What can you do today? We need to keep moving our bodies. Use it or lose it!

Some people are not able to do aerobic exercise because of relapsing the day after. I am like that. But there are exercises that you can do that do not raise the heart rate. That is what I am going to be doing.

If you can do aerobic exercise, it can be a challenge to find the right level to help us and not put us back to bed. We have some that are able to walk a mile and then some! Yeah!

Then there are those that daily activities are enough challenge without putting the guilt on that they are not "exercising". So yes, we count daily activities!

So what can you do today?

ONly two more weeks of this month. Hurray!

I did some moving and grovin this am...but it was task work.

Went to the grocery store via the sr van and power chair.

I did OK in the store..but was not able to use a grocery list...just tried to wing it...looking for what I call finger foods so I can use my energy towards packing this week and not fixing meals.

I got off of the van after the second pick up on the way home. I felt like I was on mr. Toads Wild Ride...the movement and noise was too much.

New driver. The old one knew to take me right home.

So, I got off and cruised home in my power chair before I threw up. Not the drivers fault. Just my body and brain not able to handle it.

Body is in pain now as I was moving in the power chair for about an hour and a half this am.

The upright power chair. Not the one that reclines and has leg lifts.

I am thinking I will have the in home health care person do the shopping next time.

That has not worked out very well in the past. But, we shall see how this person does.

Or I could have a neighbor pick up a few things for me too the next few weeks until I am moved in and set up at the new place.

Good planning Katherine. [Smile] I think.

worked inside today. Pollen count is still too high for me.

Kam... still waiting on that rain dance. maybe your neighbor can pick up some food for you. You don't need to pay a health care worker to shop incorrectly for you.
just my two pennies.
Kam... If you live in Arizona, are you 4 hrs. ahead/behind Ga.?

Posted by kam (Member # 3410) on :

Diane....I guess I need to get stronger to do that rain dance...too weak. HA!

Don't know about the time..I get easily confused and still haven't figured the time thing out here.

I just know that we do not change our clocks in the spring and fall.

Good idea about having a neighbor pick up some things for me. Hope I find a good one on my first try.

I have tried in the past and it was more work than if I had gotten the groceries myself. Some people are more talkers than doers.

I even printed out the pictures on the web site for the grocery store I was asking them to get food at.

I recall asking a neighbor to pick up a bottle of excedrin for me once. I even gave her the empty bottle.

She had 20 plus questions to ask ....that was the last time I asked her for help.

Packed one box of pictures from the walls. It was like walking uphill with a heavy backpack and low oxygen.

I am exhausted. REsting now and then I will try again. The body is just too heavy today and too difficult to move..the fatigue affects the brain too.

kgg--thanks for faithfully starting this thread encouraging us to keep-a-moving.

kam--what a wild ride..and throwing up, sorry about that. [shake]

Only exercise I've done so far today is finger exercises--typing, typing, typing. Got a lot accomplished though. Later tonight I'll plan on my muscle/toning isometrics.

Tues 4am Got another box packed ( took pictures off of wall and just layered them with newspapers in between) Exhausted now. Will label box later.

7 am finished putting a box together with clothes that no longer fit and dragged it outside my door for the maintenance man to pick up.

Exhausted and weak now. Note to self: next time take meds and supplements first. Too exhausted to take them now so resting.

Able to drive to dog park and walk in. Short stay. Cold out.

KAM, were you up all night or up early? I am going to be praying that somehow you get some more help with this move!

Diane, this time of year Arizona is 3 hours behind the east coast. Then when we fall back they are 2 hours behind. They don't change the clocks but they change from Pacific time to Mountain time when the clocks change. I know... I found it confusing when I lived there too. But it was nice not to have to mess with the clocks.

Daisyrlb, good to hear from you!

Yesterday, I did not do much as far as exercise. But I got my tomato and pepper seeds planted. I am late on the peppers, I hope they can catch up!

Today I am going to do my arm exercises and go out and plant my peas. My husband put up a sturdy fence for them to climb on so it is time.

Diane, hope that rain comes soon!

Best,
Karen

Enjoying reading about the garden work.

Will read what others wrote when able.

Karen,

I had the thought that I need help too, but then remembered how help can actually be more exhausting depending on the help.

If they can work independently, I am OK. But, it is those that turn something simple to a verbal step by step move that I can do without.

One lady offered to help, but then I recalled how she turned getting duplicate keys made for me into an 8 hour affair continually coming in and out of the house with questions and going back and forth to the key place.

It was two keys..house and car...sheesh. I also told her she needed to go to the key guy in town but she went to the hardware store first and then Walmart and then somewhere else.

Keys did not work after all that.

So, I am kind of leary about asking for help. Don't know people well enough here to know who to ask that will get the job done without a lot of ta do about nothing.

I was thinking of making a list of things that need to be done though today just in case someone stops by to help.

Karen: I was thinking about who I have felt safe with and have made life more do able since coming down sick....sometimes with moments that I am normal.

There was you and my friend Denise who lives in CA and my friend Phyllis who lives in Ca.

Went to water therapy with lower back pain. Came out with much less stress on the body and no back pain.

Karen, the maintenance man and his brother will be moving my things down the hall and cleaning my apartment to get it ready for the next tenant. [Smile]

KAM, glad you have some help for the move. Just wish you had it for the packing up too. I understand about it being work to have help. I have someone who will ask way too many questions. Makes my brain tired. You know if I was there I would be helping! In between naps that is...

I got my peas planted. I should have done my arm exercises but I did get a work out with the hoe. Typically I use the arm exercises to warm up my arms before gardening. Not today. Oh and I did deep knee bends planting the peas.

Not sure how much more I will get done today.

Kam... Hope YOU are not over doing it!! [tsk]
Save some energy so you can eat. OK? Did you find some finger foods at the store?

Oh, thankyou for thr rain dance...it worked. It's scattered rain. figured every time it stops,
thats when you had to take a break from your dance. LOL

Kgg... You are making me miss planting a garden this year [Frown] I did get one of those upside down tomato hangers.

Today for me... Nothing yet.Just made the beds, and thought I would make some brownies later for the boys. Rainy days I like to rest my body.
I will prepre dinner later. Fish, Broccoli, and
Santa Fe Pilaf.(Bulger wheat, Quinoa and black beans) -

Ah Ha! I finally found everyone!

Couldn't find this week's post! Duh!

Saturday I pulled weeds and washed my poor pollen encrusted car.

Today me and Rocky walked just one mile.

Am going Thursday to the temp agency to check on another job.

I survived my 3 week temp job, even the 2, 12 hour shift days.

Will let you all know how the new job goes.

See you all later!

Cleaned one bathroom today. Between the smell of the Ajax and the pollen, my brain, face and nose
can't hardly take much more. Anyone know a good cleaner for bathtubs? Boy, You sure use alot of muscles cleaning up after people.

Diane

Posted by kam (Member # 3410) on :

Diane...you will be so happy when you go non toxic and don't have that smell. You will wonder why you put up with the toxic smells all those years.

I have not been able to clean my bathroom since coming down with lyme....but a lady that sales Shaklee has come and cleaned it for me 3 times.

Not sure what she used.

I will read the other posts later when able.

I just got back from taking Rosie out on the 10 min loop in the forest. It was great to see the lupine blooming and the sun shining on them.

it also felt great to hear the wind in the pine trees.

I did not need to rest half way. Not sure why I was able to function until noon today. Guessing it was because I took the excedrin later than usual.

Also able to walk into cable company and walk into mechanics and sit down and take care of business.

Lady I cable company started asking me questions about my service dog. Brain was not functioning well enough to respond.

Thankfully it only took 2 times to tell her the brain was not working well enough.

Hi guys.

I didnt do any formal exercise, but had to clean my house a bit. I just got over a 5 day stomach bug. Have never been so sick! MAkes me appreciate my baseline.

I also had to clean my frog tank.It is 20 gallons, It had about 15 pounds of gravel that needed to be scooped and thrown away. I changed it from an aquatic setup to land with a huge bowl for them to swim in. this way i just change the water everyday and the dirt every month or as needed.

having problems with 2 dogs. Max my 12 year old has eye ulcers in each eye that are not getting better despite treatment. My 11 year old is acting strangely and lethargic an looks like her belly is swollen. I sure hope they make it through this. I bring her to the vet in the am. Not sure what to do with the eye ulcers. He is in pain, and I dont like it. He gets pain meds.

Kam- do you get liver tests done? I ask because it seems like you take excedrin a lot. I just ask because I care!

My hubby has been working 6 days a week. Its killing me (and likely him )but I am grateful he has a good job.
This just means I have less help around the house and less time to rest. It also means that I dont get to see him much.

hope everyone hasa good week.

Melissa, welcome back to the land of the living.

The frog thing sounds like fun. Not cleaning it. But, watching those frogs swim about.

Sorry to hear about the dogs. Ouch.

I asked the doc to test my liver again at today's appt. I will know if he followed through on it when i get a call to go to the lab.

I know long hours are hard on the family life. But, hang in there. Take care of each other.

I just walked 10 min in the forest again. Feels like rain now...cold and damp and rain clouds over head.

Interesting how it changes in such a short period of time.

Also able to do 2 loads of laundry..have not put the laundry away yet.

And finally able to put the pantry stuff away from Monday's short shopping trip.

Today was a good day as far as being able to do things. Brain feels a bit swollen now though so hoping once I veg I will be OK.

Too exhausted to fix something to eat too and no figure food around.

So hoping once I rest I will be able to do something about dinner too..something simple...perhaps yogurt and banana's and raspberries.

I'm off to bed.. just stopped in to say that I walked 40 laps and did 6 minutes on my favorite machine!

Continue on, gang!

40 laps and 6 minutes on the machine! Go, Lymetoo!

Merrygirl, 5 days of a stomach bug does not sound fun! Glad you are feeling better. I am sorry to hear about the dogs. Ouch for them and ouch for the pocketbook.

Aklnwlf, good luck with the job hunt. So glad you were able to handle the last job, including two 12 hour shifts! That would do me in, if I could do it at all!

KAM, I think it is good to check your liver. So glad you had a good day. You accomplished quite a bit!

Yesterday, I went to the big city and did a lot of errands. When I got back I planted some lettuce seeds and then dropped.

Today, my plan is to do a major vacuuming of the house, laundry and take my MIL to an appointment.

Diane, I was reading on a site that someone suggested for soap scum: 1 cup of Dawn and 2 cups of vinegar in a spray bottle. Dawn does bother some people so it may not work for you. I don't think other dish soaps would work as well, because Dawn cuts grease.

Daily Shower Cleaner:
In a 32 oz. spray bottle add 2 cups white vinegar and 2 T. dishwasher rinse agent (like Jet-Dry)(I use Earth Friendly Wave Jet). Fill the rest of the bottle with water. Use after every shower. I don't know if it makes the shower slippery or not as I have not tried this.

The Shaklee product KAM was trying to remember is Basic H. Initially, fairly expensive but it is a concentrate. I know people who use it that swear by it. I have not tried it myself. I just use vinegar with water in a spray bottle.

Best,
Karen

Kam... is that figure food or finger foods [Smile]
Didn't I just scolled(sp?) you the other day for using too much energy and to save some for eating? I just worry about you. I beleive you have told me in the past... when you are feeling well, don't over do it because it will come back and bite you in the hiney... not in those exact words but you get it.

Karen... I do use dawn so that probably wouldn't bother my nero issues. This Basic H you speak of, can you buy in the store? Major vacuuming...Yuck! I have to dust all the time...hardwood floors. Dust bunnies under everything.

Merrygirl... Happy you are doing better.

Aklnwlf... wish you the best in your hunt.

Lymetoo... it sounds like you don't have to fight for your favorite machine any more.

Me... Just trying to get by today. Made potato and pea salad this a.m. for the family and brownies, none of which I can have.I am going to grill out this evening.

Everyone have a splended day.

Diane

Diane, the Basic H by Shaklee is kind of like Avon or Tupperware. Sold by someone local. Or you can buy online but then there is shipping.

http://www.shaklee.com/index.shtml

To find a distributor you have to give them your contact info. So I have never done that.

Yup. We have hardwood floors, cork or tile so we have major dust bunnies all of the time. We have NO 5 second rule in my house! [Roll Eyes]

Best,
Karen

Wow looks like there is lots going on. Hoping to come back later and catch up.

Just picked up a few things so hskpr/cg could vacuum...that drained me.

Really out of it today. Over did it and now just trying to get something to eat is too much.

A reminder not to over do things.

Over doing it was spending 2 1/2 hrs at mechanics while waiting for an oil change and tire rotation.

I was surprised I was able to be in the office while laying on the couch in there. Usually it is too much for me to take in what is going on around me.

But, paid for it the rest of the day. Did get up and walk a bit outside while there twice...but every short time on feet.

slept from 4 pm ish to 9 or 10 pm ish so need to get back to baseline so I can get Rosie out to toilet.

She really missed not going for the walk in the forest today. We too.

I'm in trouble gang.

Wednesday I came home around lunch time to find an armed robber in my house.

I ran away from him through the woods but have sprained the heck out of my ankle.

[Frown]

I'm out of commission again but am so glad it's just a sprained ankle and not a gunshot wound or worse.

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

BTW, I'm gonna post more in a separate post.

Posted by kgg (Member # 5867) on :

Wow, Aklnwlf! That is such a shock. Yes, a sprained ankle is the least, but I still hope it heals quickly for you! You definitely will be in my prayers. Hope the nerves calm soon.

I am lowly motivated today. We have some rainy weather and I am wondering if that is it or if I just over did it the last couple of days. Either way, for the next 2 hours my recliner and I are going to visit. Then I am going to the Bangor Flower show. So that will involve some walking.

Hope every one is OK.

Lone Wolf... I replied in your other post, but forgot this[[[[[BIG HUG]]]]] for you and Rocky.

I worked in the yard for a couple of hours. It got too hot... Had to come in and shower a second time. I had so much sweat dripping in my eyes. Who ever said swetting is good for you!!!

Everyone have a great day.

Friday...1pm here....took Rosie out to toilet this am and then fell asleep in the recliner until noon.

Waiting for head to clear up and hoping I will be able to do something.

Time to take Rosie out for her mid day toileting.

Guess I over did it the past two days too.

Friday afternoon...able to drive Rosie to trail head near home. WAlked 5 min, rested and then walked out...at least I was able to get the body moving although it did not want to.

MDW.. I keep an eagle eye on that machine now so I can get in.. plus it's got a 10 min limit on it now, so that helps!!

HOping to be back to catch up.

Able to be outdoors for an hour and a half today...cruised on down to the man made lake down the street via the power chair to see classic car show.

NOt really able to enjoy cars as it was too crowded...but noticed brain was working better..able to keep a heads up for dogs on left, dogs on right on leashes...since I had my dog with me need to keep her safe

Then there was the obstacle of not running people over in my power chair and moving about the crowds.

Brain felt inflamed by the time I got home. But, pressure went down after an hour or two thankfully.

Hoping to be able to do the 10 min loop on my feet now...we shall see.

I was able to do the loop without resting half way

Noticed hikers in the mountains ran into Pres Obama and Michelle yesterday on the trail.

Got a kick out of that. Wondered what I would do if I ran into them. Most likely ask where Bo was and tell them to enjoy their outing just like I do others I run into on the trail.

Yesterday all I did was go go go! Not good good good!

It was a beautiful day but I really overdid it. I'm feeling it this morning.

8:30 - Son's baseball parade
9:00 - Leave son with spouse and pick up one girl from sleepover
10:00 - Bring daughters to babysit
10:30 - Stop off at the store for some much needed items
1:00 - Bring son to track practice
2:15 - Whisk son away early, change to baseball clothes in car
3:00 - Baseball game that lasted for 2 hours

All of this in the blaring sun. Even with sunglasses on I spent hours squinting and ended up with a killer headache.

I know it doesn't sound like a lot of vigorous "exercise" but I basically felt very beat up by the time we all got home.

Then my two girlfriends called 15 minutes after I got home and invited me over for dinner and drinks.

Guess what I said? Absolutely not. Just couldn't do it.

I basically crashed on the couch, fell asleep around 8:30, moved up to my bed at 9:30, and didn't wake up till 7:30.

Feeling kinda whoozy yet anxious today. Achy all over, which I don't really understand as I didn't do anything overly physical. Also feel very nauseous.

Anyway, going to take it easy today. My son has a charity run at around noon. My spouse and one of my daughters are also running so we're all going. Half debated doing the run myself as it's only a mile but not going to happen after yesterday's beating.

After the run, it's back home to recuperate for the day....and probably tomorrow too. All I'll have to do is cook dinner, which I will make simple.

It's so frustrating that normal daily life with kids can be so exhausting. I hope I can keep up. Although, yesterday was a much fuller schedule than usual. Hopefully we won't have to fit so much into one day very often.

Sorry for the whining post! Not very encouraging but it's where I'm at.

Hopefully can get my garden rototilled and some lettuce planted next weekend....if these darn coaches don't fill up every second of every day again!

Hope everyone is doing well this weekend.

Yesterday I was able to weed one of my perennial beds. I think I worked over an hour but not really sure. I was really stiff in the evening but thankfully this morning I was not. I hope to get out there again today after the rain moves out of the area.

Topaz, that kind of day would do me in! My hat is off to you for even trying.

Good to hear that you (Kayak) are able to ride every other day. I hope this horse works out for you.

Diane, sweating is good for us, but we need to replace the electrolytes we lose. Do you drink Smart Water? Or any kind of mineral water? That would help you feel less wiped. And of course, my hat is off to you for being out in the heat and humidity to begin with!!

Melissa, we all need a day to crash once in a while. Mine may be today! =)

Lymetoo, you are an encouragement. Keep it up!

KAM, glad you were able to get out. Hope that brain inflammation calms.

Have a good Sunday every one!

I did the mile run!

I'm so proud of myself.

After my previous post, as the morning went on, I started to feel a bit better. Figured I'd at least give it a go and walk if I needed to.

I jogged the whole way! Wow, I haven't run a mile in forever. I'm so glad I gave it a shot. My son said he was proud of me. [Smile]

Hopefully I didn't make a mistake that I will pay for tomorrow.

Kgg, I've got some weeding to get started on as well. Maybe next weekend.

Happy Sunday to all. [Smile]
