Hi All. I'm newly diagnosed with Ehrlichia and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. My Nurse Practitioner prescribed Doxycycline. Is it best to go ahead and find a Lyme literate doctor now or give it time to see how I do.?
And can anyone recommend a doctor in NC? I"m open to conventional and alternative physicians.
Thank you!

Welcome to Lymenet Jeri.

You need to make an appointment with a LLMD.

You can request a LLMD through Global Lyme Alliance here;

You can request a LLMD through ILADS (International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society) here;

These are simple e-mail formats that you fill out and they will contact you with a LLMD closest to you.

It sounds like you have had a TBI (Tick Borne Infection) for some time. Therefore it is extremely important you find a qualified LLMD that has successfully treated Lyme patients. You must research all LLMD's before you commit to their practice. To do this, Google for patient reviews or connect with your area's Lyme support groups. Lyme sufferers in your state will help you navigate.

Here's Lyme support groups in your area;

Most LLMD's don't participate with insurances. Here's why;;f=2;t=025539;p=0

Get your finances in order as TBI's are expensive to treat. Bring all your medical records, all blood labs, all procedures performed, all providers seen, daily symptom list, all meds, ect. This can save you money.

You should watch "Under Our Skin", a documentary about the struggles Lyme patients face when trying to get diagnosised and treated.

You will have a lots of questions. Please utilize Lymenet's 'search' function located in the middle of home page. It contains a vast array of first-hand experiences from members. Or you can post questions in open forum and a member will reply. We are all in this together and will help you in anyway.💚

I will send you a private message.
Hang in there.

Welcome to Lymenet!

Sorry, but I don't know of any Lyme-literate doctors to recommend to you in NC.

You need to be evaluated and treated by a Lyme-literate doctor (LLMD). Non LLMDs have no clue about this horrible disease or its complex treatment!

A LLMD is one who has treated Lyme disease and the co-infections which come with it for many years and has gotten patients well. A good one will follow Dr. B's Guidelines, the "gold standard" for Lyme treatment.

Here is a link for them:

Unfortunately, LLMDs are far and few between. You need to go where they are.

Also most LLMDs do not accept insurance due to the politics surrounding this horrible disease. Read poster TF's explanation, "Why Lyme Doctors Don't Take Insurance":;f=2;t=025539;p=0

Contact the NC State Lyme Groups. Maybe they can help - they would know better about NC.

Read the books written by the top LLMD, Dr. H, titled, "Why Can't I Get Better?" and "How Can I Get Better?". They are an excellent source of information.

Also read "Cure Unknown" by Pamela Weintraub. Get it at your local library or buy them used online.
