Ok...spring is here, and already I'm afraid to venture out!! I have a green thumb but am truly too stressed to touch any shrubs/plants/bushes and trees in our yard...I avoid grass if at all possible!

I've heard of some using Food grade Diatomaceous Earth on their properties to kill ticks! Has anyone used this?? how often is it applied and do you spread it everywhere??

Getting ready to place my Tick Tubes around property but would like some more protection...or at least some piece of mind!

would love to hear what you all do in regards to tick protection on your property?

I am afraid of even reaching into my vegetable garden to pick a tomato...I get the SHIVER"S thinking a ticks on me!!

**I was bitten in my yard while removing A LOT of bushes and is how I KNOW I have those lil bastards lurking...lol

I would think it would be expensive to use it outside like that .. but I do believe it can work. My niece used it inside their home when they had a flea infestation. They bought a new-used home and the fleas showed up after they moved in.

ME? I don't walk on grass!

It worked for me! As long as you use the right form, it should work.

I was terrified of walking outside before I started using it. Now, while I'm still afraid, I know something is actually killing them.

Good luck!

You're supposed to have insects and arthropods in your lawn.

Killing everything off will lead to an imbalance.

In Silent Spring by Rachel Carson, she mentioned that after farmers began using the new insecticides in the 40's and 50's, they noticed a big increase in the number of ticks.

p.s. Look into using Diatomaceous Earth internally to kill intestinal parasites.

congradulations for using this stuff. Its good, organic and effective.

says it even controls bedbugs.

you will like handling this stuff, feels like talcum powder.

I know the people personally that run this site and sell this stuff by the ton. You would LIKE these people if you could meet them personally.

Was in their office buying some and the whole front lobby area was FULL of boxes awaiting the shipper.

Couldnt see over the pile,,,was amazed they sell that much per week or day or whatever time frame it was.

Just saw on their site that putting this around your yard was a "permanent" solution. Dont know what effects rain and weather have on it,,might want to read up on that part further.

I have a bag I am going to sprinkle around my home. Would think an old flour sifter would work well.

You use this same stuff for internal parasite cleanse also.

Please use a dust mask when treating with this stuff! You do not want it in your lungs!

But this stuff is great and otherwise safe to use.

I am SOLD! Mom's cat infected my disabled cousin after going from yard to bed to join her (Frontline doesn't stop ticks from riding kitty into the house, just from biting HIM!) Great. The ticks are so bad there that the dental assistant had one crawling up her leg after walking on a cut lawn on her lunch break. I would live without grass OR plants if it make me feel safer, and certainly would use this powder-like substance.
I also treat my clothing with permethrin. I nearly died (stage 3 renal failure, Lyme Carditis), so no...absolutely taking NO chances for me. I will get that stuff over to her as soon as she returns from her vacation. [Smile]

I use it, but we also had the lawn and house professionally treated about a week after I bought it because our animals caused an infestation and we freaked. So I'm not sure whether it actually helps or not but I keep spreading it around the yard and patting it on the animals since I bought the stuff...
