I know many of these are not into this, so just skip it. This is for those who may be interested.

These retreats are held in silence. There is tremendous support from teachers who teach you how to work with chronic pain and the fears chronic illness brings up.

They make accomodations -- sitting in chairs, mving around when the pain gets too much, chosing to take a bath instead of going to a sit because that is what your body needs.

They have mobility scooters at spirit rock.

I am going to the two in January -- meditation for scientists, and METTA (lovingkindess). These experiences have transformed my relationship to my boyd and it illness.

The website to check out is: www.spiritrock.org

Their sister east coast center is www.dharma.org

There is not a lot of "religion" in these. So no worry. They just present techniques that help us in coping with our diffifcult lives.

hey JeffM,

i am happy you are going to go to a retreat like this.

i have only been able to go to brief ones, a day or so, but love meditation (not practiced perfectly) and get so much out of reading and listening to tapes, as well.

love steven levine and his tape "exploring sacred emptiness." i have read a few of his books. listening to lots of his tapes. had the priviledge of teaching meditation about ten years ago to previously homeless men in early stages of recovery from alcohol and drugs.

be well
