I started this combo last Tuesday and was OK until the week-end. I spent both Saturday and Sunday in bed, not able to do anything. This is VERY unusual for me - I NEVER stay in bed, even when I feel like crap I'm up getting things done and, I work full time (not easy but necessary) The pain was absolutely incredible - the worst it's EVER been, while FULLY medicated with pain meds that normally keep it down at a very managable level. All day Saturday I was really nauseous then Sunday, the pain lessened some, it was still really bad, and I was still nauseous and feeling lousy.

I'm wondering if this is a herx or if this is an adverse reaction to the meds. I really don't think I've ever felt as bad as I did on Saturday. I've had pain, and I've been sick in my life, but I have never felt like that! I first was thinking it was the meds but they wouldn't cause increased pain - would they??

I have never had a herx, I've been on IV Rocephin, Ketek/Flagyl, and another abx I'm not remembering. Never felt anything at all going on - not even more fatigue. I thought I understood what I'd read about the herx and the "worsening of symptoms" part of it - but I'm still wondering if this is what this is. Does it sound like it's a herx?

I feel a little better today - still a little nauseous and the pain is still worse than normal, but I can live with it.

I really want to see some change/improvement - I improved after a couple months of IV Rocephin but have had no change since. It's frustrating and it makes me lose my confidence.

I guess all of us sometimes wonder if we're being treated for the right thing. Do I really have Lyme Disease? or is it something else??? The tests say I do and the doctor says I do - I have nearly all of the symptoms - but do I?? Sometimes I'm so sick I just don't know what to think.

Anyway - sorry to ramble on like that. I just get so confused about it. There's so much inaccurate information on both sides that it's very difficult to sort it all out.

Thanks for input - I really appreciate anything anyone can add.

rena,
Hope you are feeling better now than when you posted....
I haven't done the combo you are doing, but a couple of months ago, I started with clindamycin and tinidazole(tindamax)....I got knocked down hard... For me it was a huge neuro herx.

My LLMD pulled me off the tini for a bit until the clindamycin had some time to bring down the keet load. I started back on the tini 4 weeks ago, and after 3 day my vision improved signifigantly , and then I got hit with an almost two week aching herx. Doing much better now and getting some long lost energy back.

If your symptoms do not improve you may want to touch base with your Dr. Sometimes it detrimential to get too worn down.

I wish you well!

Thank you very, very much for replying. It's so helpful to hear what has happened with others getting the same or similar treatments.

May I ask what you mean by a "neuro" herx? What other kinds are there and how do they differ? Do different parts of your body have different reactions? You said your eyesight improved - did you notice anything happening with your eyes?

I took a dose of the abx yesterday afternoon (around 3)and last night was just about the worst for me - I was sick as could be with both nausea, and pain that was at an incredible level. I didn't take the evening dose and didn't take it this morning either. I think, what I'm going to do is take it this evening after eating and before going to bed. That way, maybe all the vile stuff will go on while I'm asleep. Then, maybe I can work my way up on it. I work full time (and then some...) have a fairly long commute and have a child at home - besides the home which is a huge mess - I just can't be laid out for days on end. I have no choice, I have to function.

Thanks again - I really do appreciate you answering my post. I don't post here much but I have learned a lot from reading about others' experiences. It's amazing how similar our stories are!

Take care!
