Anyone else taking natural thyroid and affected by the recall of Nature-throid? I got a letter from CVS Caremark saying they couldn’t fill. They were no help for alternatives but I did find another drug through a compound pharmacy. Not much more expensive either because it is not custom compounded. And they were fast! Contact me if you need the pharmacy.

Yes... I'm taking Armour again.

I hope the NP comes back soon.

Does anyone know why Natur-throid was recalled?

I used to use it, then had to switch to NP Thyroid, etc. But I saw a while ago (within the last 10 months or a year?) on StopTheThyroidMadness.com that there were problems with Natur-thorid, NP Thyroid, etc.

At that point (and now), people are finding that Armour Thyroid, or compounded dessicated thryoid, is best. However, Armour is not as easy to dissolve or as good tasting as it used to be.

All, or almost all, of the dessicated thyroid has been coming from China. There are huge two problems with that: There is next to no oversight in a country that has a history of many violations.

Also, there has been a Swine Flu going around in China for years, and they are not past using sick pigs for medicine. It's tragic that the US gets almost all raw ingredients for meds from China, then they're made in India. Or everything from India.

With next to no oversight in either country and tons of violations, but the US still allows them to sell to us. Unreal.

I heard on my thyroid site on FB that Nature-Throid recalled it themselves when they found that it contained "too much" T3.

Well, let me tell you that I have never felt so good while on it this summer!! I compared my last two thyroid tests (one in June and one in October) and my T3 was indeed higher!

I'm letting my doctor know about this and hopefully, he can add T3 if it drops back down again.

I really and truly have had SO much more energy.

I hope they will be back with the Nature-Throid soon.

Nature-Throid / WP Thyroid etc.. are all made by the same company. This company chose to do a voluntary recall (as opposed to a product being in violation of FDA guideline or otherwise under mandatory recall) as they found that their products were subpotent - that is, they contained less medicine than intended.

More info here - https://getrealthyroid.com/voluntary-recall-information.html

https://www.rlclabs.com/voluntary-recall-information-update.html

GetRealThyroid is owned by RLCLabs, the makers of NatureThroid / WP Thyroid. Essentially, they've pulled ALL their product, not just the original batches. Hopefully they'll have WP Thyroid available again soon, but it appears Armour is the closest alternative for the moment.

I have switched from nature throid to NP thyroid. I’ve been having pain and aching down both arms and am wondering if it could be from that change in medication. Has anyone had this happen? Thanks.

There have been problems with NP thyroid for quite a while. I forget what the problem was, but Stop the Thyroid Madness always has a lot of info on the various manufacturers and issues. I think that problem was that much of the desiccated thyroid was coming from China, where they've had a severe Swine Flu problem in the pigs. People thought that they were using even sick pigs. I wouldn't be surprised, unfortunately.

I used to use Nature-thyroid, and then NP thyroid, but had to switch back to Armour thyroid.

Oh ugh... That's not good because my husband just started on NP also.

I have so much pain all the time that I'm not sure I can tell which is which.

As a follow-up. Turns out it was Polymyalgia Rheumatica and I was treated so that is better. Dr. did Lyme test and both Immunoblot IgM and IgG came back positive. So I guess I know for sure I Have chronic lyme (was treated years ago). I was surprised, but explains the ongoing fatigue, brain fog and sleep difficulties.

Very sorry to hear, patty. I'm glad you were diagnosed and treated.

Does this mean that you were treated with steroids?? That's what they usually give for Polymyalgia Rheumatica. To my mind it is usually from TBDs and possibly other pathogens.

Hopefully, you are treating the Lyme and company. My mother-in-law years ago was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rheumatica and was on steroids for years. She was an MD and there was no talking to her about Lyme. Sigh.

Yes, I had to take Steriods, but only for 10 days. I weaned off slowly. It took the pain away on the first day, and has not returned. Also put on an ABX.
