So, I must say i love the term 'duck' used to describe the close minded people who managed to obtain a medical degree.

Anyone interested in a shirt that says something along the lines of

"Don't be a victim to a bad duck"

with a picture of a duck dressed like a dr..

Insert Lyme awareness comment here.

Anyway, just wondering.

if enough people are interested, I could get a whole bunch made

[Smile]

Hope everyone is on the upside today [Smile]

Actually, I HATE the word 'duck". I just think it makes us look stupid, that we have to find a childish nickname for doctors who are not "in the know."

Sorry to be adversarial, but you totally hit on my biggest pet peeve here. I find it so very offensive that any physician who isn't an LLMD is referred to as a "duck."

Personally, I have and have had MANY wonderful doctors who just didn't know enough about Lyme, but wanted to learn.

A doctor who just doesn't know shouldnt' be ridiculed, they should be educated.

And doctors who refuse to believe the truth, deserve to be called what they really are, not some childish name that makes us all look like numbskulls.

Incompetent, ignorant, fraudulent, mercenary, dishonest....

I HATE the word "duck." I think it just makes us look like imbeciles, and I for one wish everyone would stop using it.

It almost feels prejudicial to me, like making a sweeping generalization of any doctor who isn't part of ILADS should be referred to in an offensive manner....feels on par to other racial and homophobic slang terms to me.

Okay, I said my piece. I'm sure most people will disagree with me, I just think we need to present ourselves in a more mature, intelligent manner.

I used to call them ID's for Inept Doctor or Infection Disease expert...in my case they were one in the same.

Not so keen on the duck idea, but I could definitely

go for an LD awareness t-shirt.

Maybe something with a more positive spin - like

"We [heart] ILADS" or something

or a circle with IDSA inside with a slash through it .... well, that's not so positive I suppose

BTW, Future - were you in NYC at the "Under Our Skin" Premiere?

I have one that reads "Ticked off about Lyme Disease!"

But I'm a bad girl, and don't wear it much. I should!!!

I love LD shirts!

Have the "Ticks suck... and give you LD" from CALDA, and another one that says "Caution: Herxheimer Reaction in Progress" to wear on the bad days.

Cafepress has some, and they'll make a design for you too. (I have no interest in that company other than having ordered some of their shirts & stickers.)

How about staying with the DUCK theme with a different spin. On the front of the T-Shirt you have an arrogant looking doctor with a holster of syringes, prescription drugs, what ever. He is leashed by the FDA, AMA, insurance companies, and big Pharma.

One more item on the front of the shirt is the doctors priority.

First: Satisfy the insurance companies
Second: Don't get in trouble with medical community
Third: Make sure all solutions are approved by big pharma
Fourth: Find ways to increase salary
Fifth: Make sure you don't get sued
Sixth: The patient if there is enough time

On the back of the t-shirt is DUCK vertically in bold letters as follows:

Doctor
Under
Corporate
Keep

Now we can have our duck and eat it too. Oooops that's not cake, "my bad".

So the tenet of the shirt isn't to use a cartoonish view of doctors. But a far more sinister one. I too like the term DUCK for doctors who've earned the distinction, it also really helps to demonstrate their role in medicine.

Also, I would put CFS, Fibromyalgia, Morgellons, Lyme or any other chronic illness, because they all relate. I guess we could widen the audience.

Personally, I like the term "duck" [lol]

Anyone see the MISS DIAGNOSED T-shirts? I love those but I suppose guys should not wear them [shake]

I call the many docs I've seen in the past UMD's = uneducated medical doctors. Yep, that's what they are.

Doctor Under Corporate Keep!!! YES!!!

Gert.. what else does the shirt say? Is that it?

I too love the DUCK moniker....

It does not lay blame on the WHOLE Medical Community, but on those who would ridicule, debase, insult and demean anyone who thinks they could possibly be ill with lyme disease.

Quack, quack, quack!!! Ducks!

That is the nicest word I know to call them... and the easiest to spell!

well, i like the term duck. the one llmd i went to was an irrogant jerk. so since i can't use the more colorful terms here, "duck" is the cleanest thing i would call him.

yep, duck works for me...

but my primary is a keeper and cute too, so is my gastro and ob/gyn....
