I thought I read somewhere that a tick has a 50/50 chance of carrying a TBI.
Is this true? What are the odds?

I think pretty much everything is a 50/50 chance. Either yes or no.
If talking about the percentage of infected ticks found during particular collection efforts:
In some places, that is higher. I've seen some counts as 80% of captured ticks to be infected. -

Each area of the country is different. My LLMD told me that in the NE, the rate is about 85% chance. In the Midwest it's more like 10-20%.

- I wonder for all the tick collections that have been done in various states (and it's not as many as we might think), how many follow the same collection & testing procedures?
I know in my state, the methods were not really up to par for the best collection of data. -
