What the heck does FRONTLINE DO? The cat still had a nymph deer tick on him that got on ME when I went to pet him! Talk about PANIC! Last year, I had 2 nymph ticks that tested DNA Lyme-positive and NEARLY KILLED ME! I got JUST well enough to visit my mom in a rural area, and just realized that Frontline does NOT keep him from repeatedly bringing ticks in from the woods. HELP? HOW on EARTH can we protect the family with a cat going back and forth fromt he woods to my mom's BED!?!@? PLEASE HELP?

the ONE way I know is to make it an inside cat ONLY!!!
ANY pets running outside,,,then inside,is the same problem.

I'm afraid Don's right. My cat is an indoor critter now. I'll let him out on my screened cement patio, but he doesn't go in the grass, woods or anything else.

yes i have to agree. make him an inside cat. frontline is the best product that is available for cats.
I used to be a vet tech, and this is all i can think of.
there is a frontline spray you can use to. make sure that the frontline is applied every 3-4 weeks on the nose. if it is bad apply every 3 weeks.

I have a question about this - I spoke with the TKO Orange folks and they said it is ok to lightly rub or mist dog and cat fur with it -
it's an essential oil from oranges that is nontoxic to us and repels/kills bugs. It's biodegradable and would need to be applied every 24 hours, I think. So far I have met another woman who said she puts it on her dog's fur.
It's called Orange Guard in stores, or TKO Orange as a concentrate. It's what I use for tick/bug repellent. I put a little bit in a spray bottle, fill up with water, and spray on my clothing. It can also be sprayed on the ground, camping gear, etc. It's also a great cleaner.
Oops, I've been following the directions to apply it to the back, between the shoulder blades.
I use Frontline Plus for cats. Carol

Vet tech says to apply tick repellent on cat noses, as long as it doesn't have a strong smell.

The very least you must do is to keep the cats inside at all times.
In real life, speaking as an owner of 4 cats, that likely won't be possible. Once cats have grown accustomed to going out, it is very difficult to keep them in.
Our have been indoor cats since the day I knew I had Lyme, but these years later, two of ours live for the chance of outsmarting us and dashing out the door.
They inevitably bring back fleas after their very brief escapes; I haven't seen a tick on them yet, probably because we are in a city and they don't get away from concrete.
If I ever see a single tick on a single cat, the 2 cats that escape outdoors will be GONE.
I love my cats, but in a contest of whose well being comes first with Lyme as a consequence, it ain't even close.

We have a outdoor cat that comes in for our cold winters.
But my neighbor has already seen a tick this spring soooo. He is not coming in anymore.
I never thought about this pre-lyme but I tend to agree with sometimesdilly I WILL NOT now take the chance on the cat sleeping on my son's bed leaving ticks behind.
Besides he has a nice big barn to hang out in!!

My sister's cat is indoor/outdoor goes into the woods cat and it loves me. I refuse to have this cat come near me. I will not put myself in a situation like that makes me uneasy.
My sister sees me trying to shoo the cat away and chases her off. Everytime I leave my sister's house I have some bite(s). Flee bite or some mite bites. She has two dogs too, that run around the property, but they don't roam the woods as often.
I spray myself and wear treated socks over there now to try to avoid the bites. It's pretty bad when you would rather avoid someone's house.
For months I refused to go into their theatre room. I told them their room was infested with flees or mites and they had to have if defogged before I would go back in there.

taking the pyrethim based stuff out could make since...Ive noticed with my dog and cats the frontline doesnt seem to work as well...if at all and it used to work great.
For what its worth my son and I have already found numerous ticks this year..needless to say I am freaking...will it never end??
I just put frontline on all of them the other day...so we'll see how it works

Just as a head-up re Frontline: about a week ago, I gave my cockapoo Teddy his monthly dose of Frontline. The other night, i noticed something weird on the skin on his back.
I wasn't sure what was going on, so we took him to the vet. When he examined him, he said it seemed like a burn of some kind and then put him on antibiotics.
He's a great pup in the woods and game from anything, but ticks are endemic in this area, and now I don't know what to do. i just know I will not be giving him more Frontline Plus.
Apparently there have been numerous consumer reports about this same type of problem. Some of them havn't had such happy endings.
If anyone has any suggestions I cn use as a natural repellant, please let me know. In the meantime, I thought it was worth a mention.

Has anyone tried Orange Guard yet? I've had reports from people here that it's ok to use, and that it deters and kills bugs.
