Tuesday begins the Walk Against Lyme Disease. Woo-hoo! [woohoo]

I am excited about all the happenings that are moving us toward better diagnosis, treatment, and coverage for treatment. Here are just a few
things...

MAINE: We recently had a hearing on a bill proposal that will allow for Mainers to be treated for Lyme, long-term and short-term, in-state doctors or out. Nearly 80 people attended, some 40 spoke, and blew the minds of committee members!

MASSACHUSETTS: They are proposing a bill that will create a Massachusetts Center for Lyme Disease Research and, like Maine, mandate educating the state's teachers about Lyme.

NEW YORK: The Lyme and Tick-Borne Diseases Research Center will open at Columbia University, the first endowed research center in the country to devote itself to Lyme, especially chronic Lyme.

My thanks to all who have helped make this a reality.

But the fight is not over. There are still the IDSA and the medical boards to overcome. To remind ourselves of what we are fighting for, please take a few minutes to view the trailer for the upcoming documentary, "Under Our Skin," which you can find at:

Okay, walkers, we still have a lot of work to do. To sign up, please go to:

Walk Against Lyme Disease

Walking, for those who cannot. Because I care. And because I am angry.

Shaz (incidentally our dog's name - short for Belshazzar)
I have posted your notice on all the state yahoo groups. I hope you have some response. I am not too hopeful because so far most are not very active and there are many silent participants, but you never know when your activity will strike a chord and turn someone on to activism.

Now down to 2 days before we begin! Double woo-hoo! [woohoo] [woohoo]

Step 1.) Form teams of 4. They may be from your family or town, or anywhere in the world. Designate a team captain. If you can't find 4 people, do step #2, and we can assign you to a team.

Step 2.) Join the Walk Against Lyme Disease Yahoogroup at:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/WalkAgainstLymeDisease/
or email the moderator at
[email protected]
to join. The rest of the details are there.

Then...get walking! Report to your team captain at the end of each week how many miles you walked. (Yes, we know many of you are battling Lyme, and don't walk very far. Last year, I think the average was about 5 miles a week.)

Come back to the website and post about your walk. Did you go anywhere cool? Meet anyone interesting? Learn something profound? We want to know -- it spurs us on!

At the end of the month, we will count up the miles walked. The losing team must pay $100 ($25 each) to a Lyme charity. If you gained other pledges or donations, mail them in.

That's it!

Fun, huh? [Big Grin]

Walkies,
Shaz

Starts tomorrow! TRIPLE woohoo!
[woohoo] [woohoo] [woohoo]
(It doesn't take much to entertain me, does it?)

We currently have enough for 5 teams, yay!

Wanna make it 6?

Sit, Shazzy, sit! Stay...stay...good girl. Now...walkies!

[Big Grin]
Shaz
