I saw a few medical posts moved to general, but others that dont really seem medically related are left to stay?

Is this board reverting back to the days where we all will argue over what is medical vs what belongs in general.

Sigh, sure hope not

Please do not accuse moderators of having an agenda when a post is moved or there is a computer problem affecting service. We understand it is difficult for patients and patient moderators to determine where each Lyme related post should be posted. We also understand that patients get frustrated when they temporarily can not post. We are making a concerned effort to comply with LymeNet rules to make this a workable site and an educational board for all members. AL

If you were around , which I think you may have been a few years ago, you will certainly remember the great debates of medical vs general.

I keep seeing posts about members criticizing the modererators.

people need to let the modererators do their work and stop nit picking and being paranoid.

who really cares where a post is posted? ITs not a big deal.

Truth be told, if more posts that should be in general were posted in general, more people would read general. I think we all, me included, get lazy and just do everything in medical. We're trying to fix that.

i agree. good heavens, there's a bunch of stuff that just plaine ole shouldn't be in medical, period.

if i was a moderator i'd be putting tons of stuff in general and that's a fact....

our mods do a great job.

please please get off their backs. after what we've been through lately we don't need this.

big deal, so just jump to general if you're looking for something. that's what i do. i just click and check all topics.

and i do a lot of searches.

i mean after all, if you've got time to post, you've got time to check each section.

no discussion is necesary as we've done it to death.

please let's just let up on our moderators, unless some of you want to volunteer to be one!!!

Tutu, sometimes when we close a topic we leave a closed version in the original forum. We usually only do that if it's a new poster so that they'll still be able to find it.

When someone has been around the board for a while, we delete the topic from the original forum.

That being said, you reported the duplicate post at the same time I was transferring it, so in the specific case you're talking about, it was just timing. It's not deleted from medical.

If it's non-Lyme medical stuff, it belongs in general.

I think it's nice to move some things over to General, because that ensures that people who have really pressing Lyme questions will get them answered, because those questions will stay on page 1 long enough.

It makes sense to spread things out over two sections.

I think it would also be nice if more people would come over to General.

Maybe to get people in the habit, the moderators could put a "Sticky" up at the top of Medical, saying something like, "Please remember to check "General Support" for general medical concerns!"

You'd need to close the topic though so the sticky doesn't turn into a lengthy debate.

I think some people just don't look over here enough. It would be nice to know that if I post something in General, people will actually look at it.

So I see both sides, but I do agree with Six.

I think two medical sections would be nice, actually.

I remember there was a debate about that awhile ago....there was the idea to separate alternative-type remedies with allopathic or straight ILADS treatment....but people were saying that was making things too "either-or."

I think ideally it would be good to have one for "Medical-Lyme" and "Medical-Whole Body" where it addresses concerns like heavy metals, mold, vitamins, etc.

But I'm not even gonna suggest that, because that debate has come and gone, and the decision was to leave things as-is.

I do think it would be nice if the use of General Support was expaneded, or if General was renamed to include more than just Support....because more people would come here.

Oh well. Lymenet is fine how it is too.

Your divisions make sense, Hoos. I think General is being considered "medical-whole-body" as well as general support, so yeah, birthdays stay there. The idea is meant to keep medical for medical type Lyme questions. Not meant to be a change, maybe just more enforcement.

I guess I don't understand why the Columbia Lyme Study was moved from medical to general. Aren't medical studies considered appropriate for the medical section anymore?

It's in general support. It was in medical but when I went back to look at the study I couldn't find the post. Found it in this forum.

The Columbia article would normally be posted in the Medical Section, but it was reported to moderators as being both misleading and possibly politically motivated. It appears one or more sections at the bottom of the original post were not from the Columbia article. There were quotation marks suggesting a direct quote, which made it misleading. The first time it was posted, it was reviewed by moderators and subsequently moved to the Activism Forum due to the political nature. When it appeared in the same format a second time it was moved to the General Section. The third time it was posted in the Medical Questions Forum it was deleted. Members had problems with content and accuracy. For example:

"As for the N.E.I. center in New Jersey -- maybe I missed it, but the letter above seems misleading to me. It infers that Columbia has endorsed that center and I can find no referenece to that on the Columbia cite or in the journal article?"

Rather than remove the post entirely, two copies will be allowed to remain in more appropriate forums for now. AL

Someone asked me recently where the "Success Stories" thread was, and I had to go looking for the thread. I did find it though and let them know where it was put.

I would love to see a copy of the "Success Stories" thread in both Medical and Support and always right near the top, easy to spot.

It seems "Success Stories" is just that important.

Plus they do give medical info and support both.

The Columbia post was mine, and it was not politically motivated. I would like a chance to speak with the one individual who reported it to understand the problem so in the future I will feel good to post breaking information when I get it.
This info I posted is to help others that have expressed interest, as I do natural protocols and do not have CFS or XMRV I believe. I am just privy to info as I am involved with family members at studies at Columbia for Alzheimers, Autism, and lyme. I am a benefactor to many studies in my families name.

Is there a system in place for the moderators to communicate the concerns with the poster as they are deciding whether to move a post rather than just say do not post this again. It would be more positive way to communicate and prevent the re-posting and all this chatter about it.

When things are moved silently to obscure places when others specifically are looking for it, it causes a stir. So sorry this has happened for all.

The first time it was moved to General, and I thought it was a computer error...and the second time it was moved to activism, which made me realize it was not an error, but I just have unknowingly hit some kind of raw nerve with someone. I am not someone who wants to make waves..I am not an activist.

But now I do see the true problem. This is upsetting someones political lyme interests.

But I am responding here to answer the many emails I have received regarding this. The moderators, both Lou and Six have been very kind to respond to me last evening.

Sorry Six..but I have to respond to all these posts.

But I haven't heard what Anna Lee said until reading this. Now it makes sense...its "political" to someone who reported it.

This is scary...silly and a waste of time.

Lets move on and share information and support for healing for all.

If it were of a bad nature, it would have been deleted. General isn't meant to be obscure.

Also, we are trying to move more things that are not Lyme medical questions to general support for several reasons. One is ALL of us, me included, tend to just surf through medical. We have more than one forum, and they are good forums. If we move more that belongs in general to general and more from general that really belongs in off topic, then perhaps people will see fit to go to the other forums.

I did not move the particular thread in question, but I have moved several threads the past couple days .... like I said, just to try to improve flow of the forum. It was actually something Lou posted that triggered we new mods to do this .... he said a post belonged in a different forum, just that simple, it made us think .... that we were also participating in keeping everything "important" in medical. It's time to consider general to be "important", too. We really didn't intend to stir up so much debate, or to make it seem like it was moved to a lesser spot.

Judging by the SPAM that I have to remove .... I'd say the other forums ARE getting more traffic. It used to be all SPAM went to medical .... not so anymore.

Please try to be patient with us ... we will be moving threads around to encourage the other forums to be important, too. What's the use of having so many forums if only one is used?

Okay six, I've learned patience. It does make sense to move traffic around the site more. It will take training of everyone to spend time reading general, off topic and activism.

Especially "old" timers like Tutu. Medical does get blogged down with stuff it shouldn't.

But I don't believe it's right to bury a post in activism because information might not be favorable to our cause.
