You are in a very bad area for lyme doctors, let alone one that takes Medicare.

See this post from last year:

Nothing has changed since then. I suggest you try to find someone in north Florida or perhaps Louisiana.

Go to "Support Groups" on the left side of this page, near the top and click on it. Find Florida and Louisiana. Call or email the leaders of these groups asking them if they know of anyone who treats lyme at a reasonable price and any who take Medicare.

Also ask for any "lyme friendly" doctors. These are doctors with regular medical practices (so they generally would take Medicare) but they know something about lyme and will treat a person long-term. (They do NOT specialize in lyme disease, in other words.)

That may be the best you will find if you really must have one that takes Medicare.

You can check the Alabama lyme support groups also.

Wish you the best. Welcome to LymeNet! We will help you here all we can.

If we could pop one out of our hats, we'd sure do it for you!

Do not consider the one "LLMD" in southern AL... Just do not.

You may want to hang out in Medical Questions and get the info you need in order to treat yourself.

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent with some suggestions. I don't know of any LLMDs in AL.

You need to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Here is a link for them:

Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. You need to go where they are and very, very few take Medicare.

Also, most LLMDs do not take insurance due to the politics surrounding this disease. Read poster TF's explanation about this:

"Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance"
http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=025539;p=0

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/AlabamaLyme/info

Maybe they can help.

Some more resources for you (including Support Groups info):

The top LLMD, Dr. H, has written a book entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". It is an excellent source of information.

Read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Get it at your local library or buy it used on Amazon.
