My LLMD wrote an RX for Malarone, one -three times a day. My insurance authorized it to be paid.
The two pharmacists at ___,( I would love to name it), will not give me the RX because they said it is prescribing more than the med is usually prescribed for. She had it in her hand, filled, and would not give it to me. She said she wanted to confirm with the Dr. that it was the correct dosage. I had faxed my dr and they had faxed me back confirming the dosage. I am sure my LLMD figured it was easier to confirm with me rather than play phone tag with the Pharmacist. AND it was what the correct amount and dosage, it was clearly written. [bonk]
I always back away a little bit because I don't want to cause a problem for my LLMD. Goodness gracious, us Lymies don't want to cause problems because we don't have real illness and there are no ticks that can cause this sickness....etc.
I can't take the same RX to another one because this one wrote "CONFIRM WITH DR" across it....
Thanks for listening, I feel better. Yes, I am changing pharmacies, I have been with this one for over 10 years..... [group hug]

And tell them in writing why you are leaving!!

I guess they won't take the fax as proof?

I hate pharmacists! They think they are doctors!

Changing pharmacies is the best thing to do. I had one tell me I had to come in each day for one pill of diflucan.

Went to another pharmacy and they gave me the 30 days of it as prescribed.

Another wanted $20 each time I went and would only give out a few at a time.

So each pharmacy is different on how they handle things.

Tell the pharmacist's boss that you are changing pharmacies and why, and that you have been a customer for a long time. Yes, we don't want to cause trouble, but being totally passive is accepting victimization.

The LLMD should have confirmed it with the pharmacy.

I had something similar happen with Zith. They thought the fax from my LLMD had a typo in it, because Zith is usually only taken for a few days.

It is the responsibility of the doctor to let the pharmacist know what dosage he prescribed, even if he has to play phone tag.

The pharmacist was just doing his/her job to ensure your safety and that the correct dose was given. Doctors occasionally write prescriptions wrong and it is the pharmacist job to confirm the prescription.

I love my pharmacy. Never have had a problem with them.

WOW! I strongly feel the need to reply to this thread...You obviously don't understand in the least what a pharmacist does, why they do it or what their lever of education is. First of all, like was said before me, a pharmacist is there to protect you as a patient. Their job isn't simply to count pills and hand them over. If they see something wrong or out of the ordinary it is their legal duty to confirm it directly with the doctor. Changing pharmacys won't make a difference. Any good pharmacist will do the exact same thing. @merrygirl...did you know many pharmacists do have a doctorate degree? just an FYI. Pharmacists are very highly trained, very overworked and carry HUGE responsibility. Please respect your pharmacist. They're only there to help you. (Yes...my wife has lyme and is a pharmacist)

Didn't mean to offend anyone. There were other issues with this Pharmacy that I didn't add in:
When I went to fill this last RX, they couldn't find it - it was under another persons name and different birth date. I happened to be there when the girl put the info down and remembered the incorrect info even after I told her.
I would call and ask if an RX was ready, they would say yes and I would go up only to find it not ready or they were our of the meds.
Because of cut backs they were down in personnel to just two people, always a long line. I could feel for them, but sometimes the waiting was too painful for me.
I guess I will be more careful when I post, or toughen up. Some days I just get frustrated and want to vent. i had a bad day when I went to get the meds for the third time, because the assistant kept telling me it was ready. Each time I had to wait behind 10 or more people to be told it couldn't be picked up. Maybe if I had been told before I waited in line, I would have been more understanding.
Ciao

It is a frustrating situation, but many of them are just trying to do their jobs. Maybe you could find another store and start fresh. With the amount of script I am on, they would be fighting for my business!

I don't know where you are in CA, or if there are any in your area, but I use Medicine Shoppe.

Completely different from the big chains.
Personal treatment and so far from the usual of ones like Walgrens, etc.

Never a problem or lost 'scripts. They also call and get my refills. I never have to call the doctors.

I agree fully with MLandry7.It is the LLMD's fault if they are too lazy to answer the pharmacist. I'm NOT saying yours truly is, but it's just a general point.

People on this thread are defending what pharmacists do in general. This post has to do with specific failings of a particular pharmacy. Pharmacies vary just like all businesses.

I think this person had a legitimate gripe.
