Hey all,

What can I use on my 3 and 1 year old to help keep the ticks off?

Has anyone used permethrin on their clothes?

The weather is great here and we are outside and I'm just about ready to pass out from the fear of ticks.

Please don't tell me to search...it doesn't work!!

Any natural products?

We are also getting ready to protect the yard...fence, pea gravel border, spraying....so any suggestions there would be great.

cabellos has a permethrin spray(for shoes) and also a product to wash into cloths(on backorder)

Go to a local army navy store or a outdoors supply store and ask for permethrin it is only for use on clothing it works very well lasts up to 2 weeks, and deet is for skin also theres a product thats used skin so soft by Avon tick repellant.

We use a version of it here at forestry it is hand mixed has white vinegar 1/2cup oil, of clove 6 drops, oil of eucalyptus 10 drops, oil of camphore 10 drops, 1/2cup water, 1cup skin so soft, shake well and spray on skin and clothing but it has to be refreshed every 2hrs and it makes you slimey and vinegry smelling.You can order all of these from phamacy.

The hotter and dryer the air the more frequent of redose.

DEET concentrations for children MORE than 2 months old is 10% of less;

adults is 12-25% MAX; no stronger.

Never apply deed products to CHILDREN'S FACES and hands or let any spray get into their mouths.

Consider using new DEET-free repellents, which can be effective for 30-45 minutes.

Permanone on clothes is NOT for children.
It is a spray 100% effective against ticks.

After an outing, examine your clothing and place in a HOT dryer for 20 minutes. Ch3eck your skin thoroughly, especially the scalp area.

Check your pets & remove ticks.

Above was gotten last year I believe thru an article from LYMEINFO. I used the above to type in a lyme brochure our support group was doing at the time.

Various forms and concentrations.

I've been looking a long time and this *looks like something that really could do the trick.

I also like the fact that application lasts all day, and it is safe, smells good..even good for you...and can be used on pets, people, houseboards...lawn.

In my opinion, Deet is unsafe for regular use.

Yes just different companies basically same stuff never ever spray on skin or breath it!!!

Once its sprayed on clothes (outdoors)
It dries and is locked on for usually two weeks theres a new one out that they say lasts 1 month.

Ps but dont wash with other clothes .

READ directions on any pesticides very carefully always.

Heres another one.Dont know how good but you can check it out.

I can let you know, but I am hopeful about this one, it looks good.

I know the Pyrithrimin (sp?) is good for things like your boots and outer bibs, overalls, ect..
if you are doing work in the woods..

Kills mosquites and larvae, repels ticks and some of the animals that carry them..

I wonder if it might kill some tick eggs/larvae..but I'm not sure.

Chemical sprays and insect repellants are neurotoxic, and make the environmental conditions far worse in regard to balance of nature..

Which is just one of the reasons we have insect borne disease epidemics.

Every creature has a purpose and many of the creatures that eat ticks and mosquitoes are endangered because of pesticides.

Do you know how many bugs frogs, songbirds,bats, praying mantis, certain neamatodes, ect. eat??

Spray a pesticide poison, and they are all gone with the others.

I think continued use will only continue to create resistant "bad bugs"..and cause toxicity in humans and mammals.

L.L. Bean -Buzz off clothing and socks. Spray shoes with 0.5% permethrin spray. Yeah, Yeah sprays are toxic, etc. But Lyme has DESTROYED my life.

Mo, I salute you for your comments on toxic sprays. That is one of the major reasons we were or are all sick now to begin with. As the post about "BB in Museums" shows, ticks have been around for a long, long time. The reason we did not reach these epidemic earlier is that the population lived in a cleaner and healthier surrounding and were not nearly as toxic as everyone of us is today.

Shame on everyone that has not been able to grasp this yet and who continues to contribute to the damage. We are literally and effectively killing our children! who are the ones that suffer the most.
