I have just been diagnosed with Bartonella, but have been infected for 14 years. One of my worst symptoms is pain in my legs, shins, and feet. It has been the symptom I have had for the entire time I have been infected.
I use menthol rub on them, and it helps a little. I keep riding that Bart loves the long bones, but what does that mean? Why do my legs hurt so bad? Does anyone know what is happening when the bart makes you hurt like this?

Hi, I have the same type of pain; starts in my hip and radiates down through my thigh bones. Sometimes it feels like someone is tearing the flesh from my bones. Other time it feels like someone driving nails into my bones and yet other times it feels like my bones are being shocked with a cattle prod. It's awful. I never tested pos for Bart or lyme but I did for Ehrlichiosis. Been treated with Rifampin for the Bart and herxed a bit the first week. Helped with the leg bone pain but other Lyme symptoms came back so LLMD put me back on Flagyl... Now the hip/bone pain has gotten worse. If the Bart is responsible for the worst symptoms, maybe talk to your doc about rifampin? Also, "Tiger Balm" seems to dull the pain more than any other ointment I've tried--get the stuff in a jar though, not the stuff in a tube. Hope this helps, JLM in upstate NY

I am on rifampin, started a few weeks ago. It was the worst herx I have ever experienced!! I wanted to die. I am also on Flagyl, and Bicillin injections. I know your pain. Being shocked with a cattle prod is a great explanation. I will try Tiger Balm. I just realized I put this in General, I will try to move it to Medical.
