Do you have trouble or problems getting your hair cut?

I don't do it often, every 1/2 decade or so... but each time I break down and do it I remember why I don't like to do it.

My hair had made it down to my waist, so it was time to see the butcher. But goodness.. what a chore.

The smells. Good golly, could it possibly smell worse in a "BEAUTY" salon? What's up with that?

And the blinding fluorescent lights pounding my eyes the whole time. Oh, and the huge glare spot light from one of the cars parked out front with the afternoon sun shining on it and bouncing right in my eyes.

Then there are the ones who don't listen to your instructions.

"I want it layered so it doesn't take a lot of time each day messing with it... not more than 2 inches cut off at most... and I don't want it to be hanging in my face."

That seems simple enough.

So, when they measured the pieces on the floor they admitted a little more than 2 inches was cut off. More like 8 1/2 inches!

It looks like a hair dooooo that a 20 year old would have and.. believe it or not... it hangs in my face! UGGGG!!!!

And there are no layers. Hmmmmmm I say, hmmmmmmm?

Not to mention the 40 minutes styling it with a blow dryer... YES... 40 minutes! I can't spend that much time listening to a roaring engine next to my head each day to keep it looking like that! Hello!!

And the fact I said I just left the chiropractor so I couldn't have my neck bent all around if possible. Today I had an ice pack on my neck as a result of my long time sitting in the "chair".

Then.. as if the blow dryer noise wasn't enough.. they decided to use the vacuum cleaner while I was there... 20 minutes of jet engine noise on top of the smells and blow dryer.

And... it took 2 hours and 5 minutes from start to finish. Isn't that a bit long? Especially since no one else was there but me.

And they did this all to the tune of $50.00. YIKES!!!

When I got home it was said they saw my hair LONG before they saw the car pull in the drive. And for a compliment they said I looked like Sarah Pallin from the back only ... not from the front. ???

I went to meet several people today that probably never knew me with anything but really long hair.. and they never noticed I got my hair cut.

Booo hooo hooo....

Me tinks it will be another 5 years till I do that again!

Bummer!! I just got mine cut yesterday. It was needed!! I can't stand it in my face either.. so I wear it short. I get it cut about every 4 wks.

A tip on how to eliminate some of those SMELLS!! Find a salon that DOES NOT DO NAILS!!

I am so lucky to have one of those!! The nails are done next door and I NEVER step foot into that one! That stuff can fry your brain in minutes!

I hope you can "deal" with your hair until it gets back to the way you like it!!! [bonk]

Oh.. and I forgot the good part.

My kid wanted me to get it cut. He thought it would be "cooler" for me with all the heat we are having here. He even suggested the place where a friend of his worked and wanted me to go try them.

He hasn't seen me yet, but he did call. Even though I tried to act pleased about my hair cut he said he could tell by my voice that I wasn't happy. I did admit the style was more for a younger person.

Tomorrow he will be coming by for supper. Today, on a whim and just for fun and because it was on sale, I bought hair glue that you use to make those long spikes in your hair.

I am going to "do" it up with the glue and make lots of spikes before he gets here.

Then I am going to put on the obnoxious monkey sock PJ's with feet in them that he gave me for Christmas two years ago as a joke.

Maybe next time he will think twice before he tells me what to do with my hair.

Lol..sounds like you know how to get a point across to your son. I HATE going to the beauty shop. Too many sights and sounds. My hair woulda looked like the devil cos when they fired up that vacuum cleaner id have had to leave. And i can NEVER get what i want out of the person doing the cutting. Ever. Just long layers and face framing angles. Not rocket science. I dont think...

Lol..After working in a shop for about 10 years you remind me why I no longer do that kind of work..thank you..lol

Tincup.. I remember those socks!! [lol] That should be a good joke!!

Is your hair long enough to put in a ponytail??

I've never minded getting my hair cut... oh.. except the time the NEW, straight out of beauty school chick cut my hair into a spiked look. I wanted it slightly spikey, but she made it "permanent"...

Sorta... There was NOTHING else I could do with it except grow it out .. and that took awhile. Never will I trust a newbie to do my hair!!

Next time just have a friend or relative give you a 'buzz' in your kitchen chair.

Thats how I do it!!! Course I faced the diminishing supply factor.

Always ready to go,,never worry of a bad hair day,,no bed head. Bennes galore!!!

These four walls I live in dont care,,,nobody else to care either,,,so why try to impress somebody that doesnt exist??

Did I say yet that I AM boring???or-just don-

Oh... TC! It is sooo sad... yet you are soooo funny! Do "dress up" for him... then suggest going out for supper instead!!! LOLOLOLO

Yes, I too see a "butcher" only once in a great long while (March 2009?)! I can relate to the smells...eeewwww!

My graying mop has started inching toward my backside and the only thing I can do with it is to braid it every day to keep it out of my way and off the neck in this heat.

Braiding isn't easy and it doesn't always look "right", but... if someone doesn't like it ... don't look!

just don.... my Dad (and brothers) all have the same "diminishing supply factor." Dad told me a story once... while turning in some "travel rewards," the clerk said it was a choice of a travel alarm or a travel hair dryer. When he chose the dryer the clerk had this confused look in his face until he said "My wife would like it!" [woohoo]

"sign said 'long haired freaky people need not apply... so I tucked my hair up under my hat and I went in to ask him why..." [confused]

Love y'all from the Flower Child

I don't have issues with smells and sounds, but I wonder if a place like Fantastic Sams would be a better choice for you in five years? They take you on a first-come-first-served basis, so they get you in and out as quick as they can. Lol. At least you wouldn't be in there with the funky smells and sounds for very long.

And they are pretty cheap. $16 for my last haircut.

My husband and I have loved my haircuts from there a lot better than cuts I got from the pricey salons.

Wish we could get a picture of you in those jammies with the hair glue! Hint, hint...

You all are too funny! Good idea Mamma Bear!

And wouldn't you know I blew it today! I was cutting grass and time got away from me!! It tends to do that when you don't wear a watch.

Anyhow... as I walked in the door, or shall I say as I dragged my sorry worn out butt inside, I heard him on the speaker phone saying... "Well I am coming up the driveway and will be there in 90 seconds."

Not enough time to do up my hair do... dang it all.

But then I kinda was glad. He leaves tomorrow for the Gulf to assist with the oil disaster, so I really wouldn't want the last time he sees me for a while to be looking like that! He might not come back!!!

BUT.. I do get to see the wife and little grand child next week. Sooooooo, I still can have some fun with her!

[Big Grin]

PS... Just Don, I'll try to remember that. Heck, I'll put a note on my front door that says...

"Please come in and give me a buzz while you're here!"

For some reason I got thinking about Earl today. I dug this up and reread it. I still laugh at how bad that day was.
