Today I thought I'd share some of my knowledge, been a bodybuilder for over 10 years so I know a thing or two about staying healthy and keeping a lean body. No I've never used steroids and always trained naturally. I must say that it's no easy task even for a person that's been healthy all his life to fight a disease such as lyme. Some of this stuff is already known I know, but I broke it down in a way that you understand the benefits.

Do yourself a favor and buy a single serve blender!!!

The benefits from these blenders is amazing. To be able to just throw the cup in the dishwasher and have another ready for later makes it so economical. Many of these single serve blender packages come with 3 to 6 cups. Regular blenders are good, but let's be honest with ourselves, they are pain in the ass to clean. Especially with Lyme disease, regular blenders are just not realistic, especially people with arthritis like me. I make vegetable drinks 2-3 times a day, it would be to clunky and messy to use a standard blender that many times a day. With single serve you can throw your one dirty cup in the dishwasher and go on to the next backup cup you have.

There's nothing like whole foods such as vegetables and fruits. I don't care what anyone says, they are more beneficial than vitamins. Remember vitamins are artificial, while vegetables and fruits are natural. Don't get me wrong Vitamins can help lyme, no doubt, I still take a multivitamin, vitamin D, tumerric and fish oil. But they're not absorbed as much as food. That's why many people say take vitamins with food.

I seen a lot of people on here with not just Lyme problems. I'm talking about diabetes, cholesterol, overweight, and constipation. Vitamins will not fight these problems. But using natural vegetables and fruits will. If you do your research or even if you've been watching shows such as Dr. Oz, you know the benefits. When you consume fruits and vegetables, you are also getting loads of fiber. Which helps many things, keeps cholesterol down and prevents constipation, especially if you're on a Candida diet.

I tried the Candida diet once for a month and got backed up, even if I took fiber supplement. It just not reasonable, you have to have some sort of natural carbs in your diet. Remember what Dr. Burrascano said, complex carbs not simple carbs.

And if you do buy a single serve blender. I highly suggest just using mainly vegetables and ones with lower carbs/sugar, use fruit very sparingly. Don't be making high sugar fruits smoothies. And whatever you do don't buy a juicer. Juicers take 3x the vegetables and fruits to make a drink. Which means more sugar, which we all know is bad for Lyme and diabetes. That's why a lot of people say Apple juice is bad, because they use a lot of apples to make one jug. Lots of sugar in apple juice.

Usually when I make a single serving, I usually take frozen vegetables such as baby spinach, broccoli, and then fill it up with water so it liquefies and makes it easy to drink. There's so many antioxidants and fiber in just one drink. And I have heard that broccoli has some antibacterial compounds. To get more benefit you can do 3 to 4 vegetables. In the morning I'll throw a few slices of apple in with the baby spinach and broccoli, taste so good. By the way baby spinach taste so much better than regular spinach.

Just being able to use so many vegetables and drink it within a few minutes is so beneficial. We all know hard how hard it is to eat a full plate of vegetables and of different sorts too. I challenge you to eat three or four different vegetables on one plate with your protein source: chicken, turkey, fish etc... It's a huge challenge!!! When I have the dinner I usually have my protein source and one or two vegetables.

Many believe vitamin C is a big way to fight Lyme. Now I've read some negatives about it if you take it in the pill form. Tom Grier has said that it could possibly turn your body to more than an acidic state, which some say may help the bacteria grow. But if you eat green vegetables with lots of vitamin C such as broccoli and spinach, it's actually turning your body to more of an alkaline state. Which actually helps the antibiotics penetrate better.

I recommend getting the single serve blender Ninja Pulse BL204. Seems that the best reviews compared all the single serve blenders. I had a magic bullet, work good for year or so but then the plastic gear broke and the cups do leak when blending, gasket just does not seal good. The Ninja Pulse BL204 has 700 watts of power which helps you blend up the frozen vegetables better to liquid. Plus the cups don't leak like a magic bullet cups. Only $80 at Amazon or Kmart. And I do recommend buying frozen vegetables so they last longer in your kitchen.

Anyways I hope this helps some of you there looking to fight this disease even harder!!!

Remember what Brooke Landau said, antibiotics are just the bullets, we need much more to help fight this disease.

Glad you are happy with your new blender.

Juicing - with all the pulp - can be excellent.

For celery, if the strings are pulled off ahead and cut smaller, that helps. Celery and peeled cucumber really stretch out the carrots and beets, too, so less of those can be used.

For everyone, with any blender, kitchen or home appliance that makes noise - whatever the size (some of the smaller appliances are the worst offenders to ear nerves):

ALWAYS WEAR EAR PLUGS, or protective ear muffs rated to a certain decibel code.

It also helps to put the appliance on a heavy silicone pot holder or trivet - or a wood cutting board (as long as there is room for the motor to breathe). This helps absorb some of the sound and vibration.

Even with hearing protection, when safely possible, back away from the machine as sound will still travel through bones and through the nose. Distance helps if you don't have to hold the lid on the blender, etc.

Why this caution? Why does this matter?

Because ears do so much for us, even beyond hearing and when the ears get assaulted, that can ruin so much about how our bodies work - and cause much pain and illness.

Lyme - and many kinds of Rx, including antibiotics - often make a person much more susceptible to hearing damage. Much more.

Even with a hairdryer or a vacuum, earplugs are absolutely required to help protect your ears (and, really, everyone should do this whether lyme or Rx or not).

Earplugs should come with all hairdryers, vacuums, etc. You might keep a pair of gardeners' ear protective muffs right alongside the vacuum or the food processor.

Details on how to find the best hearing protection:

http://beautyandbedlam.com/mason-jar-blender/

Some of have been using mason jars on their blenders for a long time, it's a good trick, but I highly suggest don't doing it. The mason jars aren't as thick glass as the standard glass jug that comes with with the blender.

The mason jar so much as cracks, from let's say putting an ice cube in it or a solid vegetable, the glass could shatter and go flying everywhere, possibly your eyes. Plastic cups that come with these new age single serve blenders are thick(especially the ninja pulse), if something goes wrong they would just crack, not shatter like glass.

And thanks to Keebler for the extra input.

By the way I would love to hear some good tips on what vegetables are good to help fight Lyme and why.

Great safety point that I might not have considered.

As for what veggies - I think deep colors and variety are key. There are dozens of veggies that most of us have never even tried.

It's not good to have the same things day in and day out. And, with all the variety, we can expand our taste experiences.

Make a date with someone in the produce department of an organic food store. Get to know the community coordinators for all area farmers' markets - and get to know the farmers.

If there are "juice classes" steer clear of those that want to make all fruity or sweet drinks in quantities that would work for an army. But a "juice class" by a health professional should have the right balance.

Super size is not a good idea for anything. Keep it real.

HEMP PROTEIN POWDER is excellent to add.

CHIA SEEDS, too ? (I've just not explored those, though.)

Gee, why haven't I ever thought of using frozen vegetables?

Do you let them thaw out a bit??

TuTu,

You asked: "Do you let them thaw out a bit?"

Not if you have liquid in the blender cup to begin with, just be sure they aren't in a big ice cube.

If you want the drink less like an "icey" drink, just run under running water for a bit, in a colander.

Might be a good idea to give them a quick rinse, anyway. But SPINACH can get waterlogged and need to be squeezed, perhaps, depending upon the desired finished consistency. Put spinach in last since it is more tender. Kale should be early on, as it's tough.

Buying frozen veggies?

Be sure the package is all "loose" inside, not blocks of ice as that often indicates the contents have been thawed a bit and refrozen.

An insulated carrier with blue ice is good to take with you.

Don't have to depending on the blender.

Just like Keebler said, the water help liquefies the frozen vegetables. A powerful blender like the 700 watt ninja pulse will liquefy faster than the 250 watt magic bullet. Magic bullet you'll to wait a little longer blending. Microwaving can speed things up, but I don't suggest doing that. I don't suggest microwaving things unless you really have to.

I once heard if you microwave water and you pour it on plants, it will kill the plants. I don't know how true the statement is, heard it on some health talk radio show(think Duke & Doctor or Coast Coast AM on 800am), but I take it as a precaution anyways and microwave sparingly.

I keep my veggies in the freezer and fruits in the refrigerator.

Can really extend the life of your vegetables and fruits which overall saves you a lot of money in the long run.

Interesting.

Keebler... no need for blue ice here. My grocery store is barely a mile away! [Smile]

The berries (blue berries, strawberries, raspberries, etc) are higher in antioxidants and not as sweet as some fruits.

We use frozen blue berries and milk in the blender to make blueberry milk shakes. Or use strawberries. (not exactly Lyme / candida friendly) We usually don't add any sugar or very little.

Lactose which is in milk is sugar. If you check on back of the package of the blueberries it says 15 g sugar. Strawberries on the other hand aren't too bad, 7grams.

But if you add all these together, that's quite a bit of sugar. Do you have a glass of orange juice every day too? Think about it.

If you want to do milkshakes, I would suggest going with unsweetned original almond milk with some fruits which are low in sugar.

I don't know what stage Lyme disease you're in. But if you are disabled and not doing any cardio, there's no way for your body to burn sugar off. This is how many people become diabetic.

I would stick to shakes that consist of vegetables which is more alkaline, sweeten it occasionally with a few slices of one low sugar fruit.

Don't give into your taste buds, this is the main problem why so many Americans are in bad health because they let their taste buds guide them.

You'll get plenty of antioxidants from vegetables such as baby spinach, broccoli etc....

For "milky" drinks, go for some of the SOFTER NUTS like walnuts, pecans or macadamia . . .

rinse . . . and blend them to the max in a bit of water first. Then add other ingredients.

Brazil nuts may work but best if you crush them a bit first.

Almonds and hazelnuts are likely too hard for most regular blenders other than Blendtec, Vitamix or similar.

You can try soaking almonds overnight in fridge. RINSE well. That will soften them - some.

I like my new Cuisinart SmartPower blender. It has 4 single serve cups, a smaller chopping cup and a larger blender cup (but still smaller than most regular blenders. The bottom part with the blades unscrews and fits every vessel, so it's very interchangeable. Plus dishwasher safe, (of course!)

I'll have to try this veggie and fruit idea. Thanks!

I've heard some problems with that Cuisinart , read some Amazon reviews of leaks, overheats, breaks...

I mean there's no product that is 100% percent perfect, but I would say the ninja pulse is pretty close to it. Overall solid quality from my experience. It's only $10 more than the Cuisinart. Cuisinart is 300 watts while the ninja pulse is 700. overall better for blending frozen vegetables or ice for smoothies

If the vegetables get caught up in the top of the cup while blending. Sometimes taking it off and shaken it up will help. Or just waiting longer, it eventually blends and grabs the vegetables up top.

And for washing, two drops of dishwasher soap with a half cup water and blend it up, this came from the directions in the box. I still put the cups in the dishwasher afterwards just to make sure a good clean.

Since this post resurfaced, I like to talk about I show I just watched on TV. It is about this unorthodox treatment a doctor named Keith Block used to help put cancer into remission for a older woman.

I can't remember the name of the show, it was "unexplained mysteries" or "unexplained methods." Anyways Dr. Keith Block used both conventional medicine (kemo radiation) and a healthy diet that consisted of herbs and vegetables to help put older woman's cancer into remission. She had a cancerous tumor in her brain, lung cancer, and other cancer throughout her body. Doctors gave her only a few must live, yet this Dr. Block helped her put the cancer in remission.

If anyone saw the show please post. The other part of the show talk about a osteopath that use magnets to help cure a young boy's back pain. Maybe the show is on YouTube.

Point is that both conventional medicine and holistic medicine used together is the best treatment for whatever disease you have. It said because the conventional doctors that predicted this woman's fate, still say that it was just the conventional radiation treatment that helped her survive and that it was a miracle. I find it ridiculous that some doctors still believe that diet doesn't matter when treating cancer or any disease.

Here's an article about the Doctor http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0820/is_n225/ai_18230837/

While I don't believe in his strict diet to cut out meat, I do believe in his emphasis on the power of herbs and vegetables. Vitamins too!

You guys are all wearing hearing protection, right?

In just 90 seconds, damage can happen but it may not show up until later. Stay safe.
