If I stop to think about it and how close the appointment is getting I start going into a panic attack.

I'm so nervous. I need to go through all the info again and look up everything on first visits and what questions to ask and such.

I don't know what to do to keep from freaking out.

I have to go by myself and it's a bit of a trip.

Help.

This is what I tell myself when I start to panic...

It's O.K.!

You've gone through so much and now you are traveling alone to your first LLMD appointment.

You're brave and awesome.

Be really kind to yourself and be ok with your feelings through the whole process.

With you in spirit there Kissy!

I think it's important to remember that you're going to an LLMD, not another insensitive Dr who is convinced you don't have Lyme. At my first visit, I was sweating profusely and very embarrassed about it. That was until he told me that it was normal. That's part of what the disease was doing to me. He was compassionate, like every LLMD should be. Don't stress about how you appear to your new Dr., be at peace in knowing you're on your way towards getting better. I wish you the best.

We have a group on www.lymefriends.org for anxiety, common for us, and lots of other support too that is a great adjunct to lymenet. Feel free to join us there.

kissygoose,

if you have a good llmd then there will be no problem. I can't speak for all llmds but the one i go to has been awesome! They totally understand what you are going through so you can tell them everything that you are experiencing. Don't have to hold back info - they already know the various and vast symptoms that people experience.

Best wishes - I'm sure it will go great and you'll feel relieved that your on your way to recovery!!

I was excited to go to my first LLMD appt.

I knew it was going to be the beginning of my long path to wellness after so many years of suffering.

My LLMD is also awesome...so understanding and takes his time.

I think you will do great!!!

Thanks everyone.

I'm still a nervous wreck when I stop to think of the appointment but I'm trying to get myself as organized as possible.

I'm re-reading all the info I have printed out from when I started here and have been trying to write down "symptoms" as I think of them in my "doctors log".

Just trying to take it one day at a time today.

I hope you all are right in how the doctor will be but I'm so used to the opposite end of the spectrum that's what I expect.

Thanks again.

I felt the same way-scared of what I would learn, and of what creepy treatments he would want me on. Plus, I travelled many miles as well, to NYC, by myself. Stayed right in Manhattan.

It was some of the best days!! I LOVED the city, felt very brave-even rode the subway! And my LL PA made me feel so hopeful, and he was so affirming and knowledgeable. I had nearly cancelled the trip out of fear of the cost, the above concerns, and the MILES...so very glad I didn't.

Since you are travelling to see yours, ask if they will do phone consults for follow up. Mine did-still a fee, but much cheaper than an office visit and a return trip to see him.

Good luck, and let us knopw how it goes!
