Well, it is the start of another week. Karen -- thanks so much for starting last week's thread. We all appreciate it!

For those of you without pedometers (mine is still among the missing) -- we are keeping track of our progress in steps, which you can track using a pedometer.

I did some research and found that a mile has an average of 2,000 steps. So, for those of you keeping track of your progress in miles, I thought we could credit you with 2,000 steps for every mile. How does that sound?

Using that method, last week we had 1,327 steps plus 12,000 additional steps (thanks to Akin's 6 miles) for a total of 13,327 steps. There were problems connecting to the website last week, so it is not a true reflection of what we actually did.

Our club members are Kam & Rosie, LouLou, Karen & Miss Pris, Cathy & Montana, Akin & Rocky, Andie, Ali, and Tutu (welcome back, Tutu!) Also, we gained two new members last week -- Astriapage and DaveS -- Welcome to the club!

If you would like to add exercise as part of your healing process, we welcome you to join us. It doesn't matter how much or how little you are able to do. Some of us are exercising regularly, some are struggling to put one foot in front of the other, and a few are in bed and wiggling their toes for exercise. But we welcome you all to join the fun and frustration of exercise.

So . . . I am off to find that pedometer!

I'll have to find a pedometer. Did you all say Walmart had them for pretty cheap or was it Target?

I do mine in miles so I can report to my endocrinologist who just put me on a diet and wants to know how far I walk in miles a week and how often.

So now I have to diet on top of walking and exercising. I'm hoping I'll reap a bunch of health benefits from these changes.

Also I'm trying to get off the pain pills and muscle relaxers I've been on since 2001 when I got hit by a pick-up truck while on a mountain bike.

Had 2 surgeries from that and a recent unrelated elbow surgery but am sick and tired of being on pain pills.

I think it's contributing to my overall feeling of fatique and will find out once I'm off of them for awhile.

I'm hoping that by doing these simple things that it'll boost my energy level and help me to start working out again.

Anyways, that's the plan.

Later gang!!! [Big Grin]

I ordered mine on line from Walmart.

Getting up now to get my pedometer and put it on.

Had a good outing yesterday. The caretaker for the private land took me to see another rock he found where the Indians sat and ground corn.

Interesting and different here than in the Sierras.

The sierras are like holes in the rocks.

Here the two I have seen or completely different.

One is as if they had a rolling pin and the other is ...well can't quite describe it but it is not a round hole in the rock like the sierra ones.

I have been searching the web to learn more and see when the indians were here last and still active.

So far I have only come up with current population of indians in the area.

Next step is to go to local museum when I am able and see what they have there.

I walked 1 and a half miles last week. The weather was GREAT for 2 days....now we're in an ice storm. UGH.

Wow LymeToo....yahoo!

Not about the ice storm of course.

In true lyme fashion I got up to put the pedometer on and totally forgot about it until the evening outing

...after I was on the trail of course.

headed out, noticed I was on empty, turned around, came home and got my purse, headed out again...

Noticed I was doing very well at making a left hand turn at a tricky place. A car coming from one angle, another at another angle...but I was able to handle it.

After the walk though...short one...I was really struggling brain was to get home. Mostly do to fatigue in the brain ....not sleepy stuff...just so exhausted I could not think straight.

Sometimes I can do gas and walk but usually I need to choose one task or the other.

Yeah, kam... Lymenet was down when I finally made it out there to walk. First time in several months and no one to tell!!

I was down for awhile and by the time I was able to check here, Lymenet was down, then I went back down again.

But glad to be back. Still only walking the hallways but nice to see ever one here after the renovation.

Ok....I can sort of get myself on this thread officially. :-)

We are having a snow storm and for some reason, I had this urge to go out and walk in it.

I got Montana (my dog) and walked up the road and around the cul de sac which use to take me 5 minutes in my healthy days.

I just did it in 25, so I'm super super slow, but I did get in the steps.

I have no clue how far it is...not far at all, but this was a huge step for me since I've not been moving around much since starting the IV protocol.

I will get the pedometer out the next time I tackle this and will start tracking it that way.

Gosh, I'm sorry gang but I've got a hectic week. My church is having a grand opening and I'm running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. [dizzy]

Anywho, my dog Rocky is getting kinda whiny so I've got to try and squeeze him in some walking.

I let him out in the morning and he runs around on the back 4 (LOL, wish it was 40), but it's not enough for him.

Hey, I bought a scale for my birthday [bonk] and it came with a free pedometer. It doesn't take in your length of stride but is supposed to work by movement at your waist.

So, I'll give it a try and see how it goes. I wonder how many steps 3 miles is anyways. I've tried to count but alas, can't count and walk at the same time. [loco]

I'll let you all know as soon as I can get out there.

I have totally lost count of what I have been doing. Last week I did my normal routine, plus I went snowshoeing for one mile.

This week the same, minus the snow shoeing. Plus shoveling snow.

I will keep better track next week.

Aklnwlf, LouLou read that a mile is on the average 2000 steps. So your three miles is approximately 6000 steps. Kudos!

I also wanted to say that you are tackling a lot of things right now. Walking, dieting, treatment, and getting off of pain meds. Wow! I would find all of that very difficult.

Good job on going round the cul de sac, Cathy! Hope you didn't have too much pay back from doing it.

Best,
Karen

I keep seeing your posts and reminiscing about how active I used to be.

Before i was married, I'd walk 5 miles about 3 times a week.

I was also avolleyball player and did some hiking and rock climbing.

I did some walking and aerobics in between child 1 and 2, but since then--well, things have been rough physically since my second one came along--I don't do much.

And over the past 7 or 8 months, I've had a hard time even getting up some days, Sometimes going through the grocery store is as much exertion as i get.

I'd love to get back into some kind of activity--maybe I should try dancing to my 80s music. At least it would be something...

*sigh*

I soooo want my life back!

Starfall, if you have children and are up most days, you ARE exercising. You are moving your body. I think you would be amazed if you put a pedometer on how far you actually go each day. I sure was.

Be careful about starting with aerobic exercise if it has been a while. I found that even stretches were a problem if I didn't warm my muscles up first. Now I do them after a hot bath.

It will come, just go slow.

Best,
Karen

Hi Starfall,

I know we all will be able to relate to what you are saying. I was quite involved in step aerobics before I got sick.

I think I liked the social aspect of the group and the instructor but it kept me going. Now I'm bordering on bedridden and sometimes I'm crawling just to get to the bathroom, so we DO understand.

As kgg has said, do not jump back into aerobics of any kind. My doctor stresses that we do not exert ourselves to that degree when on treatment, which is why the walking is so ideal.

Lymetoo.....good job on the walking while Lymenet was down. I will give you belated cheers. RAH RAH RAH Tutu!!!!

Kam, I feel like I've been so out of touch lately. How is Rosie doing. Last I heard, she still wasn't eating well, so I do hope she is out walking and being her old self with you now.

Lou, Hope you find that Pedometer. It really does sound like a great idea. Do you have to have a bit of a bounce in your walk to get it to measure steps? I'm slow slow slow, so wonder if it measures turtle speed with not much motion.

I have misplaced my pedometer...I hope. I hope it did not fall off and I did not notice.

it is so good to have Rosie back to herself.

I lost track of what I did this week too.

I like the idea of doing a little dance. A very little dance.

My free pedometer sucks!!! It seems to measure calories, miles or kilometers and gives a formula for converting to steps which I can't figure.

Here it is for you math whizzes! [Roll Eyes]

How many steps are to be taken to spend 300 cal (60cm/step).

OK, that's their formula and here's the results:

GW(Kg) 40=13400 steps
GW(Kg) 45=11900 steps
GW(Kg) 50=10700 steps
GW(Kg) 55=9700 steps
GW(Kg) 60=8900 steps
GW(Kg) 65=8200 steps
GW(Kg) 70=7700 steps

ETC.....................

So, needless to say, I can't figure it out.

It did measure miles and calories burned. How accurate this is I haven't checked yet with my car's odometer.

But here's what I got today when I walked my 3 miles with Rocky.

2.793 miles 280.7 calories burned

I'll let you all know later if my pedometer is worth it's cost (free) LOL!!!

KGG-Yeah, I agree! I'm tackling alot right now. I'm so ready to move on and improve my life somehow. So I'm making a concerted effort to haul myself out of the slump I'm in.

STARFALL-Don't give up. I went through appr. 3 years of treatment so it took awhile for me to get where I am. I'm not at 100% and probably never will be but I have improved. I've got the fatigue problem too and am doing HGH injections for it.

Yeah for Kam's Rosie!!! [kiss]

I'm so glad Rosie's better. And Kam I agree, dancing sounds like just the thing we need!!!

TUTU-Welcome back!!!! [Big Grin]

Well, gotta run gang. Have an early morning with a full day of church and my nephew's b-day.

See you all next week!!!

[hi]

Thanks for the encouragement.

Lol, I'm glad you all think keeping up with the kids is exercise, because the doctors say that and housework don't count.

We had temps of 55 degrees here today, so I took my older son outside for some play.

We shot baskets and played in the snow, but we weren't inside half an hour before I started feeling achy, having the typical shortness of breath, and getting funny in the eeyes.

I don't know if it's from the activity or if I'm coming down with something.

Nothing!! Just post your exercise and/or walking, etc.

It's just a way to encourage each other.

Found my pedometer. But, my health had a set back Friday night. Still trying to recover and still very weak.

Can't read what others posted at this time.
