Hey everyone,
I am very very nervous about today, i am getting my picc line put in at 10:30am.

Are there any things that i should know about this picc line?

I am also real nervous about the herx reaction that i could possibly have.

i hope i dont get really sick. I am a very nervous person so i will be taking a zanax today to calm me down.

I am going on to rocefin 2mgs a day, i was wondering if anyone has had good success with this antibiotic or not.

I will also be on zithromax 250 mgs oral every other day. This treatment will be 56 days long.

I need some support and encouragement, and i also need some information as well.

I will hopefully be back after my appointment, depending on how i feel i guess.

Hope to hear from everyone with information on this.

Korinne

Hi Korinne. I will sure be thinking of you. Wish this had been in the medical forum, this one doesn't get as much "traffic" so fewer responses, 'specially early a.m.! The Xanax oughta take the edge off things. I hope it goes very smoothly for you. Might be in the same boat myself in a coupla weeks. Please do post later if you feel up to it and let us know how it went, 'kay?

Sending a hug..

Michelle M.

Hey Korinne,
It'll be fine, really, I've done this. Drink some fluids and you're good to go. It'll be over before you know it.

Please write and tell us how it went. as soona s you get back. heehee! I'm that sure you'll be fine.

As for the rocephin, don't worry about it. Yes, you'll feel worse after a little while but will come out the other end. You can do this.

Very Important! You have to buy some acidophilus and start taking it, to keep good bacteria in your body. Or eat some unsweetend yogurt if you have some.

If not send someone out to the store for the acidophilus, the refrigerated brands are usually better. But anything will help.

Oh, one more thing, definately post in the medical forum, when you get back. Lots of people will see it and all want to help. And we want picc line and first dose updates. (((((((big hugs))))))

Heya everyone!!

Well everything went really great! The picc-line hurt like hell but that is okay!

The vein they tried putting it in first time had a valve in it so they had to stick me again on the OTHER arm yuck, man that was painful.

took about an hour for the infusion of the antibiotic, made me nervous because i was thinking i was going to have an allergic reaction which i didnt.

I am extremely tired right now from taking the zanax an hour before the picc-line and then an hour after lol so i got a nice 1.0 mgs of zanax in my system.

I want to stay as calm as possible even though im extremely stoned right now.

Anywho, i picked up my acidophlous on the way home along with the multi-vitiman and the B-complex. Took them when i got home.

Know whats weird, other then the weak muscles and the fatigue, i feel like so much better right now. Dunno if the antibiotics can work that qickly? but i wasnt dizzy and my brain fog seemed to let up a little....

Is this possible?

Well im going to hit the sack because i am SOOOOO tired right now. I'll be back later to see if i got any responses. I hope i do thank you for replying everyone! it means a lot.

Huggs and kissez

Korinne

So glad it went so well!

I have felt that IV and some high pawered ABX have knocked down some of my bacterial load immediately as you describe. It is possible in my mind, I know it has happened with me.

You have not mentioned taking ACTIGALL. Are you going to take it? It will help prevent gallstones which occur frequently GREQUENTLY with IV Rocephin.

My herx was horrendous on IV rocephin, but I also think that it knocked out MASSIVE amounts of the spirochetes, because I got better and better after that.

Take care and ask your doc asap about the gallbladder issue.

Good job there.IV can pack a punch somedays,so just kick back and have lots to do around you, phone,CD player, books, mags,tv remote.SLEEP,just listen to your body,it will tell you what to do.

Most of all, take good care of YOU,rest, sleep, time to heal and you will.

Keep it really clean, maybe get a cover so you can shower.I will try to find the source or put a help post for it on here. Some one knows where to order these things.

Best wishes to you, sounds like you are on the road to healing.YEAH!!!!

Yay, Korinne! Big Hugs!
I'm so glad to hear you're on your way.

The picc site hurts worst the first 24 hours after that it starts feeling better.

Hey, they just stuck holes in you! By the end of the week it should be pretty much healed. I heal slow and that's how it was for me.

It's possible you feel better after the infusion. I usually do, even when I'm herxing, I get a little good for a while.

As for showering as mentioned above I don't know where you get any of the things to cover it.

I used a folded rectangle(a few layers think) of saran wrap and waterproof tape (the plastic kind without holes in it). I just taped all around it and tried to keep it dry as possible.

It worked really well. I can't remember the name of the tape, I'll see if I can find it and let you know. Unless you find something else before them.

Congrats on your new picc line.

Korinne, I'm so glad to check in on you and find out you got through it! Sounds like it wasn't the most fun you've had lately but do-able, anyway. Going to be an ow-ie for a while, sounds like. But think of all those nasty little Bb's taking a dive! That should help. I hope some pain relief/cold compresses or whatever the doctor ordered will be helpful for the first few days.

In a couple of weeks you can be "holding my hand" in a cyber-fashion as I'm marching down the PICC-line myself.

Hang in there and hope it goes good for you.

Hugs,

Michelle M.

Good morning everyone....

Woke up early this morning because i went to sleep early last night, was very tired. Is that a herx or maybe from all the drugs i took yesterday LOL!

i cant belive how good i feel right now and i dont know if it is all in my head or what. But i hope it isnt in my head

my picc-line doesn't hurt as bad as it did yesterday which is a great thing hehe.

For some reason it felt as though my brian fog went away yesterday its real weird.

I am going to the doctos today to get my second dose of antibiotics...i have to go for the first 3 days so they are sure im not going to have an allergic reaction.

If i was going to have an allergic reaction i would have already right? with the first dose of antibiotics...

I went to the store with my mom yesterday and we got my vitimans and my acidopilous and also some fruits like strawberries and blueberries and bananna's ect.. also lots and lots of yogurt..

i have to eat healthier now.

Is it possible for me to make a good recovery, im sure ive only had the disease for 2 years.. hmm.

Well im going to go now, hope to hear from everyone soon.

Thanks for all the huggs and support it makes me smile

Love always

Korinne

About the Actigall...where do i get it? Gallbladder disease runs in my family and ive been getting little pains in my side since yesterday...could that be even possible?

I don't know what ATIGALL is but bring that and the gall bladder stuff up to the doctor(or nurse) when you go for your infusion, today.

My family also has a lot of gallbladder disease and despite taking rocephin I'm the only one not to have mine removed. Heh, go figure.

I don't know if it could have an effect that quickly if it was going to. It maybe pains in the side are not that. Do ask though.

Hopefully someone whould be along that knows more shortly.

Good morning! What great news that it's already feeling better than it did yesterday. That makes me feel very encouraged!

I think if you were gonna have an allergic reaction it would've happened by now..but you could still have some herx'ing to do yet!

Good for you for getting with the healthy diet thing. Your body will appreciate it.

I think it's possible with IV antibiotics to make a good recovery -- you are saturating your system with antibiotics! Keep thinking positively - that's a lot of the battle.

Keep us posted & hang in there!!

Acigall is the name for Ursadiol. It is prescription only. Most, if not, ALL LLMDs now prescribe actigall to those on IV rocephin. You must talk to your LLMD right away and get this medication. You can do a search for threads about gallbladder and rocephin on this site or others.
This quote was taken from Dr. Burascano's treatment guidelines on ILADS website.

"When choosing a third generation cephalosporin, there are several points to remember: Ceftriaxone has 95% biliary excretion and can crystallize in the biliary tree with resultant colic and possible cholecystitis. GI excretion results in a large impact on gut flora. Biliary and superinfection problems with ceftriaxone can be lessened if this drug is given in interrupted courses, such as three to five days in a row each week. More recently, chenodeoxycholic acid, used to dissolve gallstones, is being prescribed along with ceftriaxone as prophylaxis.

Cefotaxime is less convenient to administer because of the need for either multiple daily doses or continuous infusions, but as it has only 5% biliary excretion, it never causes biliary concretions, and may have less impact on gut flora. It is the experience of some clinicians that cefotaxime can be even more efficacious if given as a continuous infusion, rather than in interrupted doses."

Hope this is helpful, glad you are feeling better,
Trails
