Having Lyme disease is like being a paraplegic trying to claw your way up a flight of stairs. It takes all your strength, courage and stamina to make it one step, two, three and maybe four only to have someone kick you back down to the bottom in the pit of pain & confusion. You can't stay in the pit, but climbing the stairs seems futile. You keep on trying only to have it happen over and over again.
Lyme disease is a vicious cycle of pain, agony and despair with a glimmer of hope here and there or is that an on-coming train!

having lyme disease is endless RED TAPE; not green representing our lyme!
. keeping track of every dr. we see and getting copies of their medical dictation for each one;
. losing our jobs and applying for SSI and/or SSDI, disability insurance benefits, which took me 5 years of hell to get!
. watching my lyme friends go bankrupt losing their homes and everything they own in order to go to LLMDs and take the proper lyme treatment to hopefully put them into REMISSION.
. eventually going on title 19, etc.
yes, chronic lyme has robbed me of my life 37 years ago, and I WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT TYPE OF PERSON I MIGHT HAVE TURNED OUT TO BE MINUS LYME SPIROCHETES INVADING MY ENTIRE BODY!

It is like a bad Fellini flick with over tones of One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest. It never ends... Robin Williams plays the part of the 3 mean shrinks and 4 MDs that give you Prozac and tranqs.
They will not try to correctly diagnose you even when you keep telling them you had a bulls eye rash with horrible flu like symptoms and the first anxiety and panic attacks of your life but they do offer you stronger sleeping pills and ask you why you are not married like that has something to do with it.
Lets not forget the part of the Big Nurse that is played by the psycho homeopath/NP from hell dying to toss her control issues and wrath on her paying patients.
This movie is rated out and out scary!

Being the mother of a lyme daughter, I can only describe what I see as an observer.
Her body is a contaminated pitre dish...a combination of Alien and the Excorcist.
It's a robber of life, a raper, a violater.
If it could stand in front of me, I would spit on it, then kill it, and kill it, and kill it.
This is worse than cancer. There is hope with cancer. There is validation with cancer. Sympathy and support with cancer. Compassion with cancer. A time limit with cancer.
I don't wish cancer on anyone, but this is like being suspended by string and safety pins.

Having the life slowly drained out of you while being beaten with sticks and burned with embers. It is like feeling that you are dieing and just slow enough to make you hope it would just happen quick and be over with.
It is not bad enough to take away your ability to see the good in life, but bad enough to where you can not be apart of it.

Having Lyme disease is realizing that you are not going to experience paradise here on earth. You thought you had. . . then find out that the paradise (open space parks here in Northern CA) you thought you'd finally found is making you sick. You go into "paradise" and get bit by a tick, which gives you this disease which means you can see paradise from your window, drive by it in your car, but can never get out and partake again. Not in this lifetime.
It made me wonder, and perhaps have great hope? that my paradise will really be in heaven. A place outdoors to hike, and roll around in the meadows full of wild flowers watching the cows munch on the tall grass with the red tailed hawks circling the blue blue sky above, KNOWING THAT THIS WILL NOT LEAVE ME WITH A DISEASE THAT CANNOT cannot, will not, be taken seriously, be treated by a doctor that will take my insurance, be acknowledged as a "real disease" by my family and friends, and be *cured*.
Lyme made me consider that God really did mean that heaven will be my paradise after all.

Waking up, with yr hand's, and leg's, hand-cuff'ed to the bed post's,and having to watch every one else get to get out of bed.
And have a life of fun, and joy playing with the grand kid's,and getting to go fishing.
But, NO,Yr just hand-cuff'ed to the bed-post's, watching everyone else get to have a life.......!
It's bad enought to have most of yr part's, missing, or broaken, and then to be hand-cuffed to the Bed-Post's too...?

What I often say when I wake up: It's like a bulldozer ran over me, backed up, and ran over me again. Or like someone beat me all over with a baseball bat in my sleep.
It's also like being a stroke patient:
"Uh...put it on the....uh...um...ya know...round thing...four legs...oh...TABLE!"
It's like having amnesia. It's so embarrassing when I'm at a register signing a receipt and I can't remember how to spell my last name.
It's like being punished, having to go to bed early in the summertime when you hear all the rest of the kids outside playing.
It's like being on trial for a crime you didn't commit.
It's when people don't trust you anymore because you don't look sick and they don't believe you could be too debilitated to go out at all when you were out, and even looking energetic, just yesterday.
On a positive note, it's helped me "be here now" more.

Having Lyme Disease is like feeling what it must be like to be 120 years old -- frail, weak, can't do anything for yourself, including not being able to keep house or cook dinner, and then the next day feeling like you're a kid again -- with energy and feeling like you may be able to get things done.
It's a huge roller coaster ride.

Just thought you would like to know that I made a display with three poster boards. The first board saying: HAVING The second board saying: LYME The third saying: IS LIKE.....
I surrounded them with a collage of the quotes, each with its own colored background and font to set it apart. It made a very nice display. I took pictures and if I find a way to post them somewhere I will.
