My best friend was diagnosed about 10 years ago with "probable MS" (MRI's always came back clear)... To make a long story short, he went into "remission" for a few years, and this year has started having a reoccurance of symptoms.

In the past few weeks he has rapidly gone downhill, and has developed severe neuropathy. A CT scan last week showed a cerebral infarction, but a subsequent CT scan & MRI came back clear.

We have been to 3 different hospitals, seen multiple doctors, and no one is willing to help him, or to at least manage his pain for the time being.

After some research, we both suspect that the culprit of his health issues could be Lyme.

Can anyone recommend a doctor knowledgeable about Lyme in Virginia, Tennessee, West Virginia, North Carolina, or Kentucky?

Thanks so much for taking the time to read.

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for VA, MD & NC.

There are none in TN, KY & WVA.

Your friend needs to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

They are far and few between, unfortunately. He needs to go where they are.

Also most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/2/15615?#000005

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner to see a LLMD by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/VirginiaLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources for you (including Support Groups info):
www.lyme-aware.org/virginia.html

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a new book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Get it at your local library or buy it used on Amazon.

View "Under Our Skin" for free on www.hulu.com

Btw - please break up your posts into 2-3 sentence paragraphs, as there are people on Lymenet who cannot read large blocks of text due to neurological problems from Lyme. Thanks.

Your friend will need a really good LLMD... be sure to get feedback on who you choose to go with.

God bless!

Thank you so much for this information! (And for the tip on shorter paragraphs, I edited my original post.)

I'll be sure to get feedback on who we decide to see. [Smile]
