I just started my med regimen on Thursday and OH MY LORD I don't know if I can do this! I am taking 1 tsp of Mepron 3x a day, and Zithromycin once a day.
So far I have only taken one dose of the Mepron on Thursday and one on Friday. I can't believe the upset stomach I have. It started an hour or so after I took my first dose on Thursday and hasn't let up since. I was sure to eat a fatty meal with it (even took the Mepron in the middle of the meal) and that didn't seem to make a difference. I actually didn't take it at all today (it's almost 7pm now) and I am still sick to my stomach.
I have read in past threads here that nausea is common with Mepron, and also read somewhere that it should go away in a few days as my body adjusts. Boy do I hope that is true!!!

If you are just starting meds, it's best to use monotherapy until you adjust to the medications. Usually first with Zith and then add in the Mepron a week or two later.
My daughter is on Biaxin and Mepron and that is how she did it.
The Mepron doesn't agree with everyone and some find Malerone a bit more tolerable.
Taking Gravol might help in the meantime, and if you don't like the drowsiness from it, Domperidone helps alot with nausea.

sorry it is tough but,
yes! start really slowly!
one thing at a time, and start with one pill or one teaspoon.
I took lots and lots of ginger, lots of water and
6 x 50 billion probiotics
My mepron was added a month later! at least.
hang in there! be tough! you can do it!

- Ditto to the suggestion for Ginger capsules -- take an hour or two before to get it established in your stomach (and then regularly 2 - 3 x a day). Ginger often helps offset nausea and is used for that with chemotherapy. Capsules are far better than the tea for a therapeutic dose. -

Hi Mamabear, I just started mepron and zith three weeks ago. I started on 1/2 teaspoon twice a day and zith twice a day. I had nausea the first few days but found that it was the zith causing it for me. Eating yogurt has helped me a lot.
Hope things get easier!

Thanks for the responses everyone! There is great advice here, thank you. For others like me who may stumble upon this thread in the future, here is what my LLMD said when I finally got to talk to her today:
She said I could take just the Azithromycin for a few days, then add in the Mepron.
I can split the Zith tablet in half and take half a tab twice a day.
I can consider taking the Zith at night so I can hopefully sleep through the worst of the nausea.
She also reiterated that I should take the Mepron with a fatty meal.
