Has anyone ever gotten a false Covid dx when it was really your Lyme or EBV?

I was told it is illegal for my now former PCP to to this if it shows up on my insurance statement because hospitals and doctors get extra reimbursement if a patient tests positive..I never tested positive. Two negatives. I was told this fraud.

I'm in a battle with someone in another Lyme message forum defending my former doctor and saying this false covid dx could actually benefit me. Ok...how?because of long haulers syndrome? I dont need this individuals lecture.

I have lyme, a few confections and EBV. Never had Covid. I live with someone unvaccinated, two ppl over the age of 60 with underlying conditions, coworkers in my department ( one still not vaccinated) Guess what? Nobody is sick!!!

I'm not getting any better! Even before this "Covid" diagnosis.

I feel like I am slowly dying and being laughed at and not taken seriously....I'm a woman I forgot, I can't fight or speak up and be my own advocate because that makes us look bad.

Mainstream docs and the CDC doesn't care about us.

And by the way it angers me more because this same doctor denied my Lyme too. She barely knows me only was my doctor not even 2 months. Her bedside manner was horrifying.

If I was healthy and didn't have lyme I'd cut her some slack. But the way she has treated me then is gonna use Covid as a dx to get extra $, I'm a cash cow now?

What are these doctors gonna do in a few short months when cold and flu season is here? Every cough and sniffle is now Covid?

Not sure I understand. Did you have a positive Covid test?

If not, I would call the administrator of the PCP office because that is fraud. But your doctor does not make more money if you have a Covid diagnosis. That is a myth.

Do you have an online medical portal where you can see your diagnoses, meds and md notes? My PCP put incorrect info on my chart and when I called her on it she dropped me as a patient. (Not covid related, though). She also billed extra for finding a lump in my breast and I got the administrator involved and the bill was canceled.

I would seriously look for a different PCP.

I was told by a friend (who like me works in healthcare) that hospitals and physicians do get extra reimbursement if a patient has Covid. I've seen it at the medical facility I work at. There MUST be a positive Covid test for proof. I did NOT test positive I tested negative, twice!

Yes I saw it on my patient portal. She even said it that day in the exam room that she would bet her medical license I had Covid....pretty brave to say that Doc.

I am no longer a patient of hers. I called her office the other day and spoke to her secretary. I was professional, respectful but very direct.

I knew at my very first appointment she wasn't for me, but I wanted to be fair give her another chance...well my intuition was right the first time.

Turn her in.

Yes, they do get TONS of $$$ for CV patients. I know the hospitals are definitely cashing in while killing patients to boot.

Yeah, I'm just the crazy one.

They get extra money for giving vaccines too.

I told her of my bouts of EBV I've had in the past too, thinking it got reactivated and asked if she could run some blood work and she refused, said EBV blood tests aren't reliable.

I had pain in my upper left quadrant, that's where your spleen is and that gets painful and swells up with EBV. She didn't care, didn't bother examining me.

Tutu--Let me clarify my statement. A GP does not get paid more for a covid diagnosis. Hospitals do get paid more by Medicare for covid patients, but covid patients generally require a lot of care--respiratory therapists, more equipment, PPE etc.

And I think it is a slap in the face to health care workers to assume the hospitals are killing covid patients You will always be able to find a story that claims that the hospital protocol is wrong and the person's protocol was better, but the nurse and mds are trying so hard to save people and they are very exhausted.

Maybe if more people got vaccinated, since unvaccinated people now make up the majority of covid hospitalizations the costs would go down. You are have nurses etc. quitting because of the emotional and physical toll of caring for covid patients for so long.

Tutu--You are correct that Medicare pays more for the administration of covid vaccines than other vaccines, probably because we are in a global pandemic and the more people that get vaccinated, the fewer transmissions and fewer mutations etc. Gee-that might decrease hospitalizations and costs!

Mountainsky--Your doctor sounds incompetent. She could have at least run a complete blood cell count to see if the monocytes and lymphocytes are high which is an indicator of EBV.

I just had that done in July along with a mono spot test. All was fine for me.

Glad you dumped her and hope you find a much better doctor.

Yup, if only it was that simple. No hard work on her part, shes not getting pricked for the blood test I am. I couldn't win with this doctor.

To these docs it's Covid everything, whatever looks good under CDC surveillance. There are other diseases and chronic ailments that still need attention and intervention. Sad.

Well, I don’t think every doctor thinks it is covid everything. Mine sure didn’t.

Of course, when I had covid like symptoms I got a Covid test even before I went to the MD (which was negative) and the md looked for other things. Finally decided it was just a respiratory virus that would run its course. No suggestion of covid whatsoever.

Good mds are sure worth their weight in gold, aren’t they?

Yup they are few and far in between.

It's been a summer of hell for me. Sometimes I think this is only the beginning...

The truth will come out. It always does.

(yes, I know doctors don't get paid extra .. except for giving vaccines... that happens with all vaccines)

Thanks Robin but I am all set. I have enough anxiety going on.

The doctor would bet her medical license you have covid? Well, there you go - you don't so turn her in. This is fraud.

I am still waiting to see how it is documented on my insurance statement for reimbursement. I was told to place a call to the insurance co as well.
