Trevor Bayne was admitted to Carolinas Medical Center-University in Charlotte, NC, on Sunday morning after returning home from the Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway.

According to a Roush Fenway Racing team spokesman Corey Wynn, Bayne's illness has not been diagnosed. But the 20-year-old winner of this year's Daytona 500 had tweeted earlier: ``Not sure if its a spider bite or a tick bite . . . But either way I'm in a hospital bed with a needle in my arm! #nobueno''.

Bayne began exhibiting symptoms Tuesday. On Friday, he was taken to the infield care center at Texas Motor Speedway, where he was administered antibiotics.

Then, Saturday night, he went to the emergency room when the Roush plane returned to Charlotte, and he was admitted to the hospital.

Bayne finished 17th in the Samsung 500 on Saturday night, matching his Sprint Cup debut at Texas Motor Speedway last November. It was Bayne's best finish since he won the Daytona 500 in February in only his second career Cup start.

Oh no. I hope this doesn't end his career. If he will get adequate treatment, he'll be OK .. but ....

whatever it is it looks like they caught it early. hopefully he'll be alright, i don't think we need to worry too much.

I was worried about cognitive problems from the lyme.

I'm sure he'll be alright since he got such quick treatment. Hope he feels better real soon.

But I have to wonder...would a regular non-celebrity have gotten such quick treatment and hospitalized? Probably not.

Definitely would not have been hospitalized.

My Dad was hospitalized for several days from a tick bite. This was about 11 years ago.

He almost died. He had RMSF. Since he has been educated about LD, he now wonders if all of his problems now are not related to that tick bite.

That's true. My mom had RMSF when I was about 10 yrs old. I do believe she ended up chronic with RMSF and/or lyme. She was also hospitalized. This was back in the early 60's and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. She had high fever and a rash.

Being in Texas, RMSF was really not on their radar screen.

He'll only get well if they treat long enough and treat co-infections. And the chances of that are about zero.
