Okay, so my husband won't really let us get a fake Christmas tree. I've told him for weeks how I'm not going to like a real one and I'm going to be paranoid the entire time it's in our house. This doesn't seem to stop him from wanting one, especially since he had a live Christmas tree every Christmas. He plans on getting one THIS weekend -- tonight or tomorrow.
So what should I look for with a live Christmas tree? Is there a way to KNOW if it's clean or not? Is there a way to make myself less paranoid while it's in the house???
My husband said we'd ask the sellers if they used pesticides on it to kill all the bugs, etc.
Augh... Just don't know what to do. I guess me being paranoid and worried all holiday season doesn't bother my husband. He's so loving and caring otherwise. Just that I guess he doesn't think the live tree thing is something to worry about really.

I am sorry I can't remember if you have some breathing issue due to the lyme.
I get short of breath now from the babs and i know if I had a live tree this would not be good for my breathing... if they sprayed chemicals on it probaly even worse.
We always had to have a fake tree cuz when I was young I had allergies. So I really have no advice on which kind is best.
- Just a thought. people seem to respond more if their is a physical threat to someone's health. like if all its going to do is make you worry doesnt necessarily get someone to change their mind...
but since breathing is quite essentail and can be a very visible symptom it might be more likely to change his mind.

Shortness of breath used to be bad for me, but it has gotten much better. So I don't think I could use that, sadly.

below is my personal story of how i was bitten from my folk's live xmas tree 38 years ago; read both links well ok! GOOD LUCK!
The only explanation I have for pulling a live tiny tick off my scalp eight years ago (in RI, in January)is the live Chistmas tree we had. The one I crawled under to unplug the lights every night!
I would not allow one in my house. That tick brought 8 years of misery that is not over -- yet.

Artificial trees have come a long way over the years. I vote for one hands down!!
It beats not having one at all!!!
We don't have room for one, and since we spend Christmas in Texas with relatives, I don't worry about it.

Thanks everyone for your comments, my husband finally agreed to an artificial and we went out and bought one tonight.
It's up and has lights on it now and everything.

Not only has he reduced MUCH stress for you.. warrented or not due to his beliefs... but he has saved a tree!!!
And he will save many more... and much money over the next few years too!
Bless his little pea picking heart.
Birds will be happier, animals will find shelter, the air will be cleaner, the soil will be more stable and the beauty of the country side will remain more in tact each time someone saves a tree.
