Recap of week 36 (I think I have this wrong. It seemed like we were past this and into months now)
Numbers and my brain are still not working yet.

Akinwolf

On Wednesday-Me and Rocky another 3! Then had family come over for movie/chili night. So wore out though looks like no walking today.

Hey everyone, happy fourth. Will be busy tomorrow so probably no walking but will be having fun!!!

Andie:

Looking forward to when you can get out and go for walks again. MIss you.

Bob:

How are you doing? Busy summer?

Cathy

July 1: Back from seeing Dr. R yesterday. Since he's in the city, I did get in some slow motion walking. I was dropped out in front of the office when getting there, but walked the four blocks back to the parking garage, so hey....can that count for some walking.

Appointment went well. Going to go the port route and right now I'm in waiting mode as he sees about insurance approval to get it in and then I guess the insurance battles can start, but atleast I should be on the right path, even if much is out of pocket.

(Good Luck. Sure hope all goes well and it helps)

Don [confused]

Larkspur:

MTree

Not a very good walking week....had a little set back....

Sunday....1.75miles up at the beach....
Monday..... ...planting flowers with an uninvited guest...a spider....

The rest of the week I was out of commission for walking.....hip problems...and my Chiropractor is on vacation till the 9th

Lou B

I know you were working on the site very early this am. How is the exercise program going?

Walked 2.21 miles today - it is going to be a better week - I can tell!

BTW - mtree asked what my above collage was made of - it's 100% paper [Smile]

Can I join you guys? I have had a major herx the past 2 months or so, so working out has been kinda out of the question.

So what are the "rules?" [Smile]

Posted by kam (Member # 3410) on :

knshore,

We are all just trying to get well. Exercising is one piece of that puzzle.

Just do what you can when you can.

It just seems to help us keep going by having this thread.

Welcome. Jump on in. The water is fine. :0 [hi]

Hey....I got a 10 minute walk in today. Been feeling so darn drugged from these meds and not knowing which end is up, but I woke up today like it was lifting.

Too bad I have to add two more meds to what I'm on tomorrow. Just was getting out of this hole.

Also suppose to be hearing back from Dr. R's office about a port scheduling early this week. But for now, TEN MINUTES.

I know, I know...not much but considering I've been doing no more than the bathroom and back, this was improvement.

Sun pm: 5 min in, rest on rock, 5 min out

It was not a clear walk. Trouble with vision, focus, processing, seemed like the woods were moving or I was moving or something.

Ran into a pre schooler this evening at dog park. She was a much sharper cookie than I am. She noticed that her dog was named Daisy and my dog was named Rosie. They were the same. My mind is stuck..I know I dont' have a clue what she is talking about.

Then she says they are both named after flowers. My mind got unstuck but then I got sad.

This is so sad when the brain is so disfunctional.

Car stopped several times. I think it is just the timing. Hoping it is an easy and inexpensive fix and I can get it fixed this week.

Posted by Larkspur (Member # 5131) on :

Sorry to hear you were feeling sad Kam...

Sounds like you are trying with all your might every day

BTW - If you feel like it, I would be happy to give you some "mental" exercises to help with cognitive skills like categorization

In my "old life/job" I used to work with individuals with cognitive problems - believe it or not [Eek!]

Until I started getting some of my own [Roll Eyes]

Also - go Cathy! 10 min is 10 minutes - you've got to start where you are.

Posted by tdtid (Member # 10276) on :

Kam,

Sorry about your brain confussion. I know how darn frustrating it is when a young child can say something to us that in our healthier days would make so much sense and yet we stare with that blank stare look.

Please don't be sad. It was obvious the girl felt a bond with you because you both had flower named dogs and wanted to share with you what she figured out. I bet she came home and told her family about Rosie. So you touched a life. Glass half full, sweetie. You have drilled that in to me so many times!

Abby,

Thanks again for your support. I know I'm feeling like I went many steps backwards with all this, but hey.....this whole disease feels like a darn roller coaster of ups and downs so you would think we would get use to it. Just don't appear to.

But seriously...thanks for the positive vibes. Hope you are holding up alright with your bicillin shots.

Cathy

Cathy, I am with larspur..10 min is 10 min. [Smile]

And yes larkspur..I am looking for something to help with the cognitive issues.

It seems I have times when I am very clear and don't understand those other times at all.

But, most of the time I am in lala land waiting for the clearer moments.

Posted by tdtid (Member # 10276) on :

Kam,

With so many of ALL of the various symptoms with lyme, they come and go. I can be up one moment and totally on the ground the next. Same goes with the mind.

Sometimes, it actually feels like it's coming back. Other times, I KNOW I'm not "there". It's so darn frustrating. Take steps forwards then backwards and it keeps going like this over and over and over. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I am so darn sore today, especially in the hips. Can't believe it would be from a silly walk, so wondering if it's the new meds. Sure with the dr's would call. I'm on pins and needles.

Cathy

Posted by kam (Member # 3410) on :

Cathy, It is good to be reminded we are not alone in this and others are going through this too.

It does get so frustrating and difficult to figure out what we can do and when and what we can't do and when.

Even Rosie has been getting on my nerves lately. She does nothing to deserve this. I know it is just the chronic condition and all the things that go along with it.

Mon am: 2 hour outing. It helped my mood some to get out. WAter therapy via the senior van. Then needed an attitude adjustment so thought getting out would help.

Cruised the back roads in my power chair from physical therapy place to home.

Also able to stop and get quarters from the bank for the laundry.

STopped at feedstore and get some more samples to wean Rosie off of a certain food I had been mixing with her food while I waited for the larger bag to arrive.

Hmm I'll post some ideas for getting brains moving later when I have more energy.

sleepy day today - no walking, but I did start cleaning the house today for about an hour or so.

Yuck! I actually had a blast because I could do it, yuck because it's been a while.

but I did start light weights and yoga yesterday, so I'll add that..

Posted by kam (Member # 3410) on :

Larkspur...glad you were able to do some household chores and the yoga and light weights.

I ordered a children's magazine awhile back to see if I can do the activities in it in order to help the brain. We shall see.

Don't even recall what I ordered now. I have all this teaching stuff on my shelves but can't seem to find something to that works for me either.

I could not do the paper art you do at this point.

Back to moving the body or getting out ...

Tues am: 20 min outing in power chair
Rest, then 30 min outing..errand.

Body is hurting this am and mobility is nil. I think it is from water therapy and being out for 2 hours yesterday morning.

Mon pm: put some dishes away est 5 min on feet
Tues afternoon: 20 min pc outing

Sorry you are having so much trouble Kam

In my old life I worked as a Speech Language Pathologist in adult Rehab and a big part of what I did was helping people improve their cognition and/or compensate after stroke,

brain injury, degenerative disease etc. so I have a lot of knowledge about this I am not using

I am toying with the idea of starting a blog (I already have one primarily r/t to my art and my life)

Since I already have one, it would take 2 sec to start another one

I thought maybe I'd call it "Lymebrain" and then I could pass on some knowledge about what people could do to help with the fogginess from Lyme (which depends on many factors) or info about to help manage it...

In my case, I think my cognitive problems are primarily r/t attention.

And I do absolutely nothing to try to improve it! I definitely don't practice what I preach [Big Grin]

Posted by kam (Member # 3410) on :

larkspur,

what is r/t?

And I think a blog or thread here would be good.

I know i have improved as far as cognitive function.

But, it would be good if I were able to see that improvement some how.

The brain is talking to the limbs now for the most part. I still need a lot of down time or that does not happen. Foreced down time. Not because I want to be. But, because my body and brain are forcing me to veg.

I think exercising the brain would go hand in hand with exercising the body.

I was going down the list here and responded to the first note in this "walking" topic and realized it was from last week, so going to respond to this to bring this one up to be on top of the other.

In my brain fog, I didn't notice the dates were later.

Feel better Kam!

Cathy

I understand Cathy. [Smile]

I tried putting a new picture at the beginning of the new week...but that doesn't always work either...especially in the fog. [Smile]

Kam - r/t is "related to"

Tuesday - 2 miles, light yoga for me

Hope everyone is feeling good today:)

Sunday-Me and Rocky 3 miles and picked blackberries. When I got home took a shower and found a TICK attached to underarm. Removed it promptly and have a small bump there.

Thank God no bull's eye.

Wednesday-Me and Rocky 3 miles. Feel like I sweated buckets. Also took a fall due to a sweet gum seed?/ball? thingy. Twisted right ankle and landed on hands and knees.

Am hoping nothing is too injured especially the recovered right arm.

Felt like a klutz!!! Fell right when someone drove by. Course they didn't stop to see if I was ok. You know how people can be nowadays.

And I agree with folks....10 minutes is 10 minutes. Better than not getting out at all. I've many of those days.

Later all.

Lone wolf... Many here [myself included] NEVER had a bullseye. Be watchful!!

IF it were ME, I'd be on abx ASAP... but maybe you're already on them anyway??

Gotta get back in the groove this week!!!

We drove 12 hours yesterday, and I'm wasted today. So I hope to walk a mile or so tomorrow. We've been getting a lot of rain here.

My husband and I are so pleased that we carried the rain down to drought stricken South Texas! [Cool]

It rained about 3 inches at my father in law's last week and they've only had about 7 inches of rain all year. [now 10] His cattle are loving the new green grass!

It rained here the whole time we were gone and it's still raining. Anybody have a water shut-off valve somewhere?? [bonk]

Posted by kam (Member # 3410) on :

Sounds like you are back home now. Yes? Glad you had a safe trip.

Wed pm: 40 min est outing in pc
one load of laundry
resting then will try to put away
able to put dishes in dw today
resting
then will try to take them out

Brain still struggles with this stuff and I still need to keep it down to 5 or 10 min. But, glad when I am able to do a little. It helps.

Thurs am: 10 min walk in woods.

I was pretty out of it but able to do it. hard to figure the body out at times. I pushed through it this am and did OK.

but, at one point thought I was going to need to stop and rest at teh rock area. Tough call what to do...as sitting upright also exhausts me.

This listening to the body is very tricky.

FROM a Dr. Mercola email. I have not read it myself. Just scanned it. Hope to come back here and read it.

If you want to get in on one of the ``hottest'' trends for your health, take a break from your day and spend some time out in the sunshine. This simple action reduces your risk for so many diseases, I believe it is criminal for physicians not to recommend it.

To get the benefits of the sun, you need to expose a significant portion of your skin (shorts and no shirt for men, and shorts and a sports bra or short tank for women) to the sun for anywhere from 15 minutes to two hours a day. The length depends on your skin color (the darker your skin, the longer you need), how close you are to the equator, and the weather that day (if it's cloudy, for instance).

My new book, Dark Deception, is coming out shortly and contains all the details you need to keep your vitamin D levels in a healthy range. But in the meantime you can check out my Sunshine Special Report to get the basics down.

Did You Know That Sun Exposure Actually Prevents Cancer?

The study above is the second in a matter of weeks showing the importance of vitamin D for your heart. But vitamin D is also emerging as a potent cancer fighter.

Last year, a groundbreaking study found that 600,000 cases of cancer could be prevented every year just by increasing your levels of vitamin D. Even beyond cancer, the researchers pointed out that increasing levels of vitamin D3 could prevent diseases that claim nearly 1 million lives throughout the world each year!

Why did you not hear about this amazing discovery?

Because large corporations can't make any money from you getting out in the sun.

So now's your chance to listen up. Optimizing your vitamin D levels could help you to prevent as many as 16 different types of cancer including pancreatic, lung, breast, ovarian, prostate, and colon cancers.

Further, optimal vitamin D levels are also known to positively influence the following conditions:

Heart disease

Diabetes

Inflammatory bowel disease

Rheumatoid arthritis

Multiple sclerosis and osteoporosis

This is One Blood Test I Recommend for Everyone

Because the benefits of optimizing your vitamin D levels are so profound, I urge everyone to get their levels tested. There is more than one vitamin D test, so be sure to ask for the 25(OH)D test, also called 25-hydroxyvitamin D.

When you get your results, ignore the ``normal'' guidelines the lab sends. Instead, the OPTIMAL value that you're looking for is 45-52 ng/ml (115-128 nmol/l).

Sunlight exposure (without getting burned) is always the best option to increase your vitamin D levels. For the winter months or other times when you simply can't get outside, a vitamin D3 supplement can be used. If you go this latter route, be sure to monitor your vitamin D levels to avoid overdosing.

One final note, when you go outside to get your vitamin D make sure you don't have sunscreen on. By its very nature, sunscreen blocks your body's production of vitamin D. If you're spending a long time outdoors, I recommend going for the first portion without any sunscreen, then covering up afterward with clothing, or applying a natural, non-toxic sunscreen, to avoid getting burned.

Sunlight Can Cut Your Risk of Death in Half

Having low vitamin D levels has been linked with deaths from heart disease and other causes, adding to growing evidence about the "sunshine" vitamin's role in good health.

People with the lowest blood levels of vitamin D were about two times more likely to die from any cause during an eight-year period than those with the highest levels. The link with heart-related deaths was particularly strong in those with low vitamin D levels.

The study involved over 3,000 men and women in southwest Germany. Participants were aged 62 on average, and their vitamin D levels were checked in weekly blood tests.

It's estimated that at least 50 percent of older adults worldwide have low vitamin D levels, and a significant number of younger people may also be affected.

Low vitamin D levels may result from spending less time outdoors, air pollution and a decline in your skin's ability to produce vitamin D from the sun as you age, the researchers said.

I hope it isn't a competition or else I will have the boobie prize without a doubt.

But on a positive note, I got in another 10 minute walk but doing a bit of the spastic thing, so it really would have taken me much less time to get this far in normal conditions.

Wow Cool. Good to see all of you.

I am bushed but will be back to read what you wrote.

Thurs pm: 10 min walk in woods

Concerned about car not starting for me if it stopped. But, it did OK.

I was able to do some brain storming. Decided if it would not start while I was out there, I would wait until someone came along and hope they had a cell phone to call AAA.

If no one came along, then I had a sleeping bag in the back and would catch someone in the morning crowd. Or perhaps the car would start.

That is how desperate I was to get out and walk 10 min in the woods.

On the down side, had trouble getting Rosie in the car. She has started this thing about running along side of the car and will not get in until she is worn out...about 20 min of running.

it is OK I guess. I don't like it. But, as long as other cars do not come along we are OK on that part of the road.

I think I need to find a more open road with no cars at all if she is going to do this or get well enough I can walk further with her.

Or find a way to get out there in my power chair more.

One car came out that way while she was running about.

If I just sit and wait for her in the car she keeps me in sight but she runs all around me in a large circle. I will not be able to see her at times but I know she can see me. Caught her kind of playing a game with me in the bushes.

Friday-Me and Rocky 3 miles!!! No falls and don't appear to have any problems from that tick bite on Sunday.

Am not on antibiotics and no longer am seeing an LLMD. Just winging it.

Did take a Levaquin 750 mg. the Monday after the tick bite but felt absolutely nothing. Usually I've gotten pretty sick immediately on orals but had no effect.

Oh, and as to this being a competition, no way!!! Somedays I have really bad fatigue to where all I do is read and watch tv.

So, I might be in competition with Tdtid for the booby prize! LOL!!!

Rosie and I got some outdoor time. Good to get out of the house.

Went to what I call the Healing Ranch and sat by the front gate while Rosie explored.

I walked a little while there. Beautiful view.

Lots of cars coming in and off road vehicles. It was getting to crowded for me.

Also saw a large group walking up the wash. Great day for a hike.
