Anyone ever on Macrobid (Nitrofurantoin) for Bartonella? If so, how bad were the herxes? When did you feel relief?
I'm at the end of my rope with this. I feel so miserable.
I did a search and it seems this drug hasn't been of mention much with Bartonella on here.

I dont think macrobid is used for bartonella. Its a urinary tract antibiotic. It concentrates heavily in urine through the kidneys, and hardly goes in to other bodily tissues. So that makes it unlikely you are experiencing a herxheimer reaction from it. If you are sensitive towards macrobid or one of the excipients then that could possibly explain feeling bad on the therapy.
I know i do very badly on many antibiotics. But i now know it has a lot to do with excipients in my case. For example, i get very weird anxiety and neurological symptoms on tinidazole in the form of Fasigyn (Pfizer). But i do very well on tinidazole from Tiniba; i just feel better and better. This took me many years to figure out.
So bottom line, make sure you are not reacting to medication in a bad way. I know its not easy to recognize these sensitivities, but its important that you learn over time to distinguish between a true herx and side effects.

I'm very discouraged now. I dont want to step on my doctors toes. I have researched this drug right when she put me on this and yes this is infact used for Bartonella, not as much as Rifampin, Clarithromycin, azithr etc. I absolutely hate this and don't know what to do.

From what i read macrobid does have some anti bartonella activity, but given the distribution throughout the body i dont think it is preferred for a systemic bartonella infection.
Dont be too discouraged though. You are learning. Evaluating many drug reactions over the years will give you many clues as to what is going on inside your body. What you are sensitive to, what infections you carry, etc. It just takes a lot of time and critical thinking.
I see the struggle you are going through and i do feel very bad for you. I was in that horrible place just a couple of years a go. Its not a fun place to be at, thats for sure...
