I am reasonably well after long term lyme treatment from 2005-2010. My only lingering symptoms are occasional twitching (Bart or Lyme?) and I occasionally wake at night from a deep sleep feeling like I am being smothered. I need to sit up and take deep slow breaths to calm down. I am also typically sweaty when this happens and it can develop into panic if I let it.

This does not happen during the day - I never brake out into typical Babesia sweats, but in the beginning of my illness the bed would be drenched at night.

I don't think this is heart related as its been checked out and I exercise without any issues or being short of breath, not overweight etc...

I believe my LLMD thought I had underlying Babesia, but I also had a positive Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever test, Bartonella (lots of anxiety) and stomach gastroparesis issues.

I've been taking Blackseed Oil at bedtime lately as it helps me sleep and is supposed to be very good for you. Could that be hitting something?

Any thoughts from Babesia patients out there? I think we only treated with herbs like Ababs and Ivermectin etc...way back in 2008-9.

Thanks for any input. The smothering feeling wakes me up and causes anxiety, but it's been coming and going since 2004 or so, so I doubt it will kill me!

I thought I was through with Babs and Bart, but they are proving very tenacious. I don't get the sweats lately, so I am slowly getting better.

Others may know which of Babs or Bart causes sweats during the day and which at night. I forget now, but I know Babs makes me feel like there's a big cat is curled up on my chest. I just can't get a deep breath.

There is another possibility. Sleep apnea will cause you to wake up suddenly out of a deep sleep because of low oxygen levels.

Well obviously "air hunger" and "night sweats" are both key diagnostic clues for Babesia.

However, and this might not be a popular opinion, but if these are your only symptoms, I would be reluctant to start treating right away.

It's my understanding that doing both of the iGenex Babesia tests together (IFA and FISH) will give you relatively sensitive results.

That might be a good first step if you can spare the expense.

Yes, I am hesitant to "stir things up" if this is my only symptom. Perhaps some Ababs would help. Has that worked for anyone with minor Babesia symptoms?

This does strongly remind me of babesia. Drenching the sheets at night and problems breathing. Buhner has a 5-month herbal protocol that worked well for me.

How many rounds of antibiotics have you had? Candida may also pertain.

I had 4 yrs of combo orals followed by 6 months of IM Bicillin LA, which really did the trick. We went after the Bart first and never treated Babs except a few months of Ababs, Cryptolesis and some Ivermectin. Buhner or Ababs is probably a good idea. Might help rule it out at least.

Thank you.

"I am reasonably well after long term lyme treatment from 2005-2010"

Eventually the level of antibiotics in your system will drop and those suppress the immune system. ABX don't cure lyme but they will put it in a dormant state until levels in your body drop.

If you took them for 5 years then you were pretty saturated so it took 10 years before you have issues again.

Black seed oil activates the immune system so that is what you are experiencing an immune system that has become reactivated against your infections.
