After getting my dx of chronic lyme, I now think I have an answer as to why the past 10 years I seem to keep a sinus infection. I would take antibiotics, would go away and within a couple weeks it was back. I do believe the sinus infecitons are lyme related.

Have been off my antibiotic for a couple of weeks and bingo another sinus infection. I admit I made a mistake going off the antibiotic but I was getting so sick and seemed to keep indigestion so bad I wanted to take a break during the holidays. Until the sinus came back I felt so much better off the antibiotics and supplements. Well, going back on them now.

Wondering if any of you are bothered with sinus, vision and ear problems.

Tks,

good morning to you phyl6648,

Yes I think I have to agree with you on sinus issues related to lyme. My sinus's swell and my ears hurt, then when the swelling goes down I have an inner ear itch.

My eyes are in and out, glasses don't help much so I don't wear them.
In my oppinion... it's ok to take a break from antibiotics and supplements now and again, let the body try and recover.
Enjoy your Christmas.

My 'chronic sinus infection' disappeared, never to return once my LLMD put me on Diflucan. I was a walking yeast farm. The ENT and Allergist had me on abx for 4 mos prior to my Lyme dx, but never told me about yeast, diet, probiotics, etc. And it all cleared up with 2 mos of Diflucan. It was fungal, not bacterial.

Also, get yourself a bottle of Xlear nasal spray. It's a saline spray made with xylitol, that prevents fungi and bacteria from sticking to your sinus cavity. Works wonders for keeping the nasty stuff out of there.

I started using a neti pot a couple years ago. It's amazing for sinuses and prevents infections. You can get them at a pharmacy or health food store.

I use to get sinus infections but now for the past 8 years I have a constant post nasal drip and then can stop coughing which feels like endlessly less. I'm wondering if this has to do with food allergies too?

No! I truly believe sinus infections are fungal. At least I know it my case they were. My FFC Dr. put me on diflucan because I had systematic yeast (confirmed through blood and stool testing). I was on diflucan for 3 months. I did not have a sinus infection after that for 2 years.

Recently, I got sick. I thought about and my face and my sinuses were killing me, I requested diflucan, and cleared right up. I also use the netti pot for flushing, and steam my face nose with camomile tea, supposed to kill the bacteria and stuff in the nasal passages.

Even the darned MAYO clinic recently released new research that chronic sinus infections are mostly fungal. Jez, I can't believe that one!!! Now, we will see how long it takes for that information to filter down to the ENTs and PCPs.

Sinus infections = yeast, which worsens allergies which makes inflammation worse. I think the lyme and yeast thrive together. That is my story and I am sticking to it!!

My Lyme illness all started with a sinus infection! I kept getting sinus infections until I was finally diagnosed (clinical diagnosis) by my PCP, who is also an Infectious Disease Dr. I was first diagnosed with a sinus infection by an ENT, then diagnosed with Meniers Disease when my hearing started going down. I have learned that for three months I was taking meds (prescribed by my ENT, prednisone, a water pill) that are not good for treating Lyme. I didn't know any better because I didn't even consider that I amy have Lyme, until the fourth ENT told me that Lyme could be causing my ear problems and had me tested. I tested negative and he said that I definately do not have Lyme and thought that it could be viral. My PCP then advised me that the Lyme tests are not accurate and that he uses a clinical diagnosis (based on symptems). I am now starting my fourth week on Doxy and believe that it is working because I am going through some herxes. Just weeks prior to becoming sick, I had a tick on my leg and got infested with chiggers. I also had two very stressfull events just weeks prior.

Neti Pot (all natural) works wonders for my sinus flare-ups. I don't think there's anything better than this:

http://www.amazon.com/NeilMed-NasaFlo-Unbreakable-Premixed-Packets/dp/B000ITHH86

And during the day when you're at work out somewhere where you can't use the neti pot, like lymeinhell says, Xlear is a wonderful product and very effective too (all natural): http://www.amazon.com/Xlear-Nasal-Wash-1-50-Ounces/dp/B000QYNWS2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1296100119&sr=1-1

Walgreens, CVS and Health Food stores sell both of these items. Try it, you'll be glad you did!

I tried the neti pot several times , even added a drop of grapefruit extract to the rinse and every time I use it my ears get so full of pressure. I did exactly as the doc told me but using the neti pot does a number on my ears, which is worse than the sinus problems.

Interestingly enough, when I started drinking mangosteen juice, my sinuses ran for two days, and I didn't even have sinus symptoms.

[bow] [bow]
Thanks a million zillion!

I know Borrelia & Candida party together in our bodies. No one ever suggested fungi were in my sinuses!

Even had a cat scan with radiologist & duck telling me that my sinuses just had some unusual form that makes me uncomfortable. lol. An unusual fungus!

You bet I'm gonna talk with my LLMD about this!

So grateful,
Smile

When mine get so bad that it causes more off balance and ear problems I use Dristian or Afrin, the wal-mart brand and it does help especially with the weird head feeling, off balance and vision. I can't use the decongestant like in sudafed or the one that starts with a P can't spell it.. I use the decongestant that starts with an O.. can't even began to spell either..
