My daughter has finally been diagnosised. She has lymes and 2 strains of babesiosis. She also has erhrichiosis and a mycoplasma but has been cured of those.

My daughter has been prescribed Mepron. She is haveing a difficult time getting it down and sometimes keeping it down.

Does anyone have any tricks for taking this medicine?

Thanks in advanced

Hmm. I'm one of the few that doesn't mind the taste of Mepron. I've actually started talkin to it before I swallow it down.

My husband walked in the kitchen the other night and I had a teaspoon of Mepron in my hand and I was like, "I love you. Thanks for making me feel better, although you are really expensive..."

Needless to say he thinks I'm [loco]

I am, but at least I have an excuse LOL!

Back to your question, I really don't know what would help. I would post this over in the Medical section and you're sure to get loads of responses.

I never minded the taste of mepron either.

Maybe take it with milk?

It is supposed to be taken with fatty foods.

Or.....ask your LLMD about malarone.

Hugs,

Im taking Mepron now.... it may sound strange but I take it with heavy cream.....

as soon as I take the Mepron I take some heavy cream... goes down easy, and is a fatty substance!

Oh wait - I did hear of someone who mixed it with yogurt and said it was pretty good. Either that or you could try chocolate or vanilla pudding...

To get around the yucky taste, this is what we do:

First we measure out the medicine using a pediatric oral medicine syringe.

Next we eat a tablespoon of peanut or some other nut butter to coat the mouth, then shoot the medicine down the back of the throat using the oral medicine syringe.

Then we gulp down a glass of milk or enjoy some bacon in the AM, or a dish of ice cream in the evening.

Thanks all for your suggestions. At the moment my daughter is using a medicine dropper that I found in the baby department. It beats the turkey baster she was using. My daughter eats raw cookie dough(without any raw eggs)after the mepron. I am taking the advice of moving on to the medical section.

Thanks all - everyone here is so nice and helpful.
