I am beginning to think I should start with crawlers instead of hikers in the subject line. Lately, I feel like I have been crawling more than hiking!

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I finally got some work done in the garden but still have more to do. And more unpacking to get my MIL settled. That will be about all of my activity this week, plus of course cooking.

Lymetoo, frankly, I am surprised the nurses did not say anything. Now I have been out of the field for a while, but unless you typically run around 100 if I were there I would have been concerned.

KAM, I hope that you are feeling stronger every day!

Kayak, glad that you were able to address your knee pain so quickly. And you got your horse ride in! =)

How is every one else doing? My memory is limited today, so I can't remember what every one else wrote. Please don't be offended. Hope you are all doing well.

Let's have a good week everyone!
Karen

Uh, Karen, I hate to be the one to tell you again.....it's November.

Don't feel bad though, I thought this week was Thanksgiving. Thank goodness someone set me straight.

Had a busy weekend so didn't post my Friday's mileage and workout.

It was the usual 3 miles and 45 minute workout.

Monday-3 miles for me and Rocky and 45 minutes of workout videos.

Really is hard on me cause of my weight but am hoping that will start to go down with the increased activity.

Loved reading everyone's post and will see you all Wednesday.

Karen,

Good to hear you were able to work in the garden. Crawling works for me for the first word. HA!

Akinwolf...glad to hear you are able to do your walks with Rocky and also the work outs.

Getting strong enough I am able to get around the block in the power chair with Rosie about 3 times a day.

wondering when I started the car last and if it is going to be OK sitting there for ? amount of days.

I just don't have the strength to walk to it. Guess I could cruise to it in my power chair and then at least start it up.

Can't drive it yet nor do I want to leave my power chair in the parking lot.

icy out now.

in the 20's in the am.

kgg-where are you? i hang out in wells and york a lot and the horses i ride are in lebanon and nor berwick

got another good ride in today-almost didn't -i have to use this wierd contraption of a mounting block and the horse figured out how to make it impossible to get on. i psyced him out today-but if he doesn't cooperate i won't be able to get on. noone there to help.

i used a mask and so far no wheezing even tho i rode inside the dusty ring. maybe the rain helped in some way.

i plan to ride most days this week but i will have a big change next week.

is rocky a dog? what kind? i feel like hes a shepard.

take care all.

Yes, Rocky is a dog. But for the life of me, I can't remember what kind Aklnwlf said. My brain really is not focused this week!

Miss Pris and I went to the mail. And I have been going up and down the stairs. So much so that my right knee is starting to bother me.

Lpkayak, I am in the northern part of the state. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would end up here, but I love the quiet and lack of people. =) Any time I get homesick for concrete, I head south for the day.

Best,
Karen

A friend drove Rosie and I out to the Eagle's nest this am.

She then set up my reclining camp chair for me.

AT last, Rosie got some off leash time and I got to go further than around the block in the power chair.

Only Tuesday....still hope that I will be able to be on my feet this week. It has been 5 or 6 days now.

Karen....hope you get a break from the stairs soon or at least less use of them.

kayak..good to hear about your ride.

I too can't get my brain to recall what kind of dog Rocky is.

Tuesday-45 minutes of work-out videos.

Karen-Remember to be nice to me when I have one of my moments. [Big Grin]

Kam-Ugh, 20's is cold! It's still in the 60's here.

Kayak-Rocky is a 109 lb. black lab. Oh, and he walks me!

See you all later!

it took me all morning to weigh and measure my buhner herbs and start my tea.

then i went to barn-great day-good start. but when i trotted he was lame.

i know he needs to be shod. ppl just don't have the money to take care of these horses.

i did stay on him the hour at a walk-it was ok for both of us-not great.

then i walked the dog when i got home...maybe i should introduce him-hes a 12 yr old mini-schnauzer named kristopher. he's wobbly behind-probably lower back disk problem...probabl y from lyme. hes been treated at least once a year every year of his life. i used to give him the vaccine...i trusted my vet...but when he was 3 he and his brother both got paralyzed form the waist down for 24 hrs after getting the vaccine. his brother ddied when they were 7.

kris is wobbly but he still wants more walks than i am able to give him. an 82 yr old lady comes by every morning at 9 when i can hardly move from arthritis pain and takes him for an hour walk. then at noon i take him for a short (like 5 min-just enough time to pee)walk before i go to the barn . when when i come home i take him around the block-usually 20 min or so

on days i don't ride we go to the beach where there is a big empty parking lot (except july and august) and i drive around the wrong way with him leading me on the leash. he loves it.

he gets 1/2 an aspirin and 1/2 a cosamine everyday.

and when hes on doxy he gets 1/2 a theralac too.

he's my sweetie!

Finally able to walk to car from front doors of apartment and do the 5 min walk at indian ruins, rest and walk out.

Diff going up the slight incline. Much easier going out. est 1 hr outing with driving. Good to be out after a week of being too weak to get out.

ipk...enjoyed reading your post.

Thursday-Me and Rocky 3 miles and then for me, an additional 45 minutes of work-out videos.

The little chihuahua up the street loves to wait for me and Rocky. She raises sand when she spots us.

I always say, 'hi, little killer'. She's so cute! She's about the size of Rocky's head. Got alot of courage!

Kayak-Thanks for sharing about Kristopher. He sounds like a real jewel of a dog! Give him a big smoochie from me and Rocky! [kiss]

Kam-I'm so jealous that you get to go to some ruins! It sounds absolutely fascinating!

See you all tomorrow!

AKW...

it does not look like much. I wondered what all the hoopla was when I first started going.

But, I like the atmosphere there and it is asphalt
paved paths which helps.

I also like the idea that I am on ground that was very active with lots of native Americans at one time.

Water is a long walk. I wonder how it was when the village was there as far as how long a walk they had to go on to get water.

AKW...did you used to live in Alaska? my brothers in kodiak-his wife is from Cake.

i didn't ride yesterday. i had the last yard sale and almost finished the outside work before the snow flies

i rode today - not very hard-i know hes lame...owner says hes faking...i know he needs to be trimmed. probably needs ibuprofen and cosamine too. hes 17. anyway-it was a beautiful and and i rode.

then walked the dog-everyone was burning leaves.

tomorrow it is raining so i don't think i'll get to ride. i need to pack a bunch of stuff up cuz i'm going to be with my brother for the week. all my kids are far away. i'll be off-line and away from the horses.

my plan is to drive to the river twice a day to walk the dog about 20 min each time and somehow get on my elliptical regularly...i haven't been able to do it before. my legs are stronger from riding. i hope i can. i've lost 30 pounds since i started riding regularly in july and
I DONT WANNA GAIN IT BACK!!!!!!

swimming, biking and kayaking kept me healthier but i couldn't lose weight with them...so i'm really partial to riding now

kgg...i'll be in berlin nh...less ppl there-and no traffic...but no horses either and my knees can't handle the mts with snow and ice...it is so hard to get any exercise except shoveling and that is really bad for me

ps-i leave southern maine most of july and august...i grew up on nh coast so know it just isn't worth it most of the time in the summer

i think i'll be checking in again before i leave.

take care everyone!

well-guess i'll say bye for the week or so. hope you all have a good week and holiday. i know i'll be in online withdrawal-but it will probably be good for me.

i was supposed to ride today and tomorrow but car and drug store problems messed that up.

anyway-see ya when i get back. take care of yourselves!

Friday-Me and Rocky 3 miles today. Then 45 minutes of those work-out videos.

Kam-Hauling water is no fun. I used to haul water and gas and it was hard work! And that was just from my friend's cabin to mine (2 acres away).

Kayak-I lived in Alaska from 1994 to 2001. Sold my cabin and stuff in 2005. My best friend and her family used to live on Kodiak too. I never had time to visit her there but wish I did.

See you all next week!

Walked from apartment to car (I usually use the power chair and park it near the front entrance to apartments)

Walked into dog park, sat in chair with legs up (need to get to Walmart and see if they that chair that worked better for me is still available)

Walked out of dog park and back to apartment.

When on my feet felt like I was on that planet where the gravitation pull is much stronger than earths.

And felt sick, nauseous. But, at least I was on my feet and Rosie was happy to be at the dog park.

Only 2 other dogs this morning so that was good too.

Most of the crowd comes later.

resting now then going to see if I can be on my feet long enough to cook an egg.

Miss Pris went to the mail yesterday, but I did not. I have been struggling with increased fatigue for a week now. It is the kind that makes you feel heavy like you are wearing the xray apron they put on you. I have never figured out what causes it but I hate it!

So in light of that, I will be a couch potato today. Meals have been a struggle. I try to get them done earlier in the day when the energy is better, but so far I have needed my husband to help out a lot.

Have a good Sunday every one!
Karen

karen,

good way to describe that fatigue. hoping it lightens up soon for you.

Guessing your body needs a much needed rest along with a slide for the stair so at least you don't have to climb up them.

resting is the only thing i know that helps ..it is a forced rest of course

Sunday am

Good outing this am. Hoping I am getting back to "lyme normal" but time will tell.

1 hr outing with 20 min in the great outdoors. Walked on the asphalt trails out at the indian ruins.

est 15 min on my feet with a 5 min break half.

Saw a coyote cross the road on the way. Stopped to look at it and it stopped to look at us.

Saw color in the sky this morning at dawn on the way. Glad I was heading east before the sun was up as it is blinding on that road.

Resting now and then will see about breakfast...most likely something I do not need to be on my feet..just getting some yogurt out of the frig and then back to the easy chair.

I have also seen some kind of different scat on the indian grounds besides elk and coyote scat...i assume it is javelina droppings...guess it is time to do a search.
