My injection sites bled for 20 minutes, I didn't know. Within 3 to 4 days, pain was gone! It felt like it reset my whole body.

I had 20 shots my 1st time, cost around 600.00.
I cried like a baby during procedure and cried when I got the bill. Expensive but worth it. It gave me my life back. Living with a pain scale of 9 or 10 everyday will make anyone not want to live.

You mustn't do anything for atleast a few weeks to allow the injection to stay in the ligaments and tendons areas. No baths for a few days so as not to infect puncture holes.

YOU MUST LEARN AND COMMIT TO PROPER BACK HEALTH or you will reinjure your back.

Practice proper posture
No heavy lifting
No twisting or turning at your trunk or waist
Light lifting using your knees
Sleep with a pillow between your knees
Rest your back is pain appears
Use OTC anti-inflammatory and herbal anti-inflammatory
No high heels
No gardening
Exercise core muscles and back muscles gently
Cold ice therapy first followed by heat therapy

My experience, I am not a doctor. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Bartenderbonnie.

Am debating it for my knee. I am a wimp and one lady told me it took 50 injections in one session. Yipe. Might be worth it.

I have spent so much on physical therapy already.

If i do get brave and try it and it works my shoulder would be next.

I found prolotherapy shots very effective for ligament instability. My ligaments are so much tighter now and the pain is gone. I didn't find them to be terribly painful. I didn't need anywhere near fifty shots. Generally, you wait three months and if you need more shots you will get them again. The doctor will monitor your progress as to how many sets you need.

They do not work for everyone, you have to give it a try to find out.

Also if you don't respond to the prolotherapy you can try Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) shots. They are usually used if the patient does not respond to the prolotherapy shots.
