I'm looking for a LLMD in Oklahoma. Diagnosed with Lyme disease over a year ago but suspect I've had it longer. Needing help finding a Dr. that can help. I've been to a infectious disease doctor with no treatment other than I'm just getting older and it's all in my head.

Thank you
J

Welcome to Lymenet! PM sent for TX & MO.

Many here have experienced the same thing. "It's all in your head" is a common "diagnosis" made by non Lyme-literate doctors (LLMDs) who don't know what's going on.

Stay away from Infectious Disease Doctors (IDSA). They believe one dose of antibiotics is enough and don't believe in chronic Lyme. Patients end up getting sicker.

Here is a link for you to read about "Two Standards of Care":

http://lymedisease.org/news/lymepolicywonk/lymepolicywonk-two-standards-of-care-revisited.html

You need to be evaluated and treated by a LLMD. Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Here is a link for them:

LLMDs are far and few between, unfortunately, so you need to go where they are. None in OK. At least half of all Lyme patients go out-of-state for care.

Also, most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":
http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=025539;p=0

When calling for an appointment, ask if they have any cancellations or a waiting list. Patients have been able to get in sooner by doing this.

Check the online state Lyme groups at:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/OklahomaLyme/info

Maybe they can help.
Some more resources (including Support Groups info):

Read the books written by the top LLMD, Dr. H, titled, "Why Can't I Get Better?" and his new one, "How Can I Get Better?". They are an excellent source of information.

Also read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Check the local library or buy it used on Amazon.

Btw - I know you are new to Lymenet, but please break up your posts into 2-3 sentence paragraphs, as there are people on Lymenet who cannot read large blocks of text due to neurological problems from Lyme.

To do this click the pencil/paper icon, make your changes, then click "Edit Post". Thanks.

Welcome to LymeNet jhub!

I do believe...

Hoping&Praying gave you excellent advise, as she has done for many others over the years. We are lucky to have here here helping people who are hurting.

One thing she mentioned was to stay away from infectious disease doctors, however, if you have a big Army tank or steam roller out there in Oklahoma, please feel free to go mow them over!

(JUST KIDDING!)

[lol]

She is right and I say they are even worse than most can imagine. Basically, they suck big time and are dangerous to our health. Instead of wasting time and money in the future...

Please go to www.MarylandLyme.org and look at the menu to your left you will see "DOCTOR REFERRALS".

Click there to find the names and contact information for health care professionals in many fields who are treating Lyme & TBD's in all of the states.

Here are some ways to locate alternative health care professionals too. If you scroll toward the bottom of the page you will see what you can do for states with few or no LLMDs there.

https://sites.google.com/site/lymedoctors/alternative

Good luck to you! Be sure to knock on LymeNet's door any time you have concerns or questions, OK?

(I know, I'm either right- or crazy- tonight!)

[Big Grin]

BTW- Just heard today that the two on OK's list aren't taking new patients right now. Don't know if it is correct, but my source is pretty intelligent, kind and very helpful to many.

You may want to confirm it though?
