i post on another board, well, i USED to. i'm not taking such abuse anymore. it just upsets me.

it was a political discussion and i said something in defense of sarah palin.

anyway they didn't like it apparently. now ya'll know i have lyme, they do too, so i often don't make sense or say things backasswards.

but to go name calling and all is really sad.

i'm so proud of all of you that we are above that here. no one has ever called me a name or anyone else for that matter. uh, well at least, i don't think we have. i like to think we're above all that.

boards are funny places tho aren't they? i mean people are cruel and mean.

politics is something i guess you shouldn't discuss with anyone except family. well even in my family it causes an argument.

son is a cop and daughter is a lawyer, so yeah, causes big problems, so we don't go there.

i guess i'm just tired. but to be called names, just hurts. it always does, no matter who does it.

sorry, just venting.

but i AM NOT A MORON....

People can be so mean, especially on the internet.

It's like being in your car and you know the other car can't hear you. You might say things that you would never say otherwise.

That's the bad side of the internet.

Sorry that happened to you. And I agree with you. You are not a moron.

You are definitely NOT a moron. Shame on whoever said that!! [cussing]

I know what you mean. I find that no matter where you go, whether it's online or in person, there are always going to be "mean" people.

I am the only conservative in a family of three extremely liberal siblings - this makes it quite difficult to talk politics. But I don't mind, because we respect each other and find other things to talk about.

I'm sorry someone said this to you, I know how it feels and I hate it. [Frown] Julie

Randibear

They were probably the same people in school who were the bullies. They got older but never grew up. They are still bullies.

Some people are just rude and nasty. Don't forget also........some people may be showing symptoms of bartonella...anger and rage.

So, don't take it to heart, it may be their disease talking.

Hey bear...

I know it can be hurtful and it is surely not called for. What is wrong with people? Why do they act like butt heads sometimes?

I'm afraid if you dare to say or do things you will be attacked. The more you say or do, the more attacks you have.

Just tonight I had some lovely things said to me because someone didn't like the fact that I am working on a doctor protection bill.

Maybe they don't know that our doctors do NOT want this bill, patients don't want and it could be dangerous for all of us if it passed. Either way, know that or don't.. this is not how you express a difference of opinion...

"I think you are a "very" mixed up person motivated by personal power and self-importance. And obviously more than bit maniacal."

Sooooooooooo.. may I suggest?

Don't let people of a lower caliber get your goat.

And.. BTW- I think Sarah Palin is just fine.

I've discovered that political discussions on message boards can get really ugly. I have some strong opinions in that arena but if I'm feeling vulnerable or really crappy physically, I've learned to stay out of discussions like that. No one is a moron, they just have opinions that some others may find hard to deal with. It is THEIR problem, not yours. Hang in there!

I think most people hold their political and religious views very strongly, based on their life experience, family upbringing, education, outlook and interests.

They have usually thought carefully about these things, which matter to them a lot, have good reasons for believing and supporting what they do, and are not likely to change their views just based on someone else's dissenting comment.

The trouble is when one person forgets that the person who disagrees with them has just as good a reason for being on the opposite side of the issue. Sometimes people just have conflicting interests and different ways of seeing the world.

If they presume that the only reason anyone would disagree with their views is because the dissenter lacks information or the capacity to reason, they will start calling people "morons" and "idiots," which seems a very bad strategy to try to persuade people to change their minds and agree with your ideas.

I have seen this happen on both sides of political and other kinds of issues.

We would all get a lot farther and have more fun if people would start by respecting each other.

I am sorry you got called a moron. You aren't one, and people should not get personally attacked for expressing their opinions.

Indeed. We used to have political discussions in Off Topic and it got really nasty.

It made me not like some people because of things they said about "my side." (even though I didn't get into the discussion) So it is just better to not discuss it in my opinion. I want to stay friends with everyone here.

Last I checked, we're not to discuss political stuff here. I'm happy with that!

Randi.. you're not a moron and neither is Sarah Palin.

My Mom always said that if you have nothing nice to say,

Don't say anything at all.

Words I try to live by.

I got taken down this week by an older co-worker for calling her "Ms."

In front of her name. That is the way I was raised.

A sign of respect. One I use often.

Talk about upset me!

Then I realized that if that was the One Big Complaint....

The One Thing that kept her up at night....

That was really sad....and funny.

Try applying the same logic to your name caller.

Obviously not mature enough to respect another's opinion

Or ask for clarification.

So...."Nanny, Nanny Boo-Boo!" to that name caller. [Razz]

Now back to my "mature" self.

Hang in there.

Hugs,

Geneal

Randi, illnesses such as Lyme and co's can release inner devils in everyone. I have gotten some wonderful zings on here in the past and from two posters to my email.

It is also easier to be evil to people that can't defend themselves in person. Some who would not have guts enough to say things in person can really roll it off in mail. It becomes very impersonal

After being hurt and then po'ed, you can only pray for them to get well. Because they are ill. HOwever, I would not waste urine on their grave if it were on fire.

And they do not either care what they say or do are so ill they can rationalize that they are correct. They are always right and have some ill gotten feeling that they can do no wrong.

Good luck Randi..Been there. Try to let it roll. They are sick puppies. lmt

I am so sorry for you--calling names is never acceptable even when you disagree.

but I do have a question for Tincup
you said

"Maybe they don't know that our doctors do NOT want this bill, patients don't want and it could be dangerous for all of us if it passed. Either way, know that or don't.. this is not how you express a difference of opinion..."

since Ive seen a LOT of the states trying to pass similar bills in the past weeks, HOW do you know what Drs and patients want in Md??

It seems as if many of the Maryland groups DO support it.And Ive read many Drs in the states where these bills are blooming also do want them.

Maybe the person who disagreed with you was simply expressing frustration at the differences between what she "knows" and what you "know"?

Nasty language is never the answer, but sometimes we can take things wrong when we are emotionally involved!

what a shocking coincidence- Gloria, the 'member' who seems to be an sock-puppet (ie fake profile) for Fin also happens to share Fin's famous distaste for Tincup.

Gloria-

you are brave to voice your concerns...I too have very similar ones.

I keep quiet... as most of my posts are deleted or moved now.

I too thought MD wanted a bill to protect Doctors.. one of the big Lyme Dr could not move to MD because he was not protected... I wish all sides could be voiced so we as patients knew what was going on.

thank you cantgiveupyet!!

gee I didnt think I was being distasteful at all.
I was only asking questions to try and understand.
and I even mentioned that maybe the comment upsetting Tincup, wasnt meant personally.

besides tincup brought up an important topical topic, and she is a long timer here--so, I assumed if she brought it up--its allowed to be asked about or talked about.

Tincup signs off this way so Im sure she will agree that:
"All that is necessary for evil to succeed is that good men do nothing". AND that they stop asking questions!!

People may have legitimate questions. The problem with questions is that very busy people in the know have to answer them. Then if they don't answer, rumor and speculation abound. I will try in this case.

State bills designed to protect our LLMDs don't always succeed, less for bad intentions than for lack of understanding about the politics of Lyme. Usually the legislators want to be helpful but are not informed enough to counter arguments on the fly.

And then there are the bad intentions - interventions by the IDSA to make sure the language promotes their interests and not ours.

Sometimes proposed bills require LLMDs to create a "Treatment Plan." The "Treatment Plan" language comes over from drug abuse treatment plans. Other diseases don't require the dr to create a "treatment plan" but just to document the treatment in the medical record.

Requiring LLMDS to create a Treatment Plan imposes an unfair burden that will drive drs from the treatment of chronic Lyme, otherwise they are not protected.

Then there is the requirement that antibiotics be allowed "for a therapeutic purpose." What if the antibiotics don't appear to be therapeutic for 3 months, for 6 months, or longer? How long should an LLMD be allowed to treat with impunity? If a dr claimed sanctuary under the bill, he would have to prove that the antibiotics he prescribed were "therapeutic."

There are all kinds of problems with the MD bill language. The IDSA is investing considerable effort into making sure our bills do not have the desired effect. However much we want to protect our LLMDs, we can't afford to support a bill that doesn't protect them and requires them to do extra work that other drs are not required to do.

The ALDF has been busy with MD legislators. Here's what the MD legislative analysis says:

"The American Lyme Disease Foundation states that Lyme disease is almost always cured by a single course of conventional antibiotic treatment of three to four weeks. The National Institutes of Health indicate long-term antibiotic or antimicrobial therapy for the treatment of Lyme disease has no therapeutic value and can be dangerous. Medications, including antibiotics, are not typically specific to one strand of bacteria. Therefore, they not only can destroy ``bad bacteria'' such as Borrelia burgdorferi, which causes Lyme disease, but also kill ``good bacteria'' that inhabit the body."

I'm sure you will agree that this isn't the kind of language we want associated with any bill we help to pass.

If you are really interested in all the ins and outs of legislation and the arguments over precise language, there may be more on the Activism forum. I suggest you check there.

First.. thanks Phyllis for replying. I hadn't seen the questions till now. I was just concerned about the moron that started this post and thought I'd check in with her.

JUST KIDDING Bear. [lol]

Gloria said.. "since Ive seen a LOT of the states trying to pass similar bills in the past weeks, HOW do you know what Drs and patients want in Md??"

Actually, I did what others didn't do... the unthinkable.

I asked them if they wanted it. A note was sent to all docs I was able to contact... and phone calls were made to some offices.

Another note was also sent state wide to group leaders and to many groups across the country for their opinions. They were all asked to review the bill and respond.

Not one group and not one patient responded that they wanted this bill.

More importantly, none of the docs that responded, who this bill affects the most, wanted it.

It is fairly easy to see that this is a bad bill. Period.

``````````````````````````````````````````````````
Gloria said... "It seems as if many of the Maryland groups DO support it."
Well, I don't know of any group that supports it .. and I asked most of them already... or I was sent replies by group members from the group leaders about it. 100% of the answers were "no" to the bill.
In fact, over 25 groups I've had time to contact so far have responded... and all said that they did not want this bill.
If you know of any Maryland support group that wants this bill, please let me know.
`````````````````````````````````````````````````

Gloria said... "And Ive read many Drs in the states where these bills are blooming also do want them."

Some docs in some states may want them.. and that is fine and dandy for their situation and their state. But here in Maryland we know you don't ask the devil for a glass of ice water. You may not get what you asked for.

Hey can't...

You said... "I too thought MD wanted a bill to protect Doctors.. one of the big Lyme Dr could not move to MD because he was not protected... "

Actually, I assisted that doc and did a lot of research on that subject when he asked me to help him with info on moving here.

The reason he chose not to come here was because it was too long of a wait to get a license (if I remember right, an extra year) in this state compared to other states... and our rules were tighter on those who had charges in other states.

Can't said.. "I wish all sides could be voiced so we as patients knew what was going on."

As Phyllis suggested, please look in the activism section. I've done a detailed run down on the bill and some of the many reasons that it is a problem. I welcome all feedback.

In fact, I believe the person who helped get the bill introduced here has been chatting over in Activism with me. That is the only person I know that may want this bill... and I believe that it was initiated on behalf of possibly one doctor? I can't say for sure but that is my impression.

I try as hard as I can to get the word out to patients as fast as I can... with as much detail as possible. If you ever have a question I will certainly try to answer it.

If I don't know the answer I will try to find someone that does. OK?

thank you Phyllis and Tincup for answering the questions!!
Phyllis said
[The problem with questions is that very busy people in the know have to answer them. ]

well,I know that sometimes its hard, but its part of the job of very busy leaders to answer all questions,from all who may be affected- so I appreciate you taking the time!

WOW, Tincup, I hadnt realized that such a small state (MD) had SO many support groups!! thats very admirable that they all were polled!!! makes sense to me.

IF y'all wouldve simply said " information and details about what Tincup said are over in activism" Id have gone there to ask those questions. Instead I was immediately jumped on for various, and some silly, reasons

Randibear--Im sorry your thread was sidelined...and I meant it--being called names isnt ever nice!

Just to set the record straight...

Gloria, you said.. "well,I know that sometimes its hard, but its part of the job of very busy leaders to answer all questions,from all who may be affected-"

First of all, we are ALL volunteers. We do what we can when we can and most volunteers do way more than they should.

Second, we actually owe no one any explanation at all.

What we can and do share, we do so as a courtesy in the hopes to try to keep people informed. Any of us at any given time can walk away and do nothing... or we can work ourselves stupid and not have time to share as we go. At least that is how I see it.

Most volunteers do try to inform folks as they have time, but most have their emphasis on getting the job done.

Not trying to sound rude, but I feel I owe no one anything because what I do to help out is done with my own time, energy and funds. I do because I want to.. not because I have to.

You also said.. "WOW, Tincup, I hadnt realized that such a small state (MD) had SO many support groups!! thats very admirable that they all were polled!!!"

Actually, please go back and read my posts. I never said ALL groups were polled. I also never said all were in Maryland.

I did say that groups were sent a copy of the bill. I am sure there are groups in and out of state that I don't even know about... and some didn't respond.

I had a contact from one group tonight I didn't even know existed. And there are some that are inactive due to leaders being ill. Etc. Etc.

Just want to make clear what I actually said so there is no confusion.

i was called a moron for discussing politics -- palin.

i have lyme and the people on the board do not. in fact, they have questioned me having lyme, so yeah, they do not support lyme in my opinion.

they've never come out and said so, well, one did, but it wasn't about lyme at all.

ah, i never seem to learn.
